Survey vanished

Yep as usual the good guys end up getting punished as well as i have already now lost that Survey. Patience is wearing very thin with this company and game.

Welcome to life? Everything is always factored to the lowest common denominator. In this case, people exploiting the system.

    The other fix is this:

I had a craglorn survey, marked it on my map, tried to find it, but survey disappeared. Never found it, but think I remember where it is, will the nodes still be there if I log on tomorrow?

    Nope.

I have the solution, but some of you may not like it.
Surveys are character bound and cannot be banked. Exploit fixed. Survey no longer disappears when you get close to the area.
    Good guys?
If you took this survey, how can you not know it's something that is not to be?
From what I understood, only a few high-level lands were infested, or is that wrong?
If it is actually like that: you ARE aware of how mat hunting works, how much the average drop is, the approximate respawn rate, things like that.
If you come across an extreme oddity, and you mine it not knowing it is a hack/exploit/whatever, but notice the oddity... what do you do?
Let me rephrase, what are you SUPPOSED to do?
Report, delete, and carry on, no?

I do not believe that those which had this survey in their stash are that innocent, at all!
    Or ignorant.

If you are passing an area with Survey Reports in your inventory, they will disappear when you get within an estimated 30 meters of the area. Three of mine disappeared from inventory after the 04/29/2016 hot fix while I was randomly exploring, but I was fortunate I knew which ones I had in my inventory. I was able to look up (online) where they were supposed to be and harvest before I completely forgot I had those Survey Reports.

This is bad, very bad. Wandering around exploring, all these Survey maps will disappear from your inventory before you even know to go look for them. They should disappear after you harvest the first one?

What is even worse is that ZOS expects that EVERYONE comes to this forum to read HOTFIX NOTES and we don't!

@ZOS_GinaBruno next time something like this happens that affects all of us that a note is made on the splash screen of the game. This simple move would prevent a lot of grief and misunderstanding.

Truly only other way I think they can approach a change to the surrey items and/or treasure maps is make them "Backpack Bound on pickup"

Which they would have to do something with items in the bank.

However no idea if the actual treasure maps for buried treasure were part of the problem though I see it happening too...

There are ALWAYS cheaters in this game. I have reported hundreds of harvesting bots for months and when the go way new ones just show up in their place. You have people selling game gold outside of the game. If you give a cheater an opening it will be taken because they are out there in droves, so ZOS DON'T give the cheaters any openings in the first place. Cheaters are a known issue that aren't going away. So it's ZOS's fault for enabling them when knowing about them.

And i hope they got perm banned for messing around with these surveys

3 days. Apparently that's how long they were banned and no action was taken against their characters. All gold and items collected are still there.

I heard, which is terrible from ZOS especially with these changes to Survey Maps and also servers being off at peak EU Time Friday nevermind the Gold they got away with

Because it's beyond credibility that anyone could be doing their first survey or first writ of a particular level since the fix, huh? (For the record, yes, I just did my first ever Level 9 Enchanting survey, and I did spend some time trying to find the actual nodes after the map disappeared. It wasn't a serious problem, but it was irritating.)

Speaking as someone who thinks "Backpack Bind" should never, ever have been put in the game, I have to admit that you're probably correct.

I think we get used to this in few days. For a hotfix, i think ZOS did decent job. The area spawns and map disappears quite close to the area. You are almost there, almost seeing the area. Just don't turn back and do not relog. The spawn and map destruction is irreversible. If you don't harvest and let the area to despawn, it's lost.

Don't let the addons fool you. They don't understand this new behaviour, and remove the area marker when approaching.

Maps in writ boxes do not disappear. You can harvest first, move away few hundred meters, open the box and return to harvest second time.

I don't like binding to character. I make writs on multiple characters and harvest on one.

I can say that I'm only just starting craglorn surveys, at level vet 5 and trying to find surveys whilst avoiding multiple groups of enemy's on your own is hard enough, and then it disappearing when your close can be frustrating, for someone who wants find it the proper way whilst exploring, rather than googling the location.

But I do think that one of my clothier surveys was back when I logged on next day after losing it totally the other day.

Yes, the hotfix is unfriendly, if you have not yet learned the locations.

I tested the hotfix with one map in Wrothgar.
    - I approached an area. The map disappeared and area spawned.
    - Standing very close to nodes i logged off/on.
    - After back in game the area was empty and no map in inventory.
So i believe you had another map, or you really never went close enough.

In Craglorn you can pick every survey map safely except clothier 3. That requires fighting, nb cloaking or rushing past few wasps. If you rush past them, stay close to edge because uphill is a pack of mages and fighters, which are very hard to kill. From skyreach wayshine go down to the closest river. Follow it until it falls down to lower Craglorn. You should see the wasps on your right side. If you kill them, usually right after them is a chest as a reward. But watch out the mobs uphill. You can sneak past them by staying close to the edge.

For the surveys north of Belkarth, approach them from Valley of Scars wayshrine. Drop down to lower Crag and run along the lake to south end survey area. From there you can go to Spellscar survey area staying on left side hugging a cliff side, until going south following crater edge.

All the survey areas in the middle of Craglorn can be reached by starting from Belkarth, west along road, turning north to wayshrine, circle the lake in front of Rkharkhark (whatever). Then continue west zigzagging between packs. Avoid the river at west and drop down to lake close by Sandy Path wayshrine. Along that route are many survey areas and lots of harvesting.

Other survey areas should be easily reached from the roads. The roads on Craglorn are 99% safe. So stay on road as long as possible.

I don't know if a bug has been fixed, but there are two surveys, woodwork and blacksmith, close to each other near Howling Sepulchers. It was safe to pick first blacksmith, then woodwork. But if you picked first the woodwork, there was a chance it disappeared too soon. It only disappeared when you had both maps in your pocket.

I had a survey disappear yesterday: Blacksmith II in Wrothgar, near the Nursery. I reached the area, but the nodes didn't spawn. I tried looking around a bit, but when I returned to the site and checked my inventory, the Survey was gone too.

Is it really that hard to simply make the surveys backpack-bound, like the Folium Discognitum or those fancy TG Edicts?

Having a similar, if not the same problem. I've had two of the Blacksmith Surveys for the Rift disappear from my inventory before I could collect the materials. I've got a few more saved up but don't want to take them out for fear I'll lose those as well.

Sadly, for now, I google the locations of surveys so I don't get lost/confused before going to find them....
