Trying to use something different

I've always loved the lore behind TES and it is my favorite RPG franchise. However, I've found with each installment that I always lean towards the sword and shield tank.

The main reason for this is the other builds left a lot to be desired on console. Either Mages were too weak or the assassin builds did not scale well with higher levels. I just never left my comfort zone.

Now I'm making myself do something different with ESO. I've built a NB dual wield wood elf and a Breton sorcerer. I'm still getting use to these character builds but I'm still not comfortable. Mainly I'm worried I'll waste skill points for these builds on trees that aren't worth it.

Anything I should avoid with these while I'm getting acclimated? I feel the Daedra tree isn't that great but I'm clueless on the rest.

I know I'm over thinking this but I have little time to invest in the game as I travel weekly for work.

First. This type and sta NBs in general are the exact types that anyone wanting to be an unique snowflake chooses to build. Considering that the vast majority of a the population wants to be an unique snowflake the sta dw NB is probably the most often encountered build in the game. If you truly want to be different maybe try an Orc Sporc.

For the second question. There are more than 300 skill points that you can get in the game(more than enough for multiple builds + crafting) and you can respec at any time. There is no risk of wasting points anytime soon for you. So do not avoid anything and experiment with different stuff from the start. Respec when you need to try new stuff.
if you really interested in end game min/maxing go read up on builds on others site on the internet .Tamriel foundry for example.

Thank you. I'm enjoying my sorcerer build right now. Never played an Elder Scrolls game as a pure Mage.

I'm finding it a bit more difficult but with each level I feel like I'm getting better.

My only concern is there is so much content. That's great but I found myself just roaming around for about an hour gathering resources to make gear. I think I'm going to enjoy getting my crafting ability up.

    Hi,

Firstly the daedric tree has the best shield in the game, as a sorc this is VITAL,
I dont like pets but while levelling i found them to help alot,

What you need to remember as a sorc is that you want to wear 5 of more pieces Light armour for the magicka passives they give, which means you are very vulnerable,

Magic shields are your best friend, Conjure ward morphed to hardened ward gives you almost DOUBLE your health,

Daedric curse together with mages fury and crystal frags have incredible damage when used together,

my advice is before you go too much further go do a youtube search for ESO Sorcerer Builds,
Check dates of videos, older stuff in incomplete, Look at PARFAX build, Deltia's Gaming and the likes,

You will see the skillls they use..

Sorcerer is the strongest class in pvp, Huge damage, with shield stacking and the correct rotations nobody will even damage your health.

I wouldn't worry too much about screwing up a build. This is the first time ever that I play a healer and I have almost no idea what I am to do. I know that my main objective is to keep everyone alive. Other than that, I am just going to do my research on the skill lines and play it by ear.
