It's kind of sad this thing bothers you enough to type about it on the forums.

I guess it can be annoying on console where you actually hear it, especially when it's wrong more often than not.

I'm only on PC, but I remember when I was on TS with a few teammates and one continuously pronounced certain words or names wrong, I was just as annoyed by it. This happens when people don't listen to NPCs or are too lazy to even properly read the words or names.

Read rhymes with lead and read rhymes with lead, but read doesn't rhyme with lead and read doesn't rhyme with lead.....

You're talking about English, there is no normal pronunciation rules, pronunciation in English is ruled by you're nationality and locality. Scots, Irish, Brits, Yankee's, Southerners, midwesterners, Texans, Australians, South Africans, all speak English yet can all pronounce the same word differently and at times with different meanings. Both "Dreg" and "Drew" as well as "Drow" could all be correct or incorrect based on your own locality as well as the character within the fantasy of the story.

I don't think that video indicates how it's pronounced, as I've heard others pronounce it as "drew" (as well as botch other words).

To be honest, I've always felt the actual pronunciation was...

    *drum roll*

    Dray

Well, that's how I say it and I'm sticking to it until undeniable proof states otherwise.

English is much easier to write than to speak, IMO.

Also, what she says sound like "dragon butter sauce" to me xD
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

At least pronouncing it 'drew' follows normal pronunciation. I find it funny when I hear bugloss pronounced 'bug-loss'. It should be 'bu-gloss'.

    bugloss
    noun bu·gloss \ˈbyü-ˌgläs, -ˌglȯs\

    Does it though?

Where else in English is "eugh" pronounced "ooh" like that?

    Bleugh? Creugh? Neugh?

I will agree it does not look like "Dreg." I will not agree that "Dreugh" is pronounced "Drew" using normal rules of English. Maybe it is Drew-guh, or droy-gh or something like that.

    Just not "Drew."

So the game gave a script to the voice actors, the actors said it wrong, and the voice directors said, "Ohhh, lunch time! That's a wrap!"

You don't think it's more likely that you can others have been wrong about it?

All of those are obvious though and should come naturally...

however OP I will continue to say "drew wax" simply because if Champagne is pronounced "sham-pain" it's correct because it is understood that this is how the French pronounce it grammatically it is correct. However by this logic just because the devs decide to pronounce it "dreg" it needs to be said like that, no thank you. Champagne would then be pronounced: "Champ -agne" ( similar to the name Agnes ) which is completely wrong.

So honestly I don't care what the dev who "invented the word" think it is English pronunciation of words ending with gh have a certain way of being pronounced. and a hard "G" is not one of them.

Hello etymology wannabes. Here's why it's pronounced DREG. DREH-G. DRE-GH.

    DREG.

dregs, by definition, are the lowest form of employees/servants/slaves. They aren't even worthy of cleaning up feces. They are feces. They are below feces.

We are humans. And i guess mer (inferior). Khajiit are ok. BUT DAMN IT, the greatest of such. How DARE. DARE. we. Be subjected to these FREAK, MONSTER, LAND CRUSTEACEANS. Whom only job, is to suck at life and be a living pest, and provide some possibly delicious meat (have not sampled it myself).

    Dregs. Dreg wax.

    End. Of. Discussion.
