Another possible solution to zerging: Taunting in PvP.

If AoE caps aren't gonna be removed, something else should be done to help curb zerging.

Like, make one of the morphs of the two taunt skills WORK ON PLAYERS, and make them AoE also. For example, the magicka morph of inner fire should be AoE, not a player based AoE but something like how the templar reflective light is now. An idea for the sword / shield taunt is to make it a player based aoe without the debuffs, but make it have really short range, like 4-8 meters. The taunts that I would replace or change would be inner rage and ransack. Let's be honest, is having another 960 armor or having increased chance to activity synergy all that great?

An AoE player taunt would make zergs easier to deal with and it would make tank builds extremely useful, much more viable then they are now. Of course taunting players should give them immunity to being taunted again for a certain amount of time, like CC immunity does. Said taunts should also have a cast time too so they cannot be spammed. Also the morphs of the AoE taunts should have a minimum required targets and a maximum required targets in order to cast, so that giant zergs can't just taunt spam smaller groups.


Player aggro skills/taunts have been done successfully in other games....just an idea that might work in ESO.

    Taunts in other games almost exclusively worked as a dmg reduction to everyone else but the taunting player.

    You would have to make them just another form of CC - meaning immunity and people would be able to break it. This would make a taunt virtually useless as purge spam would remove it too.

    I don´t think it would work. Overly complicated with too little benefit.

    Useful ranged AOE and CC would to wonders though. Where did you get the idea nothing about aoe caps is gonna change?

    I don't know about this. What I do know is that taunt skills should have some additional benefit against players since they lose one of their features atm moment with no compensation.

    In Lineage 2(an older but still pretty popuplar PvP game), the 4 tank classes in that game have taunts that work on players, not to lower damage but to force other players to attack them for a few seconds.
    Giving players a way to stop zergs and make PvP tanks worthwhile is not "little benefit". It's not that complicated either imo, and I don't think purge should affect taunt if anything like it was implemented. Purge removes everything as is, makes too many skills with dots or debuffs useless.

    I do agree that there needs to be more ranged aoe CC though.

    ZOS hasn't said whether they will change aoe caps or not so thats why I said that. Until they come out and say they'll remove it I just assume they won't. Hope I'm wrong on that though..however if they don't I still believe a PvP taunt, if done right would work wonders in this game.

    Haven't played Lineage - how exactly does it work? If in ESO, your single target skills always target the tank for example, it wouldn't help against AoE spamming zergs. Or if you would actually lose control over your character, it would most likely mean your death because of the fast paced gameplay, unless you can break it, effectively making it just another hard cc.

    Aside from that, tanks have been nerfed consistantly since 1.6, in their current state they're pretty useless anyway, imo.

    Taunt in COH was the best implementation IMO.

    You couldn't target anyone else other than the individual who taunted you.

    In L2 you had to manually click a player to target them ( the game plays better with click to move), There isn't any tab target in that game, but it's also not an action mmo like ESO is, so I guess having people being forced to attack a tank might not work as well as I thought it might, because of how ESO's combat system is. :/

    indeed. Saw that in multiple games, works fine
