I find that the only time I ever need the healer/resto staff is when I am in a group of 3 DPS and a tank. We need a healer so I will switch and use the resto staff and heal. Certainly not as effective as a Templar but it gets the job done in most 4 mans. The daily 4 man for sure can be healed by a non healer class with level 50 in resto and leveled skills.
I have to say, I'm loving the Bound Aegis and Healing Ward combo. I'm useing it with Dark Fragments, Drain Essence and shattering prison.
I'm not sure about my second loadout though. I have Shattering Prison swapped out for a Volatile Familiar and Healing Ward swapped out for Mutagen but that's it.
I also see no purpose for the Mist Form Vampire ability as a Sorcerer, probably better for physical attack builds.
You might be guided by some out-dated info, all magicka based and staff attacks scale from spell dmg, spell crit and max magicka. You're missing out on 20% spell dmg, this makes your spells crit harder which in turn increases the heal effect from power surge.
You can see you almost lose more dmg than you gain in healing. Important to remember is that not all skills will proc the surge heal effect when they crit and it has a cooldown of 100ms. You wont receive heals from crit dots and you only a small heal from crit aoe dmg because you hit all targets at the same time.
My advice is to use Power Surge with the Thief mundus stone for an extra 12% spell crit (up to 18.3% with 7 divines gear pieces). With 12% extra spell crit your total crit rating would become 54% (up to 60.3%).
Thief-average-dmg,power-surge = (14.474 x 0.54) + (9.649 x 0.46) = 7816 + 4439 = 12.255
Thief-average-heal,power-surge = (5790 x 0.54) + (0 x 0.46) = 3127
So currently I am at 45% Spell crit, running Shadow Mundus with Divines on all crafted gear. I am going to respec Morphs tonight and level power surge and see what changes this makes and keep the crit damage Mundus. Then switch and see the effects of play. I guess it is Quantity VS Quality.
My single target DPS bar has no AOE spells on it so all (Offensive)spells (on my bar) proc heals.
Inner light will only be sitting on my 3 rd bar. There is no room for it on the first bar at all. AOE damage rotation on the second bar however could see inner light added and I have experimented with this before, but I was really not impressed with the difference and I lost out on Harden ward for damage mitigation for the extra magika and crit. I never saw monsters being burned down so much faster running inner light on the AOE rotataion bar.
Thanks for the math. Makes sense based on your information. Mundus aside seems the loss of healing would not matter that much.
Ran with Rank 1 Power surge last night and there was a significant difference in the smashing power of Cfrags. I was killing Vet 10 mobs with 2 hits.
Got into a few World Boss solo fights to see the effectiveness of the heals (Still rank 1 skill) and really it was pretty close to Crit Surge as it was stated it would be.
