Full +magicka on attribute points. Chest and legs heavy armor, rest light armor. Get the relevant block and magicka passives in both armor trees. You can try using full 7/7 light armor, but you’ll be more of a glass cannon then.

Skill bar for aoe while questing: Equip two weapons in this bar; NOT a staff! Dual wielding gives you more spell damage.

1. spear shards/luminous shards morph (aedric spear skill group): press that skill while running around, and the mobs in front of you will be highlighted. If you run close to mobs, throw the spear to middle mob, and cast skill 2 immediatly after while your mouse cursor is on the middle mob.

2. sunfire/reflective light morph(dawn wrath skill group): cast this skill right after while your mouse hovers over middle mob in a pack, and the fire dot will spread to the mob left and right aswell. This skill increases spell crit, so you can use this first also, then the spear skill (1) Its very important that you start holding BLOCK now, and block cast skill 3 after this. You will spend your stamina on blocking, and you will lose less health while mowing mobs down.

3. Solar flare/solar barrage morph(dawn wrath skill group): bread and butter aoe spam skill. Keep firing this skill until all mobs are down.

4.Rushed ceremony/breath of life morph(restoring light skill group): use this in emergency to heal you up.

5. Magelight (Inner light morph) (Mage guild skill tree): put this on bar. It increases your damage by increasing max magicka pool and it gives you spell crit that stacks with the spell crit from sunfire (skill 2)

Ultimate: Solar disturbance/solar prison morph (dawn’s wrath skill group). Use this ultimate until you get mage guild lvl 10 ultimate: meteor/shooting stars morph (mage guild skill tree) (use solar prison till you got this one, mage guild ultimate is best dps ultimate) Slotting shooting stars is overpowered: it will give you ultimate gain for each enemy YOU hit. So, ideal for (world) bosses. Until you get it at VR5 (more or less, if you found all lorebooks in each map), use solar prison.

Skill bar for (world) bosses while questing/leveling: Equip one hander and shield for better blocking and more armor. Or two other 1 hand weapons if you are confident

1. Backlash/Purifying light morph: Open with this on bosses. It will greatly increase your dps. If you still die replace this skill with rune focus/chaneled focus morph (restoring light skill tree) for more survivability and less dps.

2. Entropy/structured entropy morph (mage guild skill group). This spell improves your spell damage, and with three mage guild skills slottted on this bar, the mageguild passives start kicking in. The skill only needs to be recast each 15 secs. . Alternatively, use reflective light again. Its very important that you start holding BLOCK now, and block cast skill 3 after this. You will spend your stamina on blocking, and you will lose less health while mowing mobs down.

3. Puncturing strikes/Puncturing Sweep morph (aedric spear skill group): this morph makes skill magicka based and it heals you while casting. Keep repeating this until beam from skill 1 is gone, then recast skill 1,2 and spam 3 again. Alternatively, you can use the so called ‘jesus beam’ kill… Slot radiant destruction/ radiant oppression morph for uber dps, or the other morph to be heald while casting.

4 and 5 are same as bar 1.

This build allows you to spam templar spec skills with any weapons. All the skills are low level, so you can use this guide from early on.Dual wielding in bar 1 gives you more dam, but less blocking. Sword and shield in bar2 is mandatory.
The general idea is to get all (relevant) passives from 1h and shield to increase your blocking amount versus bosses. So switch to bar 2 when handing skills in.
Dual wielding for dps sounds weird as magicka user, but dual wielding increases your weapon damage. And more weapon damage means more spell damage!.
If you learn how to block cast, it speeds up your exploration/questing/levellin experience greatly, as you can be a better survivability glass cannon DPS'er.

Regarding items: I Always used chest and legs heavy armor, and 5 light armor pieces with +magicka in the other slots. If you feel you are too squishy still, can equip more heavy armor. But you will lose on magicka recovery. If you never die, you can go 7/7 light armor.

SET items are the best, even when being green items. Look up +magicka sets for your level. Sets that give bonuses to magicka/spell damage/magicka recovery are all good. Try to wear ALL set items, and configure your gear so you get the best set bonuses! Shop guild traders for green set items. They are usually cheaper then you think. Only warlock rings at vr1+ cost 2-3k even at green quality..
Replace enchantment on rings/amulet always to reduce spell cost. Even dropped white glyphs will make huge difference. Using reduce spell cost on rings will deplete your magicka lot slower.

He knows me so well :'(:D

Need to grind my Templar Vet levels so might give this a go at some point. Although what you've detailed is slightly differnt from Deltias, still an interesting read. Thanks for bringing it to the forum!

deltias guide is about maximizing ST dps. For exploring/levelling, I think you need more AOE, and the ability to aoe with dual wielding (without using destro staff fire ring).

Hence why no dark flare (took to other morph to spam aoe self centered spell).

I took deltia advice and adapted build a little to exploring and levelling. You can grind very well with it, as it has huge aoe potential.

Just my two cents.. Wanted to share build to see if I missed anything :)

i kinda like positioning myself between 3-74 mobs to spam solar barrage and watch 'm all go down at once :)

Dark flare is likely more useful at raiding etc.

But, this is levellin guide after all :)

Doesn't Solar Barrage scale of stamina and weapon dmg?
United we stand, divided we fall. Shields as one!

No, it uses magicka. But increased weapon damage increases spell damage, hence why i dual wield. Dual wielding gives more weapon damage, which then scales spell damage up.

    Solar Barrage I

    Cast Time Instant

    Target Area

    Radius 8 meters

    Cost 315 Magicka

Scorch nearby enemies with a blast of solar energy, dealing 9 Magic Damage to all enemies in range.
Also grants you Empower, increasing the damage of your next attack by 20%.

    New Effect:
No longer has cast time and deals damage to enemies near you.

Solar barrage is like the destro fire ring.. But it also empowers you. So once you cast it, the next fire ring deals 20% more damage.

Would you alter this playstyle at all for PS4? I'm kinda digging the DnD Paladin feel of it.

I use Deltia's Omega Templar build on XBox One, currently at level 43 (Breton Templar), and I love it. I basically do the same as what's noted above. I particularly like it for running around with higher level folks so I can add something useful. Purifying light is really helpful to boost damage from your higher-level group members, and radiant oppression is really useful to finish off a tough boss since you get the triple damage once the boss gets low in health. You can also play a healer role, which makes it a versatile choice if you're grouping up since you can fill the DPS or healer role.

I go with 7 light armor myself. I don't feel particularly vulnerable. I just ran through two Coldharbour dungeons and was able to clean them out along with the bosses without too much trouble, which I think proves it's viable even with all light armor.

I would recommend it. Good for AoE damage, great for single enemy targeting, and if you go with a second bar of restoration staff with healing springs/combat prayer also very good for group buffing and healing. Very versatile build.
