Im really confused on this issue becuase i see alot of the same builds. The same style of gameplay that is being used over and over again. Rather its open world build, a group build or a duelist build. Any thoughts ?

It doesn't matter how good your build is actually . Even if you play really good with a cancer build , you will still get called ''noob'' because you are playing a cancer build . Just play what you want and get yourself ready for hate whispers .

I don't mind players using fotm sets, builds etc... it's their choice and if they wanna go that way cool.

I just build to my playstyle, I would perform far worse trying to force myself into someone else's build.

Like everyone else ill take ideas, test em out and incorporate if I like it, that's why we're on a forum in the first place.

To me a good player is one that accomplishes their goals. If it's to be that immortal tank, awesome. That ninja ganker, sweet. That shield stacking sorc of old, all the more power to ya.

A bad player... well... they just kinda die

someone whom has been able to adapt their build and playstyle to what it is they enjoy from pvp...

burst builds and tactics for those solo assassin types, good team/support build and communication for those whom enjoy working as a team, immortal builds for those whom like daring groups of opposing players to kill them (by far - the most amusing sight in the game)...

much like life - it's the happy folks whom are the most successful...

all that aside - i wish we could see our kill/death ratio (kind of like COD)...personally - that's how I would judge it...

I came across two nightblades yesterday at a resource while I was on my disgusting malubeth blazing shield templar. After killing them both, one messages me, and I'm like "oh great, here we go...". He says "Good fight :)", then we talked about builds for the next 15 minutes.

That is my definition of a good player.

Exactly this. People who are not salty, and instead agry whisping to you they say good fight, maybe ask for some more fights to figure out how to beat you etc. I have lot of people of other aliances in my fried list, that i met by killing them or dying to them, and indstead of insults we engaged conversation.
If good player dies to someone, he dont blame "cancer build that enemy player has" or "cheesy tactic he used" - good player learn from that loss and ask himself: "What i did wrong i lost and how can i avoid dying next time".

Bad player thinks he never do mistakes and when he dies(even if he outnumber opponent) and enemy player always used some dirty tricks to beat him/his group. Like this:

Obviously it's who can spam rapid regen the most  but seriously I don't know anymore. I used to feel excited in pvp when I'd run into single players wrecking groups, now it's the same builds running around.

But I will agree that it's great when a player doesn't get super salty and when they lead groups that actually make progress in a campaign rather than AP farm resources all day.

A good player is someone who masters their role or multiple roles.

Tank: get hit hard and survive, is the decoy and usually the last one to survive in a fight.

Dps: want to kill enemies and must switch between defense and offense in a fight.

Healer: Heals teammates and won't let them die, supports them and gives them multiple buffs.

Ganker: kills enemies instantly and remains unseen, if caught, uses various skills to escape.

A good AvA player is someone who directly or indirectly supports the goal of the campaign by teaching newbies, leading attacks, sieging with the zerg, cutting support routes, burning tents, reviving and so on. He is patient and knows that mostly it was not the stupidity of the others that led to failure but missing preparation, communication and more often than not just the lack of numbers.

Bad AvA players are those that do PvP. Like duelling or AP farming. Sometimes the emperor is the worst player in the whole campaign, especially when he doesn't bother to defend his keeps or assist the other groups until the very last ring keep is about to be taken.

Good: You and people you admire.
    Bad: Everyone else.

No seriously though, good players have developed considerable knowledge and skills within the game to allow them to creatively adapt and evolve their builds and game play to address the ever changing PVP environment. A lot of what is considered player skill is really just a very detailed understanding of how the game engine functions and how certain skills and abilities function within that system, and then having practiced and developed the muscle memory through repetition in order to take advantage of that knowledge.

Good players are usually good because they have considerable experience across many different games, and have fully developed many different strategies or techniques which they then adapt and apply to new gaming environments. Sometimes they may have only really invested into one game but have invested enough time and at the same time made cognitive leaps that often elude other players.

Sometimes the popular steamers that set the "meta" are not significantly better than the other top players, they are just a personality with a microphone and recording equipment. Sometimes they are running basically the same build you are but are simply executing it better, or have some slight tweak's that give them that extra 1% needed to excel.

