Outsourcing

One of the people that left ZoS said this, "Their vision of game was outdated before full on development got started. They decided to outsource most of the work which shows in final product." I believe this is exactly what is hurting the game the most. Every coder I have talked to thru the years say they all do things different and it is hard to go in and understand at times what one coder has done and why.

What do you guys think?

I don't remember the name of the company, but it has been posted on this forum before. Zenimax uses a third party for their patches and distribution.

From those specific reviews, it seems like the biggest issue isn't outsourcing, but management, organization and communication. Additionally ZOS appears to work and feel like a Corporation (that it is) to their employees, distant and rather alien looking closer at profits than the product's quality. To be honest, in this way, it appears they were pressed for time and hired much of the work out to large amounts of newly hired employees then fired them as soon as they were done to finish the product and get it on the market. Given the amount of development time the game had received, they likely overestimated initial profits, rushed the game to reach these profits quicker, and released a game that was plagued with issues stemming from a lack of communication between divisions. The game was designed quickly using quantity, not quality in the end, and pushed the product out the door unpolished, which likely is the cause of many of the issues we see today.

I wouldn't say the effect (outsourcing) of management is what's hurting the game most, it's the cause (poor management).

The source is not empirical. Not to say it is not true, but we have no official way of knowing exactly how many of these were submitted by actual former employees. These reviews do not start until after ESO launched on PC.

A vision starts with leadership, and that seems to be where the problem lay. Seems like a lot of golden egg issues.

Just can't see supporting leadership that acts like this to their employees. Heck we must be even lower than dirt in their eyes then.

Some guy I'm familiar with said he knew some cat who was buds with a dude who's in the know about some fellow who makes decisions.

Well the way we get answers by the leadership you must admit, sounds like the ex-employees are right on the money.

I think these two should be a warning to the playerbase:
    * Income stream was vastly overestimated, company is being propped up by other divisions in corporation, not likely to continue much longer.
    * Company has very poor reputation for quality control due to management's refusal to allow polish time of product, release and subsequent updates have been full of major and minor bugs, further alienating target audience.

yeah, my impression is the same somehow... i think also they ES-franchise sells for itself... maybe that influences the people too (a bit)... also this is the very first MMO for Zenimax and they are making XP ... the game came out with one year delay and in a not complete state... and yeah, i read in that site that there seems to be some "working" problems where a whole lot of energies and potential just gets lost and/or is drained by some other working conditions/situations... some potential/energy just sinks without being given credit...

but as employer Zenimax/Bethesda seem to be a great one....and all the people as well....from that point of view it's great...but the product is suffering a bit , at least ESO...

Lame excuses, they failed so hard to capture what ES-series is all about. I really believe Zen havent even played Skyrim or other ES games, because they were so damn far off. GTA5 sticked to the roots and was biggest entertainment thing ever, what everyone loved, ESO devs decided to go full on troll and no sales. Both series started at the same time in the 90s. What went wrong.

Its almost like they never played an MMORPG as well, because so many things that should be in game with on/off toggles as standard in any genuine AAA game are just not here.

    Its laughable.

It should have been impossible to fail at an ES MMORPG, the fanbase is that big; but Zeni managed it.

It's like the left hand had no clue what the right hand was doing let alone the right and left foot. It all goes to senior management.
