Returning Player 1.6 Class Choice

Hey all I'm stuck here between 3/4 classes for 1.6. I've done a bunch of research so far on the benefits of each "end game". I know end-game for everyone is different, so what I consider end game is some PvE (vet dungeons / "raids" / grinding CP's), and a bit of PvP in Cyrodill.

I don't have any max level characters, but I do have a 36 NB / 35 Sorc, and a 25 Templar.

I enjoy all of them, across both stam, or magicka builds. I primarily enjoy DPS roles, but also dabble in healing when I have the chance. My primary concern is getting at least one of them to vet rank before the patch drops, as to not lose out on the initial CP's that having one vet 1 rank character gets you.

Anyone out there who can make a suggestion based on their own personal experiences with 1.6 on PTS would be appreciated.

Thanks again!

If you are into DPS I would go with the NB, but Templar are also viable in dps to some degree in 1.6. I don't have a Sorc so I can't comment on them.

In 1.6 Templars are even for DPS with Sorcs and NBs and just behind DKs, and in PvP they seem to be reigning king atm.
Bobbity Boop, this game might become poop, but I'll still play because I'm just a pile of goop!

Simply hitting VR1 gives you nothing. You get 1 CP for each 200k XP earned in veteran ranks, up to 70 points.

Just stay on the DK or sorc as always and you be fine, for both pvp and pve solo and grp.

I have no interest in dk at all, but sorc is one of my main considerations.

1.6 is still in the pre-release state on PTS at the moment.

But if it stays as is, then with a sorc you should consider a magicka based summoner with pets and overload ultimate. Or stamina based with mostly 2h skills and bow skills and overload.

I gave DK a try on PTS and - if this really stays as is - then corrosive armor (ulti) will be the new meta, combined with 2h and bow. Even though I can see that ZOS nerfs this new tank/dps meta into oblivion. But maybe it goes live, so I warned you  .

And I wasn't aware that there was no initial CP's given to VR1 players, for some reason I was under the impression that VR1 was given 30, and then you earned the rest via leveling VR ranks. Thanks for the information.

I think I'm between sorc and templar at this point, all I see everywhere is people complaining about sorc's in PvE, but saying how godly they are in PvP.

That about sums it up nicely in 1.6 so far. Useless in PvE... excellent at PvP.

Templars are more rounded... .they are god like in PvP... very good at PvE now... and also still the best healers.... based on what you said initially about doing a bit of everything then I'd suggest Templar, it will fit all your roles, Sorc will only do one in their current form.

Nightblade Aimee Owlious (Magicka) / Myttens (Stamina)
    Warden: Frosti-Tute (Magicka/Healer) Boops-Many-Snoots (Stamina/Tank)

Its really hard to say because so much is changing but peoples mindsets are not, so until top players post top dps builds in each class and prove things can be different many leaders will just want to do things exactly the same as 1.5 and complain zos ruined the game if they need to change anything.

any class will now be good healers in situations where you can stack all the time, the new blessing of restoration is really strong, temps will always have breath of life so an edge in fights where you just cant reliably stay close enough for group heals

temps are the best healers and so far it looks like we will finally have comparable dps so, its looking great for both styles and both endgame styles.

Sorcs are looking very strong in pvp they have good answers to casters and melee with ball lightning and the much better deadric mines. they can glass cannon with crazy defence of hardened ward.

I didnt test nb or dk just fought against them. I think there will be very good magica and stamina builds for all classes.

just need to pick a playstyle that suits you the most in order to know what class you want

Based on my experience from PTS:
Templar - I think it is currently the toughest class in the game with a really decent damage capabilities, at last.
Sorcerer - excellent damage dealer, especially with pets, and with one of the best escape options when it's getting too hot around ;-)
Nightblade - some class skill have been nerfed, but it still synergies very well with dual wield and bow - and the best class for such builds.
Dragonknight - I haven't spend much with this class, though its class skills seems currently quite week (in comparison to other classes) at the moment. The only reasonable DPS build I found was stamina-based 2H. I guess no more fire builds atm.

But... this is PTS and still a lot can change before going live.

Stamina Templars are pretty damn powerful atm with a 2H, and bow is semi-decent. Caster Templars are freaking insane and terrifying with pretty much face melt anything that comes across them. Scary ***.

Sorcerers can be great DPS in PvE but require groups to do it as their survivability has been cut down significantly. Basically in groups they're the new artillery. Stamina wise they got gypped pretty hard as they have few potent stamina morphs, but in a sense they can get by just fine using weapon skills.

Nightblades are in a good spot still for the most part, they could just use a spot of polish here and there. Obviously still amazing if not better for stamina builds.

Dragonknights are the odd one here now. Personally I think they're still amazing for both PvP and PvE, but there's contention here and there on how good they really are. For Magicka their builds have been greatly changed and I think they're fine, but a few continue to lose their minds about how they can't adapt. Stamina wise on the other hand seem to be destroying things left and right now, or so I hear.

Honestly, I think it's best that you decide on what you want based solely on what you want to do.

They were going to give it to you just for hitting vet rank, but they took that out for a 200,000 exp per champion point conversion rate for whatever reason. They also said this would not be the conversaion rate when it goes live. So unless they changed it again, this is where it stands

So, Templar and DK's are the solo PvE kings in 1.6?
