Naval Combat in ESO.

I'm just wondering, has this been brought up or discussed at all? Not that I'm expecting naval combat to be implemented anytime soon, but it would be really cool to know that it's at least a feature that the developers are considering adding sometime in the future, kind of like player housing which might get implemented someday. I just feel like ESO would do really well with naval combat; the game's visuals are already fantastic, and also giving people the option to live a sort of 'pirate life' away from the main lands would be really, really cool. And of course it would go hand-in-hand with the NPC murder/theft system that is being planned for ESO as well. Not to mention, the RP opportunities would be endless. :)

    I could see it as an expansion maybe for the redguard. It fits lore so I don't see why not plus id like to have a little fishing boat to pass the day in

    No. I've been playing since pre-launch and not heard anything along these lines. In fact, what games actually have this excluding Archeage? Currently the developers have a number of existing Elder Scrolls features they and the fans of the game are interested in seeing,
    1. Thieves Guild
    2. Justice System
    3. Housing
    4. Adding in more zones for areas of Tamriel currently inaccessible including the Imperial City, Orsinium, and the new Adventure Zone mentioned at Quakecon.
    5. Spellcrafting
    6. New Skill Lines

    The list actually goes on. I would suspect a completely non-ES feature such as Naval Combat is either not being considered or at the absolute bottom of any list on features to add to the game.

    Naval Combat has never been a big part of the Elder scrolls, you get a few fights/missions on ships, and this game has a mission were you fight some sea serpents, but it is something that happens in the books mostly.

    There is a quest in the AD alliance with navel combat. It was pretty awesome. One of my favorite experiences in the game. Other than Draigoch in Lotro it was probably the coolest quest in any mmo I've played.

    Maybe it would be good in a sea elf expansion?

    That's very true, I didn't think about that - it would probably only be consistent with the lore for certain ES races. Still, it would be cool to see, or even just being able to own boats in general. Glad to know there's a naval battle-esque quest in the AD alliance, though! That'll be my next veteran zone so I'll have something to look forward to. And yes, underwater swimming would be a great first step...although, I thought underwater swimming had already been confirmed? I might be wrong, though.

    ESO is still a new game with a great amount of lore and geographic settings still unused, so there is a good chance that in the future there will be naval combat. A good PVP setting for naval fighting would be the Topal Sea, south of Cyrodil. The giant river that runs through Cyrodil feeds right into it, so a naval campaign for control of the Topal Sea to supply forces in the Imperial province may come up in the future. In addition, the Elder Scrolls series still has lore subjects that have yet to even begin to be built upon for actual game settings. Namely the other continents of Nirn such as Akavir and Atmora. If Zenimax ever get serious about expanding the ESO universe, the "lost continents" of Nirn may become destinations that players can reach on ships they might purchase or build.

    Only time, in any Elder Scrolls gameI've been on a ship or sailing craft on some type were from mods made for Oblivion. The sailing boat mod let you sail from Lake Rumare to Leyawiin. Cannot recall any naval combat from previous games.

    I think it's pretty silly for people to assume that just because other elder scrolls games exclude this kind of game play that it's justified to exclude it in this game. This game should have everything and more that other ES games have and it really is missing quite a bit. I really had high hopes for this game and still have hopes! Innovative game play ideas shouldn't be excluded cause it "doesn't fit the lore". That primitive kind of thinking is going to keep this game from being a success.

    A feature like this would be actually quite interesting to have implemented in the game. Adding in Naval Combat would make ESO have another unique aspect of it compared to other MMOs and even other Elder Scrolls games. Sure we've never had it before, but that's all the reason more we should try it out, yeah?

    Personally, I'd like to have specific areas in which AvA Naval Battles could take place. Certainly a 'sea-zone' off the coast of Cyrodiil north of Alinor and south of Hammerfell would make a great seaworthy location for fights for DC versus AD. The Ghost sea off of Skyrim for DC versus EP, and the Sea off the coast of Leyawiin would be a good place for EP versus AD.

    Agreed, all! And Paul Sage had mentioned in one of the Road Ahead articles that he wants to push ESO in a more "open world"-esque direction...I feel like naval combat would be a great way to facilitate that.

    One of the issues with their current tech is being able to move platforms with players on them. Currently this doesn't exist and would require resources they don't have available to create it. Sadly, I would not expect this to happen anytime soon.

    There will never be naval combat in ESO. ZoS has been removing all the drug references, so there won't be enough Dramamine for players.

    Would be really cool if they made something like AC4 naval battles with boarding and siege weapons for PvP. Too bad it'll never happen. We will probably only ever have Cyrodil for PvP.

    ive played "heroes of three kingdoms"" and had naval battles on a huge lake, it was fun coz there was 3 alliance each with their own harbor and like 2-3 ships per alliance, but only a few players have received by mail shipping driving license. The war was happening each sunday night and i would last for 2-3 hours, like an event, you also could get from the mainland some cannon balls or harpoons each having other effects and was nice coz even the weak ones could do alot of damage.     off topic, HoTK also had farm with crops that give exp, big guilds had farms like instances wich u could teleport too and steal crops, there was like huge wars on those farms between guilds, even those from ur own alliance could come and steal crops, but those who were defending were 3 times strong. damn i had so much fun coz i was messing to other's farm, me beeing a nightblade, stealth would last like 2 mins i think

    I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
    Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.
