is it possible to play a vampire tank?

yes I know fire weakness ARGGGGGG

however I am really interested if this is possible

the biggest thing it comes down to are do the benefits outweigh the fire weakness and if we devote slots (enchants) to combatting that weakness are we worse off?

right now my tanks jewelry is all slotted with stamina cost reduction for obvious reasons, as it helps with bringing block cost, roll doge cost, skill cost, and break free cost all down. I would need to replace at least one of these with fire resistance MAYBE, more on that now!

fire resist vs spell resist. I cannot find info on how these work with each other and to the best of my ability I think that total mitigation is capped at a possible 50% and that if you are hit with say a fire spell you would use which ever is higher (spell resist or fire resist) to mitigate the damage, if that's the case then I would not need to invest in fire resist and my magic resist is almost capped (around 45%) from being a tank

please correct that if I am wrong

vamp perks strictly from a tanking perspective:

-resource management, vamp gives 10% to both spell and feat cost reduction, solid.
-low hp damage reduction, while as a tank you should never be in the position of being at low health stuff does happen and this could prevent a possible death.
-ult might be useful, I don't know how the invis works against mobs and devouring might be nice for large pulls thanks to the hp return.
-mist form maybe, if something happens to the healer and you need to buy time, also last I checked HoT effects seem to persist while in mist form, though this could have changed, on my NB I used to funnel health and mutagen before misting to get health back.

big downsides
-lack of hp regen, all your healing is going to be from heals with no passive healing, maybe not a big deal with healers that you should have.
-fire weakness. . .ARGGGGGG

I was tanking as a Vamp with my DK for a few months before 1.6 dropped and it was fine. The real reason I used vamp at all was for PVP, but Vamp DK in PVP got way too much QQ from the community and hit pretty hard with the Nerf Hammer. I found it fine in most PVE content, but that build never made it's way into vDSA or HRC.... I'd imagine you'd run into some trouble in the end game content.

Health regen is not that important IMO, almost all groups will have a healer and as a tank you will have your own skills for self sustain.

What Class are you wanting to try this on?

it would be very hard on boss fights with lots of fire damage. i also would recommend being dark elf if that's something you really want to do and put all attribute points in hp.

honestly, i'd hate to be your healer though!

EDIT: also, class choicewise, maybe go templar for some help with self healing, rune focus and other abilities to help your healer keep you alive.

    this is on a DK

I have tanked for all vet pledges and have a dedicated temple healer in my group, we have yet to attempt DSA but I hear its pretty fun though the fire can be horrid if your a vamp.

we have neither the group nor interest in doing trials, and I do pvp with this character (all armor, weapon, and skill lines maxed and capable of switching between all of the on the fly)

With Coagulating Blood as an Oh S*** healing option and a bit of caution around fire based Mobs, I don't see why you can't be a vamp.... the extra magicka recovery is a definite upside for DK tanking.

An example of a Boss fight with a tonne of fire damage is Bogdan (vEH)... all of his damage is Fire, even the stomp... for this fight your bar should be something like -1 Dragon Blood -2 Pierce Armor -3 Igneous Shield -4 Harness Magicka -5 Defensive Stance -U Magma Armor.... you'll need 20k+ magicka to make this setup effective, but the Harness will give you enough mag to keep both shields and dragonblood active at all times. I have run this boss with lot's of Vamps, the noob ones get owned, but the good ones have no worries at all because they take the necessary precautions.

I've healed a vamp tank in vet CoA, so I assume you can do almost everything (maybe apart from vet DSA endboss) as vampire tank. But keep in mind that even though it's possible many fights will be harder and last longer than with a normal tank.
