Do you just plug a keyboard into the sucker?
If so, it's a shame that it would be so easy to allow you to text chat, but that ZOS, for most likely legal reasons (root problem: people can't be trusted with such freedom), you are getting shafted.
Each console handles this in its own ways.
Excluding Ps4 if on Cbox One if the keyboard is plugged in prior to turning on the console then a game or app must also be developed to utilize the keyboard.
By default only the letters n numbers work minus the number pad and all function keys, shift and enter.
As seen on Warframe and Neverwinter when the keyboard is plugged in prior to turning on the console the enter key prompts the text box and you type. Problem is linking and replying or highlighting, quote, etc have convoluted commands and controller+keyboard requirements cause there is no mouse support or a cursor.
What seems practical ends up with new challenges for some.
To each its own but I'd rather not have it on Xbox one.
It's on PC and works great there
Those are minor challenges when in comparison to not havING a chat at all. I would rather have th k see minor inconveniences and be able to group up, trade, and talk with people all around, than not have it and deal with the garbage we currently have.
The pros outweigh the cons immensely.
Actually a lot of what your commenting as pointed out in another thread is your refusal to adapt
You purchased a game that works the way it's designed.
Either adapt, be innovative or stop complaining. You've even shared many times you're not willing to compromise....bud that's your issue overall.
It's nothing wrong with feedback but at this point you've spent his weeks whining about something that seemingly is not going to change. Oddly what you desire exists on PC.
Sale the console and get a PC...move on or play the game on console as is and be innovative
I honestly can't understand why you didn't return the game of it didn't meet your desires but that's another topic
Nice way to dodge facts and throw insults around. Any other MMO on console has text chat very similar to pc, so why should this game differ? Try to stay on topic, and reply to my comment properly.

It's not a matter of trying to figure it out. I use the channels given to communicate, and as many others and myself included have said... the current system in eso is not efficient or practical for this game. And other games on consoles in this same exact genre have successfully implemented a tool that efficiently gets the job done, ie TEXT CHAT.
So again you are asked, why should eso stray from such an effective tool (especially when the tools currently in place are not effective as they should be)?
Because only like 500 ppl out of the millions that play want it?

I love how you can speak for the entire ESO community. Good job!
I just turn off area chat, trying to mentally filter between 30 voices at the same time gives me a bad headache. I would like text chat, but until the day it exists I'll just do my thing. Ever notice that "most" people that are against text chat for consoles are those that play on PC?... Yep I said it, ready for the yelling (though it's true). I'm not against addons or controller use for PC users, so why are PC users so devoted to keeping text chat from console?

The best example was made on ESO live today...ppl will tell you what they don't like but when things are fine they don't come to the forums.
His point is based on forum polls only 500 ppl are complaining vs the hundreds of thousands not complaining. On ESO live he then continues to say it's a sweet spot when 50% complain and 50% are happy.
That's where he's was going with the comment about 500ppl

I just want my own special place with my own people! Haha but really serious let down that the forum messiah of all is in this thread as well.
All I Can say is that if text chat was so game breaking and terrible why is it in the PC version? Consolers are here now and we want to play and interact with the ESO community the same way PC can. A community with endless proximity that doesn't ignore the deaf players or those with anxiety issues.
For those against text chat think of putting forward the idea of making text chat a toggle feature from the menu. Then you get what you WANT and we get what we NEED!

Perhaps humorous to you but it's concerning to me that on the forums a small group of ppl seem to be unable to operate their consoles. The majority of the issues why ppl argue for text chat box is because in their heads a game genre somehow comes with specific in-game features. The other concern is that at no point was the console said to have text chat but was said to have voice chat. Then the last concern is that seemingly this is only a TESO concern because what ppl are sharing is no different than any other console online game.
What I'm hearing is ppl don't like consoles and how communication is done largely. Yes there are very very few exceptions but...I can't understand why ppl buy stuff and then flood forums to try and make a company change due to buyers remorse.
