New to tanking

Hi all, I always played simple DPS on other MMOs and I've played healer successfully on ESO but now I have a Nord DK who I want to tank with. I can take a lot of damage as that's not an issue. My only problem is taunting. I can't seem to keep the attention of the boss for very long until he attacks someone else. What skill am I missing to draw him in and keep his attention?

    Puncture from sword and shield line or Inner Fire from Undaunted. Use every 10-15 seconds, be careful not to overtaunt or the enemy will become immune. Some bosses have attacks targeting random players, you can't protect your group from that (other than throwing up Obsidian Shield, I guess), they'll just need to have a high enough health pool to survive.

    turnng the boss awaxy from your group gives them enough time react properly to random attacks.

    Hah, right. I was thinking about direct protection; giving your groupmates time to react still requires them to use their own defenses. But you're right. It's generally a good idea to keep the boss facing away in case of frontal AoEs etc.

    The 'Over Taunt' Mechanic only happens if you taunt the same target 3 times within ten seconds, so you should refresh your taunt every 7-8secs.... it's a lot safer than leaving right down to 15 secs.

    I don't see the point of cutting the duration in half. 10-12 works just fine for me.

    Great way to track your taunts/buffs/debuffs is get an addon if you're on PC. If on consoles.... lets just say I wouldn't be able to keep track by counting in some dungeons.

    Fair enough, but the 10-15 secs you originally suggested may lead to cutting it too close and losing taunt... you only need to lose taunt for a couple of secs to cause a death... in fact, any loss of taunt in a fight like the Warrior or Mantikora will almost certainly cause a death.... best to be safer.

    If the taunt you're using is Puncture or one of its morphs (which it should be most of the time, because IMO it's so much better than the only other taunt in the game) then I prefer to use it every 8-10 seconds. That way you always keep the armour debuff active (its duration is only 12 seconds rather than the 15 second duration of the taunt), and you've got a small safety window in case you need a second or two to break free of an effect or something, so you can pretty much guarantee that the debuff and taunt will both be continuously active without coming close to over-taunting.
