Which class for solo?

Hey guys
I'm stuck on which class to choose, I like to take my time an explore and really try to experience everything that's on offer.
So I'd like to choose a class which will keep me interested an most importantly alive! I've narrowed it down to Nightblade or Templar, but don't want to put too much time into the wrong class. I'm new to mmo's..... As you can probably tell.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I can't wait to start playing.
Thanks.

To be honest. It doesn't really matter. All classes are fun and can all do everything reasonably well. My advice would be to create one of each. Play them both until around level 8-10 and see which you enjoy more.

I'm not experienced at all in ESO but I have learnt that if you play solo, it's best to play a class that is able to self-heal.

So from what I know Nightblade isn't that good at self-healing. Dragonblade is also good because its so tanky.

My advice, be flexible because things can change quickly in MMOs.
If we tell you play class X because this and that it can be obsolete with the next patch.

Imo the way to go, you need experience or you end up like one of thousand clones out there that still don't know their class.

I'd go Templar, a Magicka based Templar that is! Ultimately it doesn't really matter, though Nightblades tend to be slightly difficult for newer players. As @keybaud said, making one of each class and playing around with them could work, I personally found the Dragonknight to be the easiest class to level up from a questing perspective, but my Templar was also quite smooth.

For solo PVE, out of the 2 you have there, I would go templar. It seems to be a good starter class.

I am leveling up a Sorcerer now though (VR5), and I have to say, once you get the spell hardened ward, it is hard to get killed in PVE content. I can easily solo world bosses, dolmens, public dungeons and their group boss events that don't require more than one to activate.(not bragging, I know several others can too, but for me, sorc. is easy mode for it). Leveling up, I used pets to help solo, but once you get the ward spell, you can handle things easily by yourself.

Anyways, welcome to ESO, it is a fun game to play. Are you playing PC/PS4/or XB1?

Definitely templar. They have good CC and a lot of self healing. Magicka based is my preference but it depends on your play style. You can solo just about anything including public dungeons, dolmens (when you're about 20 plus, for me anyway) and world bosses.

My experience is that Templar is easier than Nightblade. Templar has really good healing and shields, among their class skills and some nifty damage skills, as well. In fact, if you are looking for a challenge, Templar may be too easy and become boring after a while. Then there's the issue of what type of Templar or Nightblade you want to play, stamina or magicka based. There's also type of armor and weapons to consider: For instance: On my stamina based dps NB I use 5 parts medium armor, 2 parts Heavy, dual wield and bow. On my magicka based healer templar its 5 parts light armor, 2 parts heavy, restoration staff and destruction staff. It all comes down to what style of play you prefer. If you're the kind of player who likes to storm in saying "I'm here to kick ass and chew gum. And I'm all out gum", you might like playing a stamina based Templar, wearing mainly (at least 5 parts) heavy armor and swinging a big ass 2 handed sword. If you're more into sneaky mage-assassin style of play a magicka based Nightblade, in mainly light armor, wielding restoration and destructinon staves may be your thing.
In conclusion: My experiance is that Templars have better survivability, but do less damage, than Nightblades.

(Btw: You probably already know this, but dps is an abreviation for Damage Per Second. Many players in ESO also use the term dd, which is short for Damage Dealer. The other 2 "roles" common in most mmo's are Tanks and Healers. Just in case you're wondering.)

I've found Sorc to be a really great starter class.

+Unstable Familiar - Great summon and is a very reliable/solid tank especially early on
+Winged Twilight - Second summon, again works great as a tank and you can even use both
+Mage’s Fury - Excellent finisher as well as restore Magicka
+Crystal Shards - Good Damage as well as Knocks down enemies
+Lightning Form - Good defense buff and the morph even gives speed bonus

+/- Little squishy but you got your summons/tanks with you so that balances it out

At the start I'd say just pump your attributes into Health and you really shouldn't have a problem

Class is only half of it so far as abilities are concerned, remember to choose your primary weapon based on its skill-lines too. Some viable builds can be based almost entirely on weapon skills on your hotbar!

Having identified the preferred class/weapon combo then look at the racial passive abilities to find the best match, and choose the alliance appropriate to the preferred race assuming you haven't unlocked all races/alliances. If you have the option, Imperial is a pretty good race choice for a lot of builds. While the character creation screen gives basic details on racial abilities, you might do better to create a "dummy" character and log in so you can check out those abilities in more detail.

Early on you can just equip the armour that you find without having to worry about balance, but I always have a bit of each type equipped as soon as possible and then work out which to build up according to the character with a view to having 5 pieces of my main type and one each of the others. By type I mean light, medium and heavy. Those sorts of decisions aren't critical early on and are easily changed as you go.

Don't be afraid to mess around with different combinations and re-roll as necessary for the first few days until you're comfortable with that you've got. Be aware, however, that there are time restrictions that affect the number of character deletions you can make.

Above all, ignore any advice that you must do this, or mustn't do that. It's your game, and it's your character. Enjoy  !

It really doesn't matter all too much. This was the first MMO I've ever played, and I started as a NB and had no problem running through the game solo.

I like Templar. Certainly out of the 2 classes you have narrowed it down to, a lot of folks find Nightblade more difficult to play - it can be awesome but it isn't for everyone and that is not a denigration of the class, just looking at the number of people who find nightblades difficult for soloing at first, I think it's just a slightly more difficult class for people coming to ESO from the single player games.

Templar can work really well as any of magicka dps/healer, stamina dps, or tank (although you should pick one of those and stick to it rather than spread your attributes and skills too thin) and to me seems to be a very flexible class with good solo survivablity and self heals. Out of all of them it is the class I would recommend highest to someone coming new to the game and wanting to start out with solo questing without having too many 'L2P' issues.
