DE - Fire Mage - Am i forced to take a Restoration Staff?

I am planning a Dark Elf DK Fire Mage style based character with Destro Staff in the first and 1h / shield in the second slot.

He will mainly use DKs fire casts to benefit from the DE racials so it will be a magicka heavy build with 5 light armor and 2 heavy or maybe even 7 light we will see.

My question is will i be able to survive on higher levels without using a restoration staff?

I feel like no matter what class you play except templars because of their class based heals you are more or less forced to use a restoration staff to survive longer combats.

Is that true or am i just not experienced enough?

No you are not. I have an Altmer DK fire mage and I have destruction staff on both bars. One bar for single target, one bar for AE. As DKs we have awesome self heals, Igneous Shields and GDB for example. In raids I normally have Igneous Shields on my AE bar to help with damage mitigation phases of fights.

I do keep a resto staff in my inventory, but that is mostly to charge my Ultimate before bosses. There are a few rare Boss fights that I use a resto staff in my offhand (Mantikora, The Engine Guardian).

    Hope this helps.
