Possible Bug: Molten Weapon and Lightning Staff

Doesn't seem to increase heavy attacks....

Any idea why?

Works fine for Flame staff. I'm hitting roughly around 7k, and with Molten enabled I can have 10k or so.

Lightning staff, however, hits multiple "pulses" for the heavy, and my pulse is around 1.6k. If I hit Molten Weapons, that number doesn't change. My DPS (checked with FTC) does not change at all.

Anybody else tested this?

@ZOS_GinaBruno is there a known bug?

Thank you all,

    The only thing I can think of is;

Most "beam" type of attacks count as a DoT (Soul Assault, Jesus Beam, etc.). So, maybe the code dosn't see it as being a heavy attack but a DoT.

Question; does all ticks of damage do the same amount or does the last tick do bonus damage? I think it only counts the last tick as the actual heavy attack. Same as with a resto staff.

Lightning staff canalized attack cannot crit or improve with buff, so I'm not surprised. But I don't know if it's a bug or intended ; I hope it's a bug, because lightning staff are nearly useless because of that.

all ticks do the same amount. even the last one.

or, to be correct, i zapped an NPC 26 times all of exact amount.... only the animation looks a little different every... i dunno... sitxh zap? or fifth?

    i agree.

i kinda like lighting since its AoE and u can zap someone who's running away at least once or twice, unlike flame that if u miss it, u miss it completely.

Lightning heavy attack does 3 ticks AND a shock pulse that finalizes the fully charged attack. I tested this and the shock pulse DID scale with igneous/molten buff. The pulse is also able to crit, where the plain heavy attack ticks can not. The aoe (tri-focus) gains more damage too. Recount etc. separate the shock heavy attack damage to 2 rows (heavy attack and shock pulse) which probably adds to the unpopularity of shock as many do not realize the pulse is part of heavy attack dmg.

Resto staff does not have a separate end pulse but 3 ticks only and the igneous buff applies on the last tick. Both channeling staves effectively gain very little from the buff, as it is only applied to approximately one third of the dmg only. Resto at least gains a little more to the passive healing from essence drain, however still not very meaningful numbers.

weird. i'm using FTC to record, and going against some v12 mob using ONLY heavy attacks, i counted 24 - 26 ticks, and they're all the same number. Then i make sure Molten buff is up the WHOLE TIME and i still see the exact same damage....

Yeah, OK. I see it now.

Guess I've been picking too short of a fight.

Grab a couple lightning atronach and ran the numbers again: you're right. there's a big pulse at the end and THAT pulse is increased by Molten damage.

However, due to the fact there are a few "ignored" pulses, the "overall" DPS of heavy attacks were not increased by 40%.

See below for some of the most consistent fights.....

    Lightning - with Molten

Now compare to Flame damage without pulses....

    Flame - without Molten

    Flame - with Molten
    wM9qhKv.png

    To recap:
Lightning stick: pulses around 1.5k, with big pulse once every 5th time 2.5k = total of 8.5k.
with Molten Weapon: pulses stays the same, but big pulse goes up to 3.6k - 4.2k (which is about 40-60%) = 10 - 10.5k.
    Molten gives 17% - 23% increase. Let's say 25% possible.

    Flame stick: about 9k.
    with Molten Weapon: 13k.
Molten gives 44% possible, perhaps 40% to be safe.

    That's a big difference.

Moral of the story: Lightning staff user, don't bother with Molten Weapon.........
