Help with DK Tank build

I am fairly new to ESO and am in the midst of leveling (40). I have looked around and seen various guides builds and not only are the dramatically different from one to the next, but most of them seem outdated. I was hoping an experienced DK tank would be kind enough to refer me to a guide that is up to date and generally agreed upon as successful. Once I have that and begin to understand how the abilities gel, I could make personal modifications that fit my playstyle. I apologize if this has been asked and answered many times but I am looking to respec soon and would like to spend my points and start tanking, the right way. Thanks in advance.

There are a lot of different things you can do, so keep an open mind. You're right though, most of the guides and build suggestions on a quick Google search are outdated, and while many of them use some of the same skills and gear, not everything in them is entirely reliable.

A friend of mine started this thread about a current build he's using. It also happens to be the same build (or at least very close) that one of the tanks from HODOR uses. This build is a lot of fun and very useful for your group as well, taking advantage of both maximum mitigation potential, as well as group buffs for damage and sustain.

i dont know of any up to date tank builds that are listed anywhere but i will share my build with you. It is probably not the baddest tank build out there but may help to give you a general idea of where to start. It does well for me in any situation I have come across so far.

    gear is:

    2pc engine guardian
    4 piece deaths wind
    2 pc hist bark
    2pc endurance set
    2 pc agility set

using purple food, my stats are:

    30k health
    26k stam
    15k magicka
    31k physical & spell resistances

    skills:

    bar 1 sword n shield -
    ransack
    hardened armor
    absorb magicka
    igneous shield
vigor (or dragon blood if you dont have vigor unlocked)
    ultimate - magma shell

    bar 2 sword n shield -
    heroic slash
    unstable flame or shield charge
    caltrops
    burning talons
    evasion
ultimate - warhorn or dragon leap

    hope you find something useful.

edit: the stats are for a v16 nord dk and some of the skills you may not have unlocked yet.

Thank you for the quick replies. I have found the ESO forums to be one of the better gaming community forums. I will investigate both of these and use the ideas to educate myself further.

Another question, which I think I already know the answer to. But while leveling does it make sense to try and pick up all skills to at least the point I can morph them?

    Thanks a ton,

It varies depending on your playstyle and what type of content you do (pvp, pve, both). Generally speaking, I pick up everything in class skills/passives when leveling a new character. You can limit weapon skills to just the ones you plan on using, but take all the passives. You'll want all armor passives (for those you plan on wearing), all Fighter's Guild passives, and I would recommend most of the Mage Guild Passives too. Vigor and Caltrops from Alliance War are important, along with racial passives, Undaunted passives (and Inner Fire). I'd also recommend leveling alchemy and provisioning on your character, and at the very least taking the passives that increase the duration of food and potions, even if you take out all other points.
