I dont understand the classes

Because you can use any weapons and armour, with any stats and skills.. I'm finding it hard to know what I should use.
I looked online and everyone says every class should use health for pve.
doesn't that make healers and archers useless because they use stamina and magicka?

I just find it haphazard. I don't like the.. 'it's up to you' attitude. I like the traditional style rpg s. I'm not good with making choices with stats and stuff and I'd love some guidance.

I have three characters that I switch between because I'm bored of not.knowing what I should do.

Dragonknight with pure health - level 16
Nightblade mainly stamina with some health l - level 6
Templar with nothing yet,

I dont want the best builds but I'd like reccomended builds. I.e where to put stats, what armour and weapons to use, I know some is preferennce but I'd like some sort of guidelines if possible.

Thanks to any who reply.

Hi, its actually pretty simple. Although I am new to the game still I have done a little research on skills and stats myself. It seems the best way to go about is it first to decide which skills on your character you would like to use most. So pick 10 skills that you really like and start there. Next decide which resource pool you would really want to use for your skills. If your liking the magicka skills more then stick with them and start leveling magicka attribute. If some one your original 10 skills you picked are using stamina and your leveling magicka you might want to replace those stamina skills with ones that use magicka now because the formula is simple. Skills that use magicka scale with magicka attribute, spell damage, and spell crit and stamina skills scale with stamina attritbute, weapon damage, and weapon crit. Thats pretty much the basics. Give the game some time and as you get a better understanding of the game you will see how fun the class system can be. Also don't be afraid to experiment you can respec all your attribute and skills.

On that note I wouldn't level purely magicka or stamina you do need to balance either stat with health unless your doing a very specific build but for now thats how you should start. Hope this helps!

Yeah, I guess it wouldn't be so bad if we could see our damage output, to see if what we do differently makes a difference fr the previous build.
I guess I'll tinker aeoundd and see what happens, thanks for the reply.
Wouldn't be so bad if there was more coommunicayiom in game, I hate hassling the forums for small things.. ><

This game is built around theory crafting. It requires a basic skill in maths with a large helping of creativity, there are no 'rails' in your progression. It's up to you to decide what style you want to play and this is the best part of the game.

Oh and there is no 'should'

    .

The all points into health meta ended some time ago. At the moment most people will go either heavy stamina or heavy magicka unless tanking.

The promise of ESO classes was that each class could fulfill each of the 3 standard trinity roles and have multiple options in doing so. Ar the launch this was true and it still is to an extent the option have become limited though.

In order for us to give you any suggestion you must tell us what role you want to fill and with what class you want to do that.

For leveling up though I do recommend in trying up everything haphazardly and figuring out the capabilities of your class as a whole.

Well, my dragonknight would ideally be a tanking, dos hybrid, more so tanking and pve.
my nightblade so far has 5 in stamina and 1 in health and will be my PvP, so I'm not sure gown to balance the stats there.

I typically do an attribute dump into one pool. For stam builds, it's stam, magicka builds magicka, tanks it's health. The reason for this is that at endgame, the current meta is:

    Tanks - 25k+ HP
    DPS/Heals - ~20k HP

To achieve that, it doesn't really matter where you place anything, so long as those stats are achieved (with food running). If you don't have the above, group members might ask you to eat food or change stats. Armor enchants and item sets are good ways to make up stats you don't have, though. As an example, my Templar tank/healer can go from ~30k health as tank to ~20k as healer with a simple change of clothes, despite having all attribute points in health. Plus, as healer my max magicka goes up, magicka regen triples, etc. You get the idea.

Check out Deltia's Gaming on Youtube if you want some inspiration on where to put points and builds to try. Also, as the others in this thread have stated, when you're starting out, you should be putting points in everything, experimenting with things. Typically, I do the same thing. Then at VR1, when I've usually figured out my build and skills, I respec my points.

In ESO each class can be tank, dps or healer (rolls) but some classes are better in some roles than others.

The roll you want to play determines how much health, magicka and stamina you need.

    magicka dps: sorc, DK, NB
    stamina dps: DK, NB, Temp
    tank: DK, Temp, NB
    healer: Temp, NB

    Septimus Rulanir - Orsimer Templar

    Septimus Thragar - Dunmer Nightblade
    Septimus Jah'zar - Khajiit Nightblade
    Septimus Nerox - Redguard Warden

I've just started out with a High Elf knight blade with Archery as my main weapon.
Now I've read I might have chosen Wood Elf instead for their bonus. Any advice on keeping my character or dump him for an alternative?

Bosmer just gain levels in the bow skill line faster, which means nothing once you've got it maxed to 50 anyway. The other difference is that Altmer racial passives are geared towards magicka, while Bosmer racial passives are geared towards stamina. Someone using a bow as the primary weapon will usually go more towards a stamina build, but not necessarily. If you're going with mostly class abilities based on magicka, then being an Altmer is better for that anyway. And frankly, unless you're doing real competitive endgame stuff, the racials don't matter too much.

I am surprised this hasn't been stated yet, but in ESO the weapon you wield determines what role you perform, not class.

Want to tank? 1H + Shield
    Heal? Restoration staff
    anything else is DPS.

Another thing to remember is that most weapon skills scale off Stamina.
The staves (Destruction and Restoration) use Magicka.

Class skills use Magicka on the whole, however there are now some Morphs that change some skills to use Stamina instead.

So if you want to use primarily Class skills, focus on Magicka. Weapon skills, focus on Stamina.

Tanks will use mostly Health, but that is primarily endgame content. You can put 50/50 into Health and another stat levelling up and tank just fine.

Edit: some classes synergize pretty well with roles (aka the Templar Magicka Healer)

You can respect attributes for a reasonable amount of gold in the capital city of your second zone, so go ahead and do what you think feels right for you.

You can always change your mind later.

You can also respect skills, but those get a bit more expensive.

Greetings @UrQuan and the others; thank you very much for great answers and helping me in my consideration.
I will keep my high elf and make him a great archer and throw in healing skills for my surroundings and myself.

    Live long and prosper
(think that fits in this universe as well:)
