Crafting VR 16 Armor before Dark Brotherhood

So, I'm just about to hit the level cap for the first time ever. I was never V12 or V14 when those were max levels, but thanks to the new XP bonus random dungeon finder and CAKE, I am about to hit VR16 before veteran ranks disappear.

So, here's my question. I'm big on crafting in ESO. I craft all of the armor that I wear once I have a vet toon and a lot of it for leveling 1 - 50 alts. Is it worth it now to craft a full set of VR16? Make it all purple or even legendary? When DB comes out, will that giant expenditure become useless? Maybe I should make a VR15 purple set for a small fraction of the cost? I don't want to waste hundreds of Ruby mats and tons of yellow wax if the robes will be useless in June. Any input here from people who pay more attention than I do to ESO news?

Thanks, and best regards,
JB

Buy the sets sold in guild stores from pve. It's cheaper and still pretty good.

TESO needs a wardrobe system badly. Something similar to WoW's tmog system would make this game one of the best mmorpg out there!

We don't have any info on Dark Brotherhood yet, so it's impossible to say what it will include. It will almost assuredly come with new sets, but you will need something to wear while trying to acquire those sets.

Since ruby mats are much more prevalent now I'm crafting v16 gear for my characters that need it, but I'm hanging onto my golden tempers for now. Purple will work just fine for almost anything you want to do.

Armor, nah does not need to be VR16, Weapons Yes they should be VR16.

Unless your chasing Leaderboard times on trials or doing PvP, and not all forms of PvP at that, Purple or even Gold VR15 Armor is enough. Although if your planning on getting VR16 once you have the mats, then only go to Purple. Non of my VR16s have VR15 Armor.

What you do want to get are VR16 weapons and improve those to Gold. Armor, that can wait.

Thank you for your help, Nestor and Wayfarerx, both comments were very insightful. Depending on how much silk I have, I'll probably stick with VR15 purples and then make VR16 gold staves.

Well, I'm confused. I thought when VR is removed, crafting ranks would be done by CP instead, and for a VR16 chr (with 160 or more), they should still be able to wear their top ruby class armor and wep, so why shouldn't we upgrade fully? Are they taking away all our armor and weps or something?

Yea, this. ZoS told us that when VR ranks go, they will be replaced with CP. So your v16 gear will still be top of the line, only difference will be requrement for wearing it, ea 160CPs for v16 gear. Will there be better gear to craft? That might be or not, as i look at sets like Hundings rage, which is still BiS for many builds, and in my opininion still will be in DB.

Its the unknown of what sets will be offered in DB. This change to needing 10 times the mats, and with Gold Tempers going through the roof, it makes experimenting with top level gear rather expensive. It also makes just making and using VR16 gear expensive. You have to ask your self, "Do I really need VR16 Gear for what I do in the game?" If the answer is no, then don't spend the mats to make it.

Reason is, other than Gold Glyphs, the VR16 armors are not all that much more powerful than the VR15 gear. In fact, it's kind of like going from Vet rank of gear to the next. Not a big boost really. Weapons on the other hand, your going to gain 10% power, and that can make a difference in anything you do.

Hey Nestor thanks again - are the v16 gold enchantments worth it then, do you think? I have a lot of Kuta :-)

I would personally not make v15 gear. If you want to make gear before DB comes out, either downgrade to v14 purple, or up to v16 gold. Save the mats you would have used for v15 for when you want v16 gear. While v16 is a big step up from v15, the difference between v14 and 15 isn't that big, so if you aren't going for the top tier stuff anyways, save the cash and downgrade further.

Seriously. Short of the glyphs, the stat differences between VR15 and 16 is about 1%. The glyphs make a difference, but VR15 armor will in no way leave you high and dry. Weapons aside, Jewelry I'd always try to go VR16 because the glyphs do make a world of difference.
