HELP: Magicka DK

Snowballer23
Hi all guys,
I went back to play after a year and a half with my magicka DK and i really need your help.

Many things have changed and I can't find a setup that could work with magDK.

I'm trying to run with 5 heavy Tavas or Seducer and 5 Sun, i got to complete monster set but i can't do much, my sustain sucks and my resources regen sucks.

In duels and in open pvp i can't do much like I did in the past.

I got 225 CP what build could i try to run to to be more effective?

Could i run S&b/S&b as always or destro/resto are more viable?

Thanks in advance and sry for my bad english.

I find that I lack damage with tavas (and I hate having to keep shuffle up on a mag build) but your sustain would come from ults. If you want to run tavas, then I suggest going vamp and running the bats. You'll gave high up time and resource regen dropping that ult whenever it is up. Battle roar functions on base ult cost, do you get resources for a 200 ult cost for 158 ult points.

I also run a resto in heavy attack resource return. It's significant. Personally, healing ward and the resource return is better than double s&b with igneous shield and db.

Definitely keep sun, or try burning spell weave. More cp will be a huge boon for regen, and heavy makes things easier for mDK

Magicka DKs, DPS, at least from what ive seen heavily focus on DoTs, so its mostly used the Ardent Flame skill lines, at least from what ive seen, I'm giving a try to DPS but its going to take a while since I'm heavily based around tanking, so I need to level a new toon

mDK is the worst spec in PvP right now.

And you only have 225 CPs, which will make it even harder.

I suggest you construct a sustain build in light armor and play in the no CP campaign. Otherwise you're in for way too much frustration. Something like Lich plus Sun or spinners and the Engine guardian monster set. Run resto off bar and use shields.

I've been having more fun this patch than I have in a long time. I'm using:

5 trainee (arcane jewelry, reinforced chest, impen shield on front bar, powered resto back bar)
5 sun (sharpened 1 hand weapon, 4 impen body pieces)
2 skoria (medium infused helm, light impen shoulder)

Front bar: talons, embers/engulfing, whip, fossilize, deep breath/wings, meteor
Back bar: dampen, healing ward, mist, structured entropy, volatile armor, bats

If you wanted to run duel wield, you could swap the trainee shield for a sharpened trainee sword.

Since we have stamina from our trainee set, we don't need tri stat food anymore. I've been running the +max mag, +max recovery food and experimenting with damage-oriented mundus stones to see which one I like.

I haven't tested grothdar yet. I heard that's a good set to replace skoria with.

I'm finding success with Kags / Sun / Skoria.

The secret is a defending resto back bar. Those resto heavys really feed you when youre in heavy.

Nice setup, I saw that trainee set is very good, but where can i find trainee jewelry, chest, shield and 1hand with these traits?

    So are u running 5L 1H 1 M right?

@Snowballer23 yes, I'm running 5L-1-1. You can get the trainee set from the starter islands. Just wait until your character is cp160 to do the quests. You get the impen shield from the sky shroud burrow quest on bleak rock. The sharpened sword from freeing Jakarn on stros mkai. The reinforced heavy chest from doing the main quest on stros mkai to steal the documents. The powered resto from helping the high elf at the dwemer ruins on stros mkai. The items are guaranteed named items that are the quest rewards. E.g., Jakarns machete of the trainee.

Jewelry is a little harder to come by. It only shows up in chests on the starter islands. So what I did was hit up a bunch of guild traders and bought all the treasure maps I could find for stros mkai, bleakrock, bal foyen, kharnis roost, and behtnik. They cost me about 1K each and it took about 20 maps or so to find a complete set of blue arcane jewelry. I would have preferred purple, but the only purple I found in 20 maps was a healthy necklace. Blue has been working out just fine so far.

Go to Azuras. Run something like Bloodspawn + Seducer + a damage set. Learn to sustain where you aren't competing with people with twice the CP.

I'm going broke trying out all the new sets; we have some new fun toys to play with. We are starting to see more destro DPS oriented mDKs running around but I still like tanky S&B. Grothdarr was a big Christmas present to S&B mDKs.

So far, with the expense of mDK skills, the cost reduction from Seducer has outweighed any of the other resource return sets. I haven't tried Lich yet; I need to farm the jewelry.

@Kutsuu lol. I have a few treasure maps left. Trying to create demand for the set so I can drive the price of the maps up

You should search YouTube for mDK builds for the latest patch. There are a few ideas on there. It's definitely a more challenging way to play, but can be super fun if you don't mind dying sometimes.

Grothdarr is great if you can lock people down close to you, but skoria has range and can be better burst. Also, you could check out Infernal Guardian for the mortars...

I run 5 tava 5 Sun and 2 blood and I like it a lot. i think the low cp is gonna make mdk a pain to play. Like some people suggested.. Go into non-CP PvP perhaps? But anyways I'd go with the trainee build suggestions made to you here. I'd be running trainee of i wouldn't swapped from ps4-na to PC-EU

Just been using it to tank for a 8 man emp group. Very solid. Not sure how it will translate to solo though

Yeh, i wondered how youd solo with it. I want black rose with undaunted passives grothdar and burning spellweave. Max mag mag recov healthfood . I think that will be a great build once i have the spellweave jewels and snbs

Your CP is a bit low so you will struggle with which every build you choose to play with when fighting against higher cp players. I run a balance of sustain and damage.

My personal set up is rattlecage, amberplasm, and bloodspawn. Bloodspawn on a dragon knight is insanely good. It give great sustain due to the battle roar passive. I recommend using it. It will so give you the resistance which you lack due to having low cp. Your damage will be significantly lower than max cp players but there is strength in numbers. Team up with other players.

Here is my set up in action. CP makes a huge difference.
