random group invites when in middle of nowhere

What happened here?

So yesterday I was going around exploring now I have unlocked cadwells silver. I was in the middle of nowhere and up pops a group invite from a player I don’t know.

I looked around in game to see if someone was nearby as I ve had that a few times but I was alone and hadn’t seen anyone for 10 minutes.

I decline the group.

It then pops up again so I accept this time to see whats going on.

Im then in a group of 4, other group members nowhere to be seen and looks like preparing to do a dungeon.

I never instigated LFG, ive ever done one proper one at the weekend. Does group finder hunt down player types even if youre just questing/exploring?

All very strange.

Are you in some guild? It might be that someone wanted to travel to you, but misclicked "invite to group".

It may have been someone from a guild you're in that wants to port to your location.

From the guild roster they can choose to port to player, but I have had it happen that they send a group invite instead (option is close enough for a mistake/misclick).

well I did think that which is why I accepted.

But then no-one teleported and I could see their damage bars going up and down so were in activity somewhere.

    That is odd.

As others have mentioned, I have accidentally invited people to group when trying to port to them. Fortunately I've never accidentally kicked someone from the guild. That's my worst nightmare!

sorry to bring this up again.

Happened again last night. Another random player invite to group. No-one around. I decline.

30 secs later another invite pops up, same player. which I decline again.

I think next time im going to accept and ask how I was targeted for group to see if its the system doing it or if its a guildie

Probably just someone from a guild.. or someone scanning the area and needing help for something.. I've seen the same thing with guild invites, so I suspect that some people have a way to see who is in the same zone as themselves

well even if they would use "port to player", they would teleport not directly to you, but to the nearest wayshrine, which might be out of your line of sight
