Magicka Heavy Attack Spec in PVP

billywink3b14_ESO
Hello!

I'm looking to make a magicka DK (High Elf) focusing on Destro/Resto staff.. haven't decided between Ice (no idea Ice gave you a damage shield!!!) or Fire yet but anyways... Is it decently viable (I know that probably doesn't make much sense but I didn't know how else to word it) to play in PVP?

I feel like it would be very hard to hit someone as no one is rarely stationary and the load up time to cast is kind of long? Also, is it interrupted by gap closers (I'm talking about Ambush/crit rush)? I'm also looking to play more smaller scale pvp when I hit max level.

My play style would be focusing on roots/stuns/snares (talons, fossilize) and try to deter melee from me (ie standing in ash cloud, banner) and focusing main attacks with light/heavy staff hits with the occasional destructive touch and crushing shock.

**Please note, I understand DKs suck or whatever I've seen everyone's opinion but I find the class really fun and like a lot of the spells/skills they have. I have no get-away option but oh well! I'm am also not going vamp with all of the stuff I've read about with regards to the whole camo hunter thing...

Fire is great for weaving medium charge attacks and your abilities for burst. I have been testing Ice and found it somewhat lacking in PvE, not tested in PvP. But I think it would be great for control.

However many of our class abilities do that with better damage, until they fix Wall of Elements damage I would stick with Fire.

As for the damage output you would put, it would be minimal in PvP as with player reactions and champion points and your build.

Typical use Daedric minefield for control and damage to deal with chargers as a I keep my shield up, with out your shield you will die in less then 2 hits even with 2 heavy armor pieces along with 5 piece light armor. Use streak for extra control + damage or escape if things get hairy.

Learn to use your environment to LoS from the gap closers.

Hit the nail on the head. Also, people will heal themselves before you can get that executable heavy attack off.

I feel the heavy attacks would be really good on a night blade because you can cloak and they wont know ur charging a heavy attack and boom you crit a 14k heavy attack you would have to stack the staff champion points for this to be super effective tho

I just started messing around with this magicka DK but my main is an orc stam dk. I use all light armor, destro, and resto. I use heavy attacks with this build so you can feel free to check it out.

Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

Sounds like you've got the right ideas.

Go fire, it does more dmg per heavy attack. Bonus points if you roll a Dunmer.

They are most definitely interruptable. You'll find heavy attacks hard to get off in a 1v1 type of situation, that's where your stuns can help.

However, if you've got a few teamates or are on a wall, your setup will be crazy effective at blindsiding ppl who aren't focusing you. Heavy artillery FTW.

Flame staff has a long range knockback, fire clench. Heavy attack weaving with that and igneous weapons can really mess with their flow.

There are a couple neat things.

    1) You can activate Molten Armaments AND charge your heavy attack without breaking stealth.
    2) You can stack Elemental Expert and Staff Expert for double bonus damage from CP.
    3) While charging a heavy attack, if you try to activate an ability (like Flame Reach), it kinda gets queued up, so that the ability and the heavy attack happen simultaneously for good burst. And you're not popped out of stealth until it fires.
    4) As long as you keep flapping your wings, you don't have to worry about reflects. Nothing is more satisfying that bouncing your attacks back after a reflect.

Hopefully you can wind up a second heavy attack while they're being knocked back by the flame reach. You can also weave in light attacks with Force Pulse spam, which is pretty underrated. Charging a fire heavy attack isn't a flashy animation, so the advantage is that most people aren't anticipating the amount of burst you can do with it.

Thanks for the feedback guys :). Appreciate it!

I know they're interruptible but do gap closer interrupt? Like if a NB was spamming Ambush would I be interrupted constantly?

Most gap closers do not interrupt. But some will stun you and the Templar class charge ability has an interrupt built in.

Ambush will not interrupt but it will stun if the attacker is in stealth and behind you

Is there any difference doing this with a staff instead of a bow? Seems like you could stack now expertise and mighty perks in much the same way for now heavy attacks.

Yes. I'm using molten armaments with a bow. Charge up heavy attack and release it with silver shards and it will hit as hard as wrecking blow if you're far away.

DK Mage is very fun in PvP. However, you may end up using mostly Destruction staff and Mage Guild spells because the DK skills require you to be very close to the enemy, who will just beat you to death with wrecking blow. With Champion Points into Heavy Attacks and Molten Armaments, however, I have on occasion two-shotted people with just heavy attacks.
