magicka Nightblades and ultimate: why sorcs will always have better single target dps

So I've been frustrated lately at how my magicka nb single target dps has been ruined since 1.6. I play my nb and my sorc about the same amount, and with roughly the same gear and champ points.

What I'm noticing is a huge difference between their single target dps now, and I realise it all comes down to ultimate.

Prior to 1.6 my nightblade generated ultimate at an extremely fast rate, because crit heals generated ult. This ultimate is what kept the dps competitive, because the nb standard attack, funnel health, is weaker than the sorc equivalent spell rotation.

Now that the nb ult generation is slower nb dps has suffered, while my sorc can store ultimate while clearing trash and use overload to turn that ultimate into competitive dps for bosses.

Even with identical gear, and both using a crushing shock/light attack weave my nb is always going to under perform the sorc, and there is no way that I can see that the nb will ever do as much dps as the sorc.

I'm not sure what the solution is here, other than buff nb ultimate generation, or ultimate damage, or somehow buff nb single target spells, perhaps double the damage of grim focus, or increase the damage buff it provides.

I can tell you this, something needs to be done for magicka Nightblades, because right now we are so far behind on single target dps it's painful.

Either that or maybe I just need to accept magicka Nightblades are now a support class and not a dps, and consider re rolling a stam nb like everyone else.

Magicka is still actually pretty decent, combined with the healing we provide, we are providing utility with dps at the same time, Regardless if the healing is needed or not, its still there. Well that is of course if your using funnel health, screw crushing shock for NB. Why use crushing? Funnel regens magicka back on use since its cost is lower than your magicka regen.

Its pretty much almost the same as what im using and im pretty happy now, A few weeks ago..... well, that was a different story, But ive finally got somewhere im happy with.

I mean sure, DK & Sorc can pull higher dps, But im enjoying NB still, id rather stick with whats enjoyable for me and leave a few DPS numbers behind.

I've seen that guys build, it's not far different from what I use but he is entirely dependant on PvP buffs for that hp and damage output. Without PvP buffs his hp is far too low because he has nearly every stat point and every enchantment in magicka.

And yes I do use funnel most of the time unless interrupts are needed, I've talked about crushing above because that's what sorc uses and so it provides a direct comparison.

Well, my perspective is always pvp, and the nb burst dps is way more/stronger then sorc. (specially stamina)

The thing is I agree, we provide tonnes of utility, healing, damage mitigation, but none of the content really calls for this. Eso is first and foremost a dps race. Mobs can't deal damage if they are dead, so 9 times out of 10 you are better to have more damage than healing and damage mitigation.

My magicka sorc completely out classes my magicka nb in PvP due to damage shields, and sorc burst is insane because of overload, curse and mages wrath. In PvP my magicka nb does shine as a resto staff using healer and support though.

Well, perhaps. Myself as a Dark Elf i currently have 21k health and 35k magicka with all magicka enchants. Id still be on the safe side regarding health without the pvp buffs.

But yes i do agree with your point somewhat, As Magicka, we need to put in more effort to maintain a dps number even close to other classes atm.

As do Sorcerers. The Nightblade is one of three hybrid classes in a four-class game and the game just became more bias towards single-resource specialisation.

Naturally, people see the changes to base mechanics and then want to remake their builds to suit and get frustrated they can't do it. Class skill design clearly hasn't been suitably modified to the new base mechanic changes however and the frustration is therefore understandable.

But at least you haven't got a Nightblade lunatic fringe calling for more hybridisation for your class, flying in the face of the significantly greater benefits of single-resource specialisation. That's one advantage NB has over Sorc atm.
