So like ZOS! They said they wouldn't raise level cap with Orsinium, not that they would never raise them again. Is that a lie of omission?

Christ dude get a grip. Every MMO in history that was ever worth a damn has raised their level cap over the years. It's fun to progress and get stronger.

Yeah but it usually doesn't happen every few month, especially when official word is still that this sort of progression will be removed. Also GW2 is not rising the level cap, which proves it's not needed.

They haven't, correct. Do not forget gw2 goes up to level 80, around 15 levels higher than this game, currently.

I don't get why people are so angry about VRs. I mean...it's the same thing as if they were 50-66. Just a different name. Would people be as upset if level cap were raised to something called level 68?

Not trying to be smart, I just legit don't get it. It's leveling regardless of what it's called, right?

The concern about VR levels is a little misleading. No one is actually concerned about leveling from VR 14 to VR16, or from VR16 to VR18. Or from Level 79 to Level 81. Or whatever they might be called. That takes a day or two. People are concerned about gear they put an enormous amount of time and effort and gold and grinding and farming and RNG will be invalidated. Obviously, ZOS will have to come out with more difficult content that requires better gear at some point. But acquiring good gear is a humongous grind at VR16. And people rightly want to enjoy a build they put so much time into for a reasonable period. Having to start a VR18 gear grind 2 months after the VR16 gear grind started would be deflating.

For me, I want to optimize my character at max rank. If I put in all this work to make my khajit a beast at v16, then they release v18... all that work is wasted and I have to remake everything. If they keep doing this, then what's the point of remaking it if it'll just be obsolete in a couple months? It trivializes the game.
No, it doesn't trivialize the game. It trivializes your personal approach to the game.

Those two are not the same ...

I am actually fine with level cap being raised every one year or so as it is common in MMORPGs.

Yes, because everything that's common must be ok. Like brain damage amongst American Football players.

Please stop making requests for game features. ZOS have enough bad ideas as it is!

Level cap raises, accompanied by significant amounts of content are fine.

Ruins of Kunark (EQ) is a well-done example of this.

Small raises, with a little bit of content, are BS.

Give me a new continent to play, and I will happily level to VR20

And Matt Firor made it very clear a month or so after release that they'd rather shut down the servers than abandon the subscription model...

AGAIN ?????? C'm'on folks, stop this quote necromancy :D

And by the way, he said he'd rather shut down the servers than go F2P and afaik ESO isn't F2P.

    This guy's right ^ :)

Anyways, Orsinium has been in the works for a year+. VR17-18 was most likely a part of their original plan, which probably changed recently and one simple achievement was missed. There, reasonable explanation given. Can we all be happy now?

Christ dude get a grip. Every MMO in history worth mentioning has raised their level cap over the years. FFXI WOW Everquest etc. It's fun to progress, get stronger, and theory craft new builds with new gear.

I think ESO may end up being a unique specimen. Maybe I am the only one who feels this way, but vertical character progression like vet ranks, and to some extent the champion system, gets old after a while. I don't think it is a bad thing at all if they completely ditch that model in favor of anything different.

If they get rid of the vet ranks, add Spell Crafting, continue expanding itemization, and keep pushing out quarterly content ESO might become an MMO where the fun progression is exploring that massive breadth of options available to refine your own play style.

    I like this post.

I remember not sooo long ago when the point of playing in CYRODILL was for fun, AP wasn't even a concern (expect having enough for bricks and siege). It was some of the "balance" changes/patches that killed the fun.

I'd prefer the game be changed to make the point of playing for actual enjoyment rather than just grinding.

I believe they are testing the waters with the new DLC. If the scaling works, like the materials, and players of different levels and all that ***, chances are they will make all zones on the same model and remove veteran ranks. It's like you have relations with a virgin, you have to take it slowly and test the waters.

Ultima Online did this just in a slightly different manner. It was a great game as well.

I personally feel they should leave the veteran ranks in place as they don't require nearly the grind they used to.

    Hey all,

We are not raising the Veteran Rank level cap. The text is a relic of the past that we missed in our clean up pass, and won't be included when the patch goes to the live megaservers. Hope this helps to clarify!

Too bad, leveling up is SOOO much FUN

Actually yes for some...but others have concerns with Alts due to how VR level gating applies and continuous ZOS changed to prevent grinding and force quest leveling.

If it's 50 + champ levels that's one thing but a base level max, a VR max and a cp cap and gated zones that force questing or paid DLC becomes a concern for some of us (me)

I keep ESO plus so no DLC issues but on my Alts I'm not into quest leveling silver n gold zones.
Dungeons don't give exp worth grinding and PvP is required for decent public dungeon exp

Now that it's been over a year since VR was announced to be removed and then to add more VR but cap cp....it's a bit frustrating.