For PVP the easiest way to improve your game play is to improve your understanding of the game and game play there in by investing time into the game as well as exploring styles of play that are new to you. It is ultimately a game of strategy and chance, the better you understand what is available to your opponent and identify what they are actually using, the better you will be able to develop a counter and adapt your own strategy. Read about what people are doing, watch video's on what people are doing and adapt.

Sometimes you may find that your design will not work with your current setup or gear, but that given more CP, different gear, different skills unlocked/morphed that it may work. Sometimes you may find there is an inherent flaw in your setup and it will always fail. Sometimes you may find that your design will totally work you just need to tweak some stats or change a skill.

The thing to remember is PVP is not PVE, the environment is not static. Things are going to change, different play styles will rise and fall, what you randomly encounter will change.(Edit: by change I mean quickly, everything changes with patches, PVP can change overnight with the release of a new "meta" video) Good players get to a point where they have tried and developed many different setups and strategies, this plus the previously mentioned depth of game knowledge and understanding, allows them to adapt quicker to the ever changing environment of PVP.

To me, a good player is not someone with a good build, but someone who can master his build.
A good player is very tanky, while still being able to deal lethal damage. A good player can also handle more than 1 player and a good player is very good at managing his ressources.
    Auri-El is my lord,

I recently began experimenting with a "heal-tank" templar build that mitigates as much damage as possible through a combination of raw physical and spell resist and Undeath from the Vampire skill line. One of the major sets I use is the Pariah set along with Reactive in PvP. I know that a lot of people would call it a waste of my gear slots but Undeath and Pariah stack together so beautifully in my experiences playing with them in the last few days. I've stood up to 2 magicka nightblades in one battle focusing me down hard together, a Velidreth stamina PvP ganking nightblade and a sword and board Dragonknight.

I might slap with a wet noodle but I can stand up to a whole hell of a lot of damage once I reach that 50% hp "sweet spot." If I'm alive and kicking, I'm healing my allies around me and a healer is a pretty damn good decoy since I'm a teams life support. My build accomplishes what I want it to accomplish, tanky supportive healing.

Are there any good players left in PvP these days? I thought the RNG instant killing gear proc stamina meta, chased them all away from the game? Only youtubes videos I've been seeing lately. Are ones from scrubs that are so excited they can kill people by light attacking and roll dodging. The skill floor and ceiling has never be so low in this game.

Even the shield stacking sorc had to work to get his/her kills Stamina kills nowaday ("HAHAHA, Look at that noob. I completely owned him." As his veldreth, red mountain, and viper's gear procs happens.) Then that same dude gets killed by RD then comes on forums and cry bloodly murder, "Nurfs most happen". Noth said.

Forget all that. To you, OP the answer is simple.

    Do you have max cp?
Do you try to target players without cp cap?
Are you rich in game for full legendaries?
Are you lucky in game for BIS drops?
and lastly, do you have slightly above average pvp experience in mmos.

Meet those criteria and you are good to go.

I try to follow the forum postings when I get the chance. As someone who doesn't pvp often, it's my understanding that you have to avoid the following to be a good player.

    - do not use Malubeth, Black Rose, Veledrith, Viper gear sets
    - do not use Radiant Destruction... ever
    - do not use Breath of Life... ever
    - probably best to just not play a Templar... ever
    - do not dodge roll more than once per combat situation
    - do not streak away, dark cloak or use terrain to avoid a bad situation
    - do not bring any friends with you to combat, even if you don't initiate that combat
    - do not gank. you will be called a bad player. do not get ganked. you will be called a bad player
    - do not interrupt a duel, even if those duelers are in the most inappropriate location
    - do not get involved in any fight between the other 2 alliances. you will be ganging up even if it's to your benefit to engage in that combat

Probably a whole lot more that I'm missing. I'm in the process of building a spreadsheet I can use while in pvp to see if I'm doing it the right way. I just need a way to signal my opponents to not destroy me while I consult this spreadsheet before every encounter.
