How unique is unique?

I have recently acquired two different named items with the "unique" word next to them. How unique is a unique item? Is it only found in my copy of the game? Or is it something very rare? They are only blue in color, so it is not some high end stuff. When I log on later today I can get the names of the items.

I am a named item hoarder, which apparently I don't need to be in this game, especially with the limited storage. So I guess most of the named items can be disassembled, excepting the ones I may use.

Me and my four friends got the same "unique" item so it cannot be that unique.
Not as Technical as you may think.

Unique as in you can't have more than 1. Long time ago I got a unique item from a boss in Glenumbra, later killed him again and he dropped the same item, but I couldn't loot it. You should deconstruct it as soon as possible, so that you don't lose the mats you could've had from another unique drop ;)

... in the balance of power between the accountants and marketing types against the artists, developers and those who generally want to build and run a good game then that balance needs to always be in favour of the latter - because the former will drag the game into the ground for every last bean they can squeeze out of it.Santie Claws
