NB tank assistance.

So Nearly being level 40 and I'm not sure if I am doing things correctly on my NB. So far all the groups I have been in have gone well. No wipes and the few times anyone has died was due to being new to the run. ^^; (myself included). So whatever I am doing seems to be working I suppose. But i'd love ot hear what others have been doing or trying out. I also wanted to ask if I should bother keeping vampire or not >_> I'm not really fond of it but it seems like it could be useful for tanking. Though I could be very wrong. ^^;

Vampire isn't very good for tanking. The increased fire damage, which there is a lot of in PvE, you take is too much end game. Most players who tank prefer Werewolf because of the passive Stamina Regen.

I wouldn't put too much into your success right now. Non Vet dungeons are pretty easy, especially >40. I think most people who like the idea of a NB gravitate towards avoidance tanking. The double dodge buff at 40% with Evasion+Blur is pretty significant, you're dodging almost every other attack and they both have nice long durations.

I'd say if you're a NB tank you should have 2 weapon+gear sets. Double sword and board for dungeons to maximize survivability, and something like a sword+shield and a bow for doing other stuff. Then have your dungeon gear set focused on survival obviously, and go for max damage with the other. I enjoy the tanky play style of a NB a lot, but I stick with the "Ravager" style build.

It's nice to see other builds for the NB, be it viable or not for the end game. A tank NB is really cool, using the shadows as a form of help in mitigating damage and using self heals to boost the healing capacity of the healer, reducing the need to heal to frequently and can dual focus on damage as well.

    Shielded Assault,
    Mirage,
    Shadow Image,
    Defensive Stance,
    Pierce Armor

Soul Tether ( i still prefer this over Soul Siphon but its really up to your gameplay )

    Mirage
Ambush ( for the stun though Lotus Fan is useful for snaring enemies, either one is good for the build )
    Power Extraction
    Mass Hysteria
    Deep Slash

Bolstering Darkness ( i use this as a support to the healer or range dps )

First bar is my go to bar for bosses and more survival moments. The stun that the ultimate does gives me a few precious moments for the healer or myself to heal up, either from pots or otherwise. Its purely about controlling one main enemy while the party goes for the rest of the mobs.

Second bar is all about controlling the fight and giving the group a chance to heal up with the ultimate and also using Ambush / Lotus Fan as an escape. Being mobile is the key here but do watch your area lest you grab more mobs than intended.

all in all, it seems solid and i usually use this for my NB tank. granted, its only low level but its working so far. Hope this helps!

Evasion and Blur both provide the same Major Evasion buff, and as such they do not stack. The only thing that stacks is the secondary effects (snare immunity from shuffle and speed boost/armor from blur morphs).

I did a write up on TF on my Knightblade Tank build http://tamrielfoundry.com/2015/03/featured-build-knightblade/ I've done most all the content in the game with it (except serpent - haven't had a big enough group to do it yet) but it works great for everything so far.

Just a question, did you finished dragonstar arena vet with this build?

Was kinda expecting someone to tell me NO DK is better tank. My friend keeps drilling that into my head but being so close to the vet levels it seems silly to give up the effort =/ even if I have to change to a different spec or something..

Also really rather glad that Vampire isn't a good choice .. xDI was hating on the fact my poor Dunmer looked like I dropped him into a bag of flour haha. Also the fact he had a fight with the eyeliner bottle if you get past stage 1. >_>; Sadly I am gonna have to stick it out a bit longer to get the dye unlock. xP bah.

I do have the same question if that build linked is solid for Vet runs. I haven't gotten to those levels yet but I know my husband.. when we get there we'll have to do the runs. He's one of those dungeon holics. >w<; I just know I have a friend who's done the Vet stuff and he keeps telling em a NB can't tank them >_> and I'm stubborn so I'm determined to prove him wrong ..Dx or least try to.

Let me just get this out of the way, TELL YOUR FRIEND THAT A NIGHTBLADE CAN ABSOLUTELY TANK VETERAN DUNGEONS. I would be more than happy to provide any amount of video to prove it.

With that build i was able to tank every dungeon as nb. I had no problems also in city of ash; now I would like some advice for tanking in last stage of DSA ( hardest boss to tank in the game )

    Btw sorry for bad english

Also I'd love vids but they'd be for my gain and not to prove my friend wrong >w< i'll do that myself.. hehehe.. I think he's still stuck to where DK's were the only viable class or thats what he told me.. I dunno I played beta left the game and came back only recently to be very happy with the changes >_>

There are a number of ways you can do it on a Nightblade. The build I use is fairly similar to the knightblade build. My friend who is also a Nightblade tank uses shadow image with the split strat to get back to the healers range and so he doesn't have to heal and move.

In VDSA The most important thing is timing. whether it's moving the boss for the split, killing the adds (flame summoners) in time, or any number of the little things that could go wrong, it's best to know what's going to happen when, and how to manage it.

    :D

Yea, sounds like he's clinging to some old and untrue prejudice. DKs have always been good tanks, but they have never been the only class capable. Holding nothing against him :) just pointing it out I guess...

Ok, I have no videos of my own atm, so you can't see it from my perspective... But there are a few videos out there where I and some others are tanking. I will make some vids tho :)

@heroofnoneb14_ESO has some videos with me or a few other of our nightblade tanks tanking (and I hopefully will be tanking for him tonight and through the week if you want to stop by his stream and ask questions.) http://www.youtube.com/heroofnone and

Here's a casual run with 3 nightblades and a DK healer... Not our best moments... and it looks like this is the time when I was reinventing my build. It was a loooong time ago... But we have nightblade tank, and DK heals. Even if there are a few deaths... https://youtu.be/wbORowuppno that last boss... XD

And here's that same nightblade tank doing a weaponless run... http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/142064/dungeon-dwellers-present-no-weapon-veteran-crypt-of-hearts

Anyways, just some things to check out. And I will be making my own.

Thank you thank you for the vids ^^ and yeah he is kinda biased.. xD his answer is DK for everything hehe. We forgive him :P Of course he also says a mage does poor damage.. given I am always grouped with my husband's character >_> I know that is a lie cause I almost never have to attack things (or get the chance to) when we quest haha..

I will be checking them out for sure ^^ have been very much enjoying the tanking aspect of this game. So use to the mmo world and having to hold EVERYTHING this is a nice change of pace.

If Shunravi stayed up later I'd have more videos of NBS tanking =3

As for vampire, it can be a hindrance without proper flame resistance jewelry and points in the champion system, however folks over play the fire damage part. Shield absorb stops a lot of incoming fire damage and heals you, and you should stay out of the red regardless. Vampires just learn early on not to be in the red. Also, taunting and then running around a room in mistform with 75% reduction is fun.

Yea, ESO tanking is a bit different. You need to find and controll the biggest threats, and you can't waste resources on the small stuff. You need to throw out debuffs and cc, and maybe add a bit of dps or heals into the mix.

I've been doing fine at that so far. It took a little bit to recognize the threat enemies but hey. IF I'm asked it's far easier to tank and less stressful in this game compared to all the other mmo's I've played.
