A Templar is the only class that has a skill line dedicated towards healing / shielding / buffing. Every class has access to a restoration staff. By definition a Templar will always come out the most healer oriented if that is their only focus.

I knew that but was wondering about the resto staff skills are they as good or not, and by how much.
Plus i've played the templar a bit and i'm not impressed by their DPS.

    Best:

Templar using his class skill heals AND a resto staff.

The main issue is that for the most part, the Resto staff abilities are heals over time, while Templars get an ability that is one big burst heal, which helps a lot with incoming burst damage and getting the Tank/DPS back in the fight quickly afterwords.

Templar is the best healing class in this game.

No resto staff based build has the "oh sh!t" button that is Breath of Life. Without that, and the Passives that benefit all healing, Templar will always come out on top. That's not to say that other classes can't have decent healer builds, because they can. Sorcs in particular can be built at strong healers, but they will always fall short of a Templar with a comparable build.

Any class can keep a group alive with a resto staff. However, if you're ever grouped with anyone doing stamina DPS, a Templar is absolutely vital. Blazing Spear and Repentance are excellent stamina return skills that make an enormous improvement in sustain. Templars also have the best emergency heal with Breath of life.

Also, don't knock templar DPS, they're capable of a whole lot more than most assume.

Stamina templars do some nice DPS, but magicka templar DPS is meh :D
