What is the best gear for a wood elf NB that focuses on ganking? And also what traits for each peice of gear? Thank you

You don't need no stinkin' gear on an NB.. they have enough passives and built in damage / tools as-is

There are lots of options. Are you running bow/2h? dw/2h? dw/bow?

    Hundings Rage
    Clever Alch
    Marksman
    Hawkseye
    Morag Tong
    Molag Kena
    Leki (2pc gives wpn dmg)
    Agility

Typically most gankers go full divines to boost either the shadow or warrior mundus. Some still run the old infused on the large pieces divines on the small. Don't get caught though cause running all divines/infused makes you squishy as hell now a days.

Sharpened on the weapons is still best I believe.

There are a ton of different options for ganking setups now, just depends on how you want to gank.

What would you recommend running if you don't have any monster sets or maelstrom weapons? Bow/2h or bow/dw? Gank mostly from distance and then gap close or is there a better approach to gank?

    Lol

Topic: Try 5x marksman (3x jewerly + 2 armor) + 5x clever alchemist (5 armor) then weapons of your choosing.

Gives great burst with alchemist proc when you drink a pot (and 5% more damage on bow skills) on top of reduced cost on stamina skills thanks to the 5 piece marksman :)

Marksman you can buy for gold from people/guildstores or get by earning ap (reward mails), alchemist is crafted.

As much as this is good setup actually ganking with bow skills is not as good as relying on bow heavy attack, than switching to 2h (or dw) and going in with melee.
Fully charge heavy+surprise can often kill people. And if you purely bow and relying on snipes its easier to avoid your dmg.

But this setup is ideal if your idea is to stay in distance and just snipe

That is why I took Snipe off my bar and went with Poison Injection weave w/ LA. I have gotten targets to 60% health very quickly with Marksman/Chemist setup. I also run Poisons on the bow. It is REALLY effective with the gear.

You got quite a few options.

    4 Clever Alchemist on body
    3 Hundings on body
1 Clever Alchemist on bow bar
    2 Hundings on DW bar
    3 Agility jewelry

    Alternative choice:

    3 Viper's Sting jewelry.
    2 Viper's Sting armor.
    2 Maelstrom daggers OR 1 Maelstrom 2H
    4 Clever alchemist armor.
    1 Clever alchemist bow
    1 piece Molag Kena

Pop a pot on bow bar, swap to Hundings / Viper's Sting, huge weapon damage guaranteed.

Possibly Warrior or Shadow mundus, full Divines, or Infused on large pieces (chest, legs and helm).

These are mostly geared toward melee ganking, you got some ranged flavor (but ranged is for the weak!)

If you are running melee ganking, others could give you better advice. Of you are bow ganking, you either need to do heavy attack>poison inject, then see how they react OR you can zerg surf and tag people in combat. The main reason to try the latter is that they hear battle drums if you fire off snipe while they aren't in combat, and most will dodge roll and go on alert.

Snipe while they're in combat, however, can have deadly consequences :)

As 2h/bow i would go with 4 achemist on body, alchemist bow, 1 kena, 2 leki on body and melstrom 2h.
Pop all your bufs, use fully charge heavy attack with bow and as soon as you release switch to 2h and if you are close to enemy use surprise, if not than ambush. Player will take huge dmg and will be stun and you can continue with ulti, surprise or executioner

I run 5 hundings 5 marksman and kena helm on my NB, who is also a wood elf. I come out to 3.3k wep damage and 2.1k regen buffed with relentless focus/rally ofc and orzogas stam/health food. Marksman is a great placeholder set if you cant afford the robust agility pieces.

On my NB Shiivs ive been running 5x skirmisher all well fitted, 3x agility, 1 kena 1 bloodspawn and malestrom 2h/bow.

Seems to work well i enjoy hitting large groups to kill one and then lead them on a merry chase.

Skirmisher and well fitted allows an excellent damage and crit boost from dodgroll with massive reduced dodge cost.

I very often get away with a doderoll into cloak and gank. And escape as needed or roll around buffing my damage and repeat... cloack>heavy>surprise>incap or fear surp incap.

    And trollroll.

This works very very well for bow heavy attack -> swap ambush/surprise/incap.

Snipe is mostly useless since it's so slow.

The 5% reduced stam cost, 2x stam regen + 1x weapdmg bonuses are really good even for a melee ganker. Also you have alchemist to buff yourself further.

This setup is lethal without using snipe and sitting only at distance, you get great sustain and can rock shadow mundus/warrior mundus and max food while still maintaining cheaper costs and alot of regen. :)
