Provisioning - is there a logic to the ingredients?

In 1.5 there seemed to be a clear logic to which ingredients were needed for each level-specific recipe. Now I simply can't make out any logic to the new system, which means I can't figure out which ingredients to keep and which ones to sell/destroy/give away. As a result, and contrary to expectations, I am actually having bank space management problems as I try to hold on to any ingredients I find.

    Here's an in-depth recipe list, it might help you. There is still clear logic, but now it's sorted only by type, not by level. Bananas are used in level 10 and VR10 recipes, for example. So for food it works like this:

    Primary ingredients:
    meat = health
    fruit = magicka
    vegetable = stamina

    Secondary ingredients:
    cheese, garlic, seasoning, saltrice, millet, flour

    Lowest level green and blue foods use only primary ingredients. For all others:
    • green foods use one primary and secondary,
    • blue foods combine one secondary and two primary ingredients, completely logically: meat+fruit for health+magicka food, for example,
    • purple foods combine all three primary types and use Frost Mirriam in place of standard secondary ingredient.

      You have to memorize the mats you need for your level. Otherwise you need a lot of space in bank/backpack.

      Use the Sous Chef addon. It let's you easily mark recipes and track ingredients. And it works across all your alts. I would be lost without it.

      Purple uses Frost Mirriam (food) or Bervez Fruit (drink)

      And conveniently these show up as purple in your inventory...

      I think what baffles me is that ingredients are no longer sorted by level, which makes it more difficult to keep track of what you need. Also, the fact that they included new recipes with exactly the same bonuses but with different ingredients. For example, whereas in 1.5 the only VR5 blue food for health and magicka was Fortified Sweetroll, now we have three: Khajiiti Sweet-Stuffed Duck, Cloudy Dregs Inn Bouillabaisse, and Corinthean Roast Kagouti, all of which require different ingredients. If one of the purposes of this overhaul of provisioning was to help us save bank and inventory space, this looks like a complete design mistake to me. Instead of keeping track of three ingredients, now I have to keep track of nine (and I have to acquire more recipes). Not to mention the fact that of course my food will take up three inventory slots instead of one.

      Bank space management and switching back and forth between banker alts is not a fun part of the game in my opinion.

      i hate conspiracy theories, but if they start selling bank/inventory space on the Crown Store I'll be really upset.

      Um, no. That's not true at all. In 1.5 you had 1 VR5 blue food for health and magicka. In 1.6 there are 2 more, that much is true. Where your post starts to go completely wrong, however, is when you start assuming that for some reason you need to use the 2 new recipes. You don't. If you want to simplify your inventory just keep using 1 recipe, and ignore the other 2. So now, where before you had to keep track of 3 ingredients, and the food you created would take up 1 inventory slot, now in 1.6 it's the exact same... Except that ingredients stack to 200 instead of 100. You only end up in your scenario of using 9 ingredients and 3 food types if you choose to for some inexplicable reason.

      I do far less alt inventory management now than I did before thanks to items stacking to 200. I also have alts of different levels, so now it's easier to keep them all supplied because ingredients aren't sorted by level. All in all, I am very happy with Provisioning changes.

      True, this is one aspect I did not consider. I only really use food for my main character, so that's not something that had occurred to me.

      Yes, but by doing so you limit yourself, as you make your chances of finding useful ingredients slimmer. If you use all three recipes, you will have more food at your disposal (also for selling).

      The fact that crafting materials now stack to 200 of course is a welcome change.

      Yes, but you're limiting yourself in the exact same manner that you were limiting yourself before by only keeping the 3 ingredients for that 1 food.

      I can almost keep up with the ingredient system now having to make stuff for my Alts Prov writs.

      What I can't figure out is the logic that went into the new recipes and their conversions.

      For example in 1.5 I already knew Venison Pasty. So they decided to convert that to Cheese Pork Schnitzel so I still know that after.

      But they just HAD to have a NEW Venison Pasty that converted from Worm Tart which I didn't have in 1.5.

      And yes, SpA... when they converted my stamina/health drinks, they became useless magicka/health drinks... fortunately I am able to make what I need in spite of it... :)
