Build Advice?

c.p.garrett1993_ESO
Imperial - Templar
This is my first play and I want to know how viable this is in the long run.
Attempting a tank/ healer hybrid. Heavy armor with focus in health & magic.
Abilities focused on healing and multi-target and/ or AOE attacks. How viable is this endgame? Will I be able to run with this into the later parts of the game? It seems pretty useful when dealing with groups solo or or as a support role in a group but not so good at dealing with a single, strong enemy.

This wasn't planned at all. It just sort of came about as I was leveling. Could be completely useless for all I know.

I know one person right now that is a tanky healer magicka templar. His name is @Blabafat! but i highly doubt he will tell you his build. But if you need advice ask him.

I don't want to have somebody tell me how to make the build, that's the fun part. If I have to respec everything down the road I will. I just want to know if it's viable or if I'm wasting my time.
Thank you for the info, though. :)

I've been building a similar character, though I lean more towards healing then tanking.

I couldn't tell you how my build fairs with the endgame because I'm still leveling this character, but I've managed to tank and heal pug groups when the tank D/Cs or whatever. My DPS isn't anything to brag about but I typically can hold aggro on a boss and keep everyone relatively healthy.

Dunno if this helps but I definitely think it is worth looking into. Worst case scenario, you have a character you can divert into solely healing or tanking.

Nope, plenty helpful. It doesn't answer the endgame question but it definitely lets me know it's viable for a little longer. I'm still haven't even hit level 10. Only have time for a couple hours a day.

You can have a lot of fun with a Templar tank/heal hybrid. For trials (12 man raids) you would probably need to focus on one role, but for the rest of the game it will be fine. In veteran dungeons the bosses will just melt when you can take 3 dps with you.
For PvP it is also a good idea to be able to defend yourself as a healer.

Not sure about the damage side of it. I do know that at least two PvE healer tank templars, for many vet dungeon bosses, can afford three DDs and kill faster.

imperials have good racial stats for tanking (ie. health bonuses). as with any class you play in this game, you can easily fill two roles with the right gear (one set per role).

i've not done much tanking on my templar but i do a lot of healing. for healing, i have my full light armour gear focusing on magicka regen where i can with restoration staves in both slots. i am V8 as i just came back to the game after free to play and even with gear that's not really great, i have no problem healing vet dungeons (it's a challenge but i'm up to the task).

in solo content, i run with 5 heavy pieces and 2 light. the only world boss i wasn't able to solo was a particularly tough one in the v7 zone but every other content that's not a group instanced dungeon, i've soloed on my own.

while your race choice may not be the "optimal" for healing, i see no reason why you can't be just as good as my breton except for maybe not having that extra ~3% more magicka or w/e

    TLDR:

    - use light armour with resto staff for healing, heavy armour for tanking, PvP, grinding
    - yes, your race/class is viable. just adapt for the role you are called in for and have the right gear and skill setup

    also, "l2p".

tips and tricks like tapping a light attack in before biting jabs (or other spell) when grinding on mobs to add dps. always using a heavy attack with resto staff when not casing a healing spell if you're the healer. a full heavy attack with a resto staff restores magicka. etc. etcl.

I presume the restoration staff is considerably more effective than the default abilities but I intend to stick to those so that I can focus on dealing/ taking more damage myself with the classic sword & shield.
I was thinking of switching to dual wield or a 2h for my second weapon(s) so I can alternate on weaker enemies and get more DPS.
Essentially the healer role is secondary in this concept, focusing more on being able to take things head and providing group healing as needed. Focusing points into magic would allow me to use the healing abilities more and make up for some of what is lost from not using a staff.

Thank you for the advice though. It's greatly appreciated and will help regardless of which I choose to focus more into.
