You should have enough health to survive boss aoes that you can't escape. Depending on your armour, skills and champion points you'll be fine with about 18k health at vr14.

20 k with blue food and without emperor bonus is almost necessary in most case.

I don't know any situation you need more than 18/19k health :)

When the heal do some dps and can't instantly heal you. Sometime you take 16-17k damage (flame traits, mage's meteor, mantikora's body slam…) and die in a second with a dot or an another hit. With 18k, my teammate died a numerous of time in Sanctum or vet DSA, with 20k they often end with 2% of their life.
It's a commodity, with 18k you avoid os but not multi-hit. If you are good, you can avoid multi hit, but it's hard.

you are right, more health is saver. But since I wear one heavy + medium armor peace and a nirnhorned staff I feel very save too :)

I agree with the other posters, 18k with blue food and no emp buff is the minimum you should be going for if you are planning to do endgame stuff. With Entropy on my main bar my sorc has 20,134 I think right now (it goes up with champion points into the warrior trees), so I am thinking about switching a couple of attribute points from health into magicka pretty soon.

20k gives you a nice little buffer in case you lag or get unlucky with some CC or big hits. But with practice and good reflexes you can easily get away with 18k on most content.

It also depends on your class a little. With my sorc I have Hardened Ward available so I'll throw that up on fights with big aoes or if I draw aggro from a lot of trash. So you also have to consider the strengths of your class when setting your final HP target.

Pfft. Noobs. You should have no more than 1 HP. Ever. If you're not so weak that a light summer breeze would cause you to disintegrate and scatter your ashes to the four corners of the world, then you're not doing enough DPS. MUST HAVE TEH DEEPS!!!1!!11!!

As low as possible without dying ;-). For the start 20k with buff food is ok, when you are more experienced you can go down.

As sorc im currently playing with nearly zero HP investment (only torugs pact 3-bonus, no glyph/stat). With blue V10 buff-food and emp bonus I still reach 17k. My Hardened Ward is above 15k, this way I feel even more defensive than before while having a huge mana pool. I did vet CoA deathless 2times that way, so I think it's quite solid.

No more than 18.2k (With Blue Food)
You should survive everything with this considering you invest Champion Points in The Lady.
    Sorcerer Master Class.
    PC Master Race.

    Bottom line is :

This question is impossible to answer as is, since it depends on :
    - Your build (magicka ? stamina ?) and thus your armor type ;
    - Your playstyle (melee ? range ? more a sniper or a dodger ? are you good at blocking at the right time and escaping the zones ?)
    - Your class (some classes have more self-protection or self-heal than others)
    - The type of content you want to run (PvP ? PvE ? Grouped ? solo ?) and the setup of the groups you run with (some trial groups run with 1 healer in which case you need more health, some groups run with 3 healers in which case you need more DPS thus less health)
    - Your gear and glyphs, and associated mitigation and resistances
    - Your champion points and where you spent them
    - Your skill bar choices (bound armor ? siphoning spells ? self-heal capabilities ? or pure DPS burst ?) and associated passives
    - Type of potions used
    - Whether you need tri-stat food or just two-stat, or if you use drinks

    Etc etc.

Given all these variables I believe that anything below 15K health is too low for PVE end game content and anything above 23K health is probably wasted. Dunno about PvP.

NB : do not listen too much to "advice" given by people who don't even ask you for more details about your build : they will tell you what works for them, and that might not work for you.

NB2 : don't make your build rely on pvp campaign buffs. These are unreliable and can disappear right in the middle of a raid. Happened to me more than once.

what would you like people to answer? like; "heya, pls tell us you're build, class and race and we will give you an exact nr for your HP" ?

by asking this questing, he will get a general idea of how much HP other DD's are running with. So he can get try and slightly adjust his attribute points to his own "comfort zone".

Tho you're are right about some things you mentioned in your post, I still think this thread has value for him.
