So publicly it has been stated that once VR are removed gear will move to "seasons". If that is anything like how Seasons worked in PvP Gear in WoW: PLEASE NO!

Instead I think it would be best if we made gear/items that right now require "Veteran Rank X" to require "Y Champion Points Spent".

And we can simply map this (initially) to Y = 5*(X-1) to map existing gear in. Then in the future mapping can be tweaked as needed.

Pros: Cadwell's Silver and Gold questing can still scale with you, Progressing one of your level 50s progresses all of your level 50s. This is good for those of us who like to have alts and play multiple chars. More variety of characters in the game without penalty.

I can't think of many people who found WoW itemization bad. Most people loved it, it's one of the things they really nailed with the game.

That said, there is a far bigger issue in what you're proposing: if you make gear bound based on CPs earned, that makes gear progression solely a time based one (e.g. how many hours a day you farm CPs in Spellscar), and not skill based one (like the Arena rating based PvP gear & raid gear from PvE was in WoW)

No reason to discuss the next major update (or maybe even the one after that) on the PTS forums.
You earned the 500 LOLs badge.

DDuke: linking gear to Arena rating is a horrible idea and just reinforces the advantage of the players who play more often, with more min/max builds, and have been around longer.

Anyone can earn PvE XP, not everyone can PvP effectively let alone PvP effectively at a gear disadvantage.

Hmm... I'm sure this thread will still be relevant in (at the earliest) September when VR is being discussed.

From what I understand it will work similar to this:

Lets assume 6 months have past and there are now currently 5 seasons worth of gear.

Season 5 (Current Season): This is the hardest to obtain and can not be bought generally. Found in trails, current content, and PvP rewards.

Season 4: This is a little easier to find and more common. Not to hard to get a complete set of this.

Season 3: This is pretty easy to find and likely able to find it pretty cheap from players or merchants.

The difference between Seasons are minor. A new player will be able to gear out in Season 3 gear soon after reaching 50 and not have vastly subpar gear. They will be weaker in champion points which will be the dividing factor to separate new players from long term players.

Overall I do not see a problem with this type of system. It would be nice to make those who get the current season unlock special costumes whereas those who earn it in a latter season wont earn the outfits.

I am also a fan of making the Enlightenment bonus depend on current champion points of player and server.
IE: A new player may have a bonus of 8 times the exp while a long term player may only get 4 times. The more the new player earns the lower the bonus gets until its also at 4 times.

IE: Server average is 100 Champion points.
Players with 80+ champion points earn 4 times the exp under enlightenment.
Players with 40-79 champion points earn 6 times the exp under enlightenment.
Players with 0-39 champion points earn 8 times the exp under enlightenment.

Players will still need to work towards their points and log in every day to earn them but it allows them to "catch up" a little faster.

So is the fundamental concept of seasons that you replace levels with tiered gear? Effectively periodically resetting the progress of all players with respect to one another?
