You're talking about English, there is no normal pronunciation rules, pronunciation in English is ruled by you're nationality and locality. Scots, Irish, Brits, Yankee's, Southerners, midwesterners, Texans, Australians, South Africans, all speak English yet can all pronounce the same word differently and at times with different meanings. All of those are obvious though and should come naturally...
however OP I will continue to say "drew wax" simply because if Champagne is pronounced "sham-pain" it's correct because it is understood that this is how the French pronounce it grammatically it is correct. However by this logic just because the devs decide to pronounce it "dreg" it needs to be said like that, no thank you. Champagne would then be pronounced: "Champ -agne" ( similar to the name Agnes ) which is completely wrong.
