Templar - Fun with Charges

I spent my morning trying to duplicate this:

On the Templar megathread, I speculated I was facing a 2Hander at the time. I'm sorry, I guess it wasn't a 2Handed attack that locked Explosive Charge's animation; who would have thought a light 1H sword attack would d the trick.

I came close, but failed to replicate it. Every fight was like this:

EC would glitch a couple times, during every prolonged fight when I was circle strafing and trying to line up my charge. I'm not exaggerating, literally every fight with multiple mobs, where I was trying to push the ability, I would see animation glitches and/or the ability not fire. Total run was 45 minutes - I would estimate about 50+ glitches in that time or 50% of my total charges.

So I switched to Shielded Assault and within two minutes (45 seconds to be exact) got stuck in animation when a pebble got between me and a mob.

Shielded Assault still glitched when pushed, but not as nearly often as EC. The experience with Shielded Assault was better than Explosive Charge. Even though, I got stuck, it was easy to recover - just blocked and I was free (no potion needed) and ability felt more responsive and easier to chain attacks off of.

Advice for charges - don't push the targeting envelope. Keep the target lined up in the middle of your view. Watch out for pebbles.

I should have tried Critical Charge, but I suspect all charges have issues working correctly you can just barely target a mob/player.

    Did you lock on atany point with cycle target?

    It has done that to me since the game was release without change. Stopped using any charge abilities and puncture strike because of it. I like dotting them at range and letting them run to me dieing wile I blast them with range attacks anyway. They usually dead by the time they get to me.

    No I didn't.

    Well, not until I tried Critical Rush and saw your post. I was going to write that Critical Rush worked flawlessly compared to the other two charges - until I got stuck in animation at the very same spot as I did with Shielded Assault. Just like Shielded Assault it was an easy clear - block.

    Against tab-targeted mobs I only experienced one minor animation glitch and I know the target corners were not filled at the time - so just outside of the rectangle.

    To be honest what I saw this morning seemed similar to the Reflecting Light video @Cinbri posted a while ago, or like @Soris pointed out with RD's target moving out of range. Instead of the target obscured by terrain or moving out of range, I lost the target, due to angles, before the game could execute the attack and that glitched the charge animations.

    It's as if the game has two different targeting systems - one where you can certainly hit a mob and another where you may hit a mob.
