Why the hype on Spell Damage glyph?

Could someone explain to me, what i am missing here?

I see alot of people in chat, going for this enchant on their weapon. Including some streamers etc. But when i look at the numbers, i just dont get it.

The spell power / weapon power glyph give you 350 power. Factoring in major sorcery you are at 420. With various other buffs, you might be able to get 500 out of it, for 5 seconds. That will mean, that your tooltips will increase with 500-1000 damage, depending on further modifiers. That in turn, will result in 250-500 actual damage output, after Battle Spirit. Assuming you manage to pull of 5 attacks over the next 5 seconds, without EVER having to go defensive, that will net you 1250-2500 extra damage, over 5 seconds.

Now, to compare with the basic Disease/Fire/Frost enchant, which does 250o damage. Factor in Battlespirit, and that is a solid 1250 damage, without calculating for any external modifiers.

So, unless i am a MagDK spamming AOE skills inside of a Zerg, i see no reason to NOT use the upfront damage, from a basic damage Glyph?

Am i missing something?

A direct damage enchant is a single hit every five seconds. A spell/weapon damage enchant procs and increases damage for everything you laydown in that five seconds.

It's every skill within a 5 second window.

Well, yes, that is exactly what i write. And unless you working outside of GCD (dunno what the cheat engine can do), you will not be able to lay down more than 5 skills in that time window. Hence my quick calculation putting direct damage ahead of the spell power one. Since it will deal the same amount of damage, but instantly up-front instead of over 5 sec. And just as with money, damage suffers from inflation. Damage today is worth alot more than damage tomorrow.

Ah yes. This is the factor that i had forgotten. The same reason that Nirnhoned is not always worse that Sharpened. A skill like Swallow Soul will get a boost in both ends, and basically anyone running HoT would benefit from this.

I might not have made it clear enough, but as mentioned just before, this is already taken into account. In my assumption, you are able to fire off 5 skills in that 5 second window, which should produce 1250-2500 extra actual damage output (Spell Power translates pretty much 1:1 into damage. Meaning 500 more spell power, will increase the damage of a skill with 500.)

Oh, for anyone interested in how Spell Power converts into damage, see this awesome post, that most "nerds" in here already know very well.; http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/pts-2-1-2-sorcerer-arithmagic/

I'm a mag DK...and I will never NOT use that enchant lol. But yea, don't see it as being very useful for other mag classes. Maybe DW Mag NB?

Ha - yeah, Talons / Deep Breath spamming in 1vX is probably alot better off with the Power Glyph. Basically in any 1vX "AoE Spam"-fest. While alot of classes have some sort of AoE damage, like NB's doing Sap Essense or Templars Jabbing all day long, current Meta is still burst damage on single target. To which the instant damage glyph seems better. But my MagDK is already running the Power Glyph, as the only one of my Chars, since i enjoy ramming directly into zergs, spamming Talons/Deep Breath/Damage morph of Igneous.

Speaking of Fragmented Shield. I was testing it out last night, and I think I'm liking it over Igneous so far. I get my major mending from my heavy resto attacks anyways, so some extra damage+stam return is pretty nice. I have yet to use it in a large group setting where EVERYONE will have it on them =)
