I am okay with the contest as is. Charity donations most likely already happen from the company and it's investors and employees.

Simple question as the thread title.

Can we get enough support from the community to show that we're more than a bunch of grumpy, self interested games and willing to encourage Zenimax Media/ZOS/Bethesda that this money could go to a better cause. This would generate better press around the world that the ESO community would rather help others than themselves and give the above companies something positive in the press at the same time (if you want some self serving purpose for donating to charity).

As gamers I would recommend Child's Play. http://childsplaycharity.org/

Lastly if you want a more fun poke at ZOS for this there is a poll made my Lava Croft here (which inspired me to make this one) http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/234256/where-should-the-1-000-000-that-zos-apparently-has-lying-around-go-to

most "charity organizations" are lining their own pockets with the money. I personally donate right to the labs that are doing the research i support.

Was wondering what the community was like in regards to things like this. I come from EVE Online so am used to the absurd level of charity and giving the player community there has.

Apparently the backstabbing trolling griefer community is more charitably.

I'm playing ESO for charity and typically posted moments before the giveaway was announced. I'm struggling to compete with that thread and my target is £150 to help cancer patients and family. People may not want the 1mil donated but I hope I can rely on the community to at least donate £1, $1, €1.

I decided to play ESO for 24 hours as I rather like my ESO family. Thank you

You know only about 2% of that would actually reach the good cause right? rest of it would go to director salaries, admin and overheads, like Oxfam less than 10% actually the poor people in Africa the rest is gobbled up by high flying American fat cats residing in the Cayman islands. bad idea giving anything to Charity imo. corrupt business

Agree. Even the wounded warriors fund is load of crap. Had multiple friends look into that after being medically discharged. All the help they recieved was the blanket and a pat on the back.

    Its rigged anyway.

    No.

It should go in my pocket. It's not like it would be wasted, I have student loans from my days in college and now my wife is working through her Master's Degree. The cash would come in very handy.

So, no; the prize should not go to a charity.

You guys remember those god-mode cheat codes in games that made you immortal and do 9999damage? Remember how it was fun for a short while but then the game was dumb so you either stopped playing or stopped using god-mode and went back to normal play? It's kind of like that with winning money. The people who win enormous lump sums of money wind up worse in life than when they started. $50,000 a year is for your own protection.

I don't know what I would do with a million dollars, only what I would say I would do, but even so it would be far better to use it to secure your own financial security and then donate the rest to secure your family or those in need. Getting around the troubles in life simply by fortune tends to break people in terrible ways. It can easily be a doom as much as a blessing if it's not handled carefully. The troubles in life are also what develop our character and humanity.

charity is a corrupted business. if ZOS want to elect a president for a country for example, they would donate some millions to some charity thing, but this money is to promote the game, take the front lines of websites like IGN, Esports and such.
thus bringing more people to play the game. what they need to focus on meanwhile is to make those who come by this ad to actually STAY in the game, otherwise its a fail investment.

Might have better to give 10 winners $100k each, but I don't think that grabs as many headlines in the gaming media.

This isn't about giving away money, it's Zeni marketing trying to pull in more players and cover most of that prize money

If they want to make front lines, maybe do it for reasons which are not splashing money out in idiotic sweepstakes.

You know like EVE Online manages to do because it's community continues to create new and more intense news worthy content, or donates hundreds of thousands to the Red Cross during natural disasters, helps support the families of players killed in horrific events etc.

Bah... this is not the community I was looking for. I keep forgetting we're all self serving epeen obsessed people within this community. :disappointed:

Why don't you just do us all a favor and go play EVE then instead of criticizing people who actually could improve their life with $50k a year? People can donate to charities if they choose, but the fact that you are criticizing people who choose not to offends me. There are a lot of people who can barely pay their bills, have student loans to pay off, want to put their children through college or have medical issues that impact their ability to work. Are you saying that a charity deserves the money more than one of these people?

I've spent a lot of time doing charity, all around the world. The real world always needs more charity while greed is valued more than generosity.

If TESOTU/ZoS gave amouts like this to charity, that alone would keep my sub rolling for years. Maybe they already do and I've just had my head buried so far into cyrodiil that I didn't notice.

But yeah, big business giving back always gets respect from me.

Would rather see a player tourney if everyone is dedicated to giving it all to one person and I'm fine with that too, it's really good. But giving to charity, giving to people that might not even know this game exists, that is real generosity my friends.

"self serving" is usually the insult of last resort when someone doesn't get their way. Be cool man, just because a lot of people don't believe in your idea doesn't mean they even remotely disagree with giving or helping. I'm very big on giving, but I do so through my local church (and before anyone gives grief, we do not have 6 figure pastors or stadium seating). I believe that charitable giving is up to the individual, and trying to gauge our feelings then getting mad when you discover it's not the same as yours is hardly fair.
