Templar: Would you want Blinding Flashes back, and what would you replace it with if so?

Edgar_Baerland
Given the recent Templar skill changes discussion, I figured I'd open this idea up for it's own sake.

Voted for Javelin because Aedric Spear skill line is meant to be tanking and and CC. That would make sense.
I'm still hoping Healing Ritual could be changed into some more useful form such as over time heal or something else.
Backlash is nice skill and it will be useful when they remove the GCD on it.

Also I would gladly trade it with Radiant Destruction but in reverse, just to make every whiners shut up for a while. And I don't really like that skill honestly.

I voted Backlash, because I never liked how it worked and even after losing the cast time it's still clunky to use and doesn't really improve DPS.

Well, ofc give us back this great skill (even with some changes on its mechanic). But i don't want it to replace Javelin, if zos will grant it root ability, javelin will be great skill.

FWIW I voted Healing ritual, because I honestly never see that skill used in PVP or PVE. It probably is the least used class skill in the game.

Healing Ritual, because every other skill I have unlocked and found it useful for a given situation. Ritual, though, will remain forever locked as long as it is the way it is.

Not only "yes", but "Hell Yes!". And my victim for replacing it would be Eclipse, because it doesn't work on elite mobs (or any random mob the debs decide it shouldn't work on) and the skill seems to get worse the more ZOS tries to fix it.

Piercing Javeling is great for CC away from Cyrodiil - if I wasn't a bow user I would probably use it more.

Backlash is good for PvE although despite what ZOS says, I think the Purifying Light morph is broken.

I will use Healing Ritual every now and then when I feel like healing - Stam Temp here. Lingering Ritual is nice for helping heal people who storm the breaches in Cyrodiil. My heals being relatively weak, though - I could give it up.

Stamina templars might use the Javelin? Otherwise I would have gone for that.

Purifying Light is decent for magicka builds in PvE (but I know the stam morph sucks).

Healing Ritual is still the worse skill in the game, it kills your own allies. So have to go for that one. It actually needs to be removed. Some new templar healers insists on slotting it, than everyone dies because the healer needs close range and 2 seconds to cast.

Never used blinding light myself, or backlash for that matter. So don't really have an opinion on bringing it back. But everyone voting javelin can go... get the front door. Javelin is one of, if not the strongest functional CC currently in the Templar arsenal. (Make of that what you will.)

Before they started tweaking things, I could solo any boss with it who could be knocked back. And I've knocked so many players off walls, including interrupting a soul assault and that one time the other guy did the same to me at the same time. If you want a largely useless skill to replace, the new restoring aura is a prime candidate.

While I agree Javelin has its uses, I think Magnum Shot is much better and cheaper for stamina builds. And for magicka builds, there is Luminous Shards for single target CC/disorient and it is also unblockable and cheaper + has same range as Javelin.
Javelin is only good for pushing people off the cliffs who are pity enough to drop block.

I would like to have it back. However, I know that it isn't coming back. It wasn't just a Templar nerf. They took reducing your enemy's hit chance out of the game. The DK ability that did that was changed as well. There are abilities that reduce your target's chance to hit you, but no ability reducing that general hit chance anymore that I am aware of.

I'd settle for a decent AoE root being added as a new ability or attached to another currently useless ability like solar barrage.

Shards is more unwieldy to use in the heat of battle because you need to double tap to set it off and lead your target. I usually need to spam and hope for the best. It would be a better skill for groups if it would stun even just one more enemy.

Personally I would rather binding be the magick morph and aurora be the stamina, but with a bigger increase to damage.

Yeah, definitely agree. The poll might be better named with "Something Like Blinding Flashes", but I think the premise is the same. With Flashes went our only AoE CC, which other classes still have.

And thats why they can return this ability but change in same way as NB Blur - giving you doddge chance. Also they can change one of Eclipse morph for this purpose. Red sphere round - NB means dodge buff, in same way black sphere (or shadows form Total Dark morph that became useless visual after it's morph change) could mean visible dodge buff on templar.

I have a V14 Nb and a V14 Templar. Blur isn't a bad ability, but I am not really impressed by it enough to want a Templar version of it given that the Major Evasion doesn't stack with the Medium Armor Evasion. Honestly, if Templar had Blur I probably wouldn't waste a skill point in it given that Evasion has better morphs. If we are going to get a new defensive/support ability to replace blinding flashes, I'd take a Templar version of Mass Hysteria, Talons, Bolt Escape, or anything that is actually useful over Blur.

Yes, dodge chance is not as good as Flashes. But if zos will change Total Dark morph into this, they could add - each dodge proc also healing for same amount as Total Dark healing now ;) . It will make templars super tanky.

It wasn't really the miss percentage that made Blinding Flashes good it was the cc - "off balance" on top of it.

There's no standard debuff for reducing speed either, but several abilities have that effect - Caltrops, Ash Cloud, to name a couple. ZOS could always add the percent to miss back to the game for one ability.

Let's look at disabling effects and how many templars can apply:
    - Knockdown, nope; sorc and dk
    - Stunned, yes Toppling Charge, but we really stun ourselves thanks to our GCD
    - Off-balance/Vulnerable, not anymore; was Blinding Flashes
    - Disorient, no sorc
    - Silence, no sorc
    - Fear, no NB
    - Pull, no DK
    - Knockback, we the kings of Knockback; Puncturing Strikes and Piercing Javelin.

I don't know of any other way to say it. They specifically stripped applying increased miss chance from the game on purpose not just Templar just like they removed increasing potion effectiveness. Every ability that applied it was changed. I really don't see them adding it back after going through the trouble of changing all abilities that did it.

Though, I agree entirely that we could use more disabling effects, I just think that arguing for anything like blinding flashes back is a waste of time after they specifically removed the effect from the game entirely. It would be more effective to argue for something that has a chance of actually happening.

I could go for a heal on dodge. Though, I really don't need an ability that is almost identical to evasion. I'd much prefer a AoE soft CC that doesn't apply cc immunity or an escape.

No, I don't want blinding flashes back.
I would prefer a universally applicable skill, like a stamina DoT that is not a bleed. That would be effective everywhere - PvP, group PvE, solo PvE, bosses, trash mobs, etc. Blinding Flashes was nice, but niche, and lots of NPCs were immune to it. Templars do not need another support skill that is only good in limited situations.

Sorry forgot about that and I shamelessly stole the affects from an old post from April 2014. I always hated how Blazing Spear stun works. It always seemed to stun the one mob out of three that I was charging just after activating the BS. If the stun was only AoE.

Senior Scout Justal in the Lion's Den still has an ability that procs the miss mechanic. It's not a dodge, but it is very similar to blinding flashes - once you miss, you'll keep missing for a period of time - next 4 to 5 attacks. if this was dodge you would score hits between dodges. Even though, he isn't a major boss in the public dungeon, he was my toughest fight when I last visited him four weeks ago, thanks to this ability.

Yes and the Templar boss in Vet DSA still has blinding flashes as well. I am talking about players not NPCs. In the latest ESO live ZOS said they did not update NPCs.

All I can say it look at it from a logical viewpoint. If they went through the trouble of removing this effect from all player abilities, it gives the impression that they really really don't want players applying a miss chance to others players right? Wouldn't it make more sense to lobby for something they haven't already demonstrated that they don't like?

i totally forgot about blinding flashes. didn't even realize they took it out as i quit when they changed vet cap to 14 and came back after free to play. the javelin was the replacement?

also, i like (and use) healing ritual (ritual of rebirth) because it's such a big heal. only reason i don't use it all the time is because healing becomes a bit too easy and boring if i do.
