@Gidorick - Will we see the "rare shaggy giant centipede herdbeast that can live only at high altitudes" in Orsinium that is spoken of in the Pocket Guide to the Empire, 1st Edition/The Wild Region?
Lady Honnorah af-Lahreq says, “No such beast is mentioned in either De Brazy’s ‘Steeds of Tamriel’ or Luponio’s ‘Mounts of the World,’ so it’s probably safe to regard them as mythical. (I’ve always found the Orcs to be more fanciful than most people think!)"

ZOS lead us to believe we wouldn't see these creatures but I'm going to go ahead and think these Echateres in Orsinium are the animals spoken of in the Pocket Guide to the Empire.

They're pack animals... which I would think would qualify as a herd animal. Imagine someone seeing a group of them walking together. all those legs... all that fur.

Seeing these made me grin like a damned fool. Nice creation ZOS... I don't know If the designer of this animal intended it to the shaggy centipede but if they did, I really respect the interpretation.

I feel to point out that it seems to have only six limbs. Thats a far cry from a centipede I guess. Other than that, it is called Echatere. And I hope they make mounts one day

Was pretty clear... either it wasn't or you don't read posts before replying.

If it was the former, let me clarify.

I could believe that some adventurer seeing a pack of these animals might think there were fewer than there were, and not being able to easily distinguish between the animals, the observer might THINK they're giant furry centipedes.

Here is a visual aid to show you what a small group of Echateres would look like if they were walking in a loose line.

Kind of like a furry centipede. I could see someone thinking that's what they were. ESPECIALLY if they were frightened

I am inclined to agree. Someone get Honnorah af-Lahreq up here, she needs to actually visit these places before commenting on what you can find there :)

I agree @Enodoc. I love that lore continues to be... subject to perspective. I even read some stuff from the loremaster's archive that brought the question up as to whether or not the Senche Mounts are Khajiits back up. Sort of contradicting what was previously said (that they were just mindless beasts), and suggesting that they MIGHT be Khajiit.

    Good stuff.

'Herd' animal.'Heard' is the past tense of hear.

@Gidorick awesome thread, I was just about to start one but before I did I googled 'eso shaggy herdbeast centipede' and it brought me here. I would love to see these eventually make there way to the crown store or some quest related mount (if that ever happens in general)

    A simple orc can dream.

Also I think your spot on with the interpretation of the idea of 'centipede'. I can easily picture an orc warband cascading over what is thought to be an impassable mountainside in single file giving the impression of a 'centipede' to those foolish men and mer stricken with fear searching for a way to describe what they saw.
