Feedback on Tutorial

Since I can't seem to find /create these "templates" I hear so much about (character select screen is blank, hitting create character did just that, made a level 1 character), I decided to run through the tutorial to see how it is. There are things I like and things I dislike.
  • "How does the new tutorial feel? Do you feel like you’re learning more?"

I think the tutorial needs a few more tutorial combats. We learned block and interrupt. A new player is not introduced to the concepts of resource cost or resource recovery. Or dodge rolling, Or...RED CIRCLES!!! I was stunned (not sure how) by the bone colossus and I was just told to hit X (my keybind)...I was not told how I was stunned or why hitting X works or that I need stamina to do this. That being said, I do welcome the addition of the much needed lockpicking tutorial. I don't think a person who goes through the tutorial will know how ESO combat works.
  • Did you come out of the tutorial with a character that can perform well in the game world? Did you feel you had enough armor, a high enough level, and proper knowledge?

For knowledge, see above. As for having enough gear and high enough level, yes, this is an improvement over the tutorial at release (where I looted everything and found like 2 armor pieces and not a weapon I wanted to use. Because of the relative ease in finding stuff, I can live with the forced first weapon of a two-handed sword.
  • How do new systems like Champion Points and Provisioning feel with a new character going through the tutorial?

To be honest, not applicable. If there was a message that said something about either of these two systems, I did not see it. I did get a recipe and ingredients, but I don't remember a pop-up box that said "congratulations, you found your first recipe...")
  • Does the new tutorial perform well? Did you notice any lag?

It did. No complaints here.

As far as more general feedback:
  • I felt Lyris rushed me through the tutorial. For instance, after talking to Cadwell, she just ran down the stream. I KNOW I could leave her at the door and do what I wish, but it's a tutorial, not everyone might feel comfortable ignoring the very in game character designed to assist them. Have her follow the player.
  • I felt the previous tutorial felt more "epic," I was part of a grand escape. Here is is just me. The "grand escape" setting felt right because of the other players in the game.
  • I felt the previous tutorial encouraged a bit more exploration and player agency. Before I found Lyris. Here she finds me. Before the prophet's story unfolded in a series of dialogues/events. Here I think it was all played out to me before I exited the first area (where you first meet Lyris in original). Before, I was tasked to destroy the sentinal and then make my way back to Lyris, who directed me to Cadwell...this is a very natural and good way to encourage the player to peek around, learn the combat more, and not feel rushed since she is on her own. Now Lyris follows me to the sentinal, talks to me immediately after destroying it, and leads me to Cadwell and then rushed me to the locked door...what's the rush?
  • I do like the setting in this tutorial better...it never really made sense why I was in a marketplace with those soul shirven things just standing there (what are they selling and who are they selling that stuff too?). Here there are daedra guards and clannfears and it actually feels like an escape. And the combat is more interesting against these opponents.
  • I also like the design of the passage Cadwell directs you to better. It was more than just a circular big room with corridors and traps.
  • I'd be a bit worried about the respawn times of the monsters. I was there alone and don't recall the stuff I killed spawning again. This might be an issue if there are a lot of console players doing that tutorial at the same time...Of course, Lyris was rushing me...
  • I dislike the "boss" encounter. Previously the prophet actually healed me. Here he just stands idly. I remember red circles/cones and actually having to block that fight (well, sort of, the prophet wouldn't let you die) and that fight took a while to win. Here I was autostunned, never saw the tell, saw no red circles/cones, and killed it so quickly I never even though of using my execute. I think this "boss" was level 2...I was level 4 doing just from killing like 6 extra daedra beyond the bare minimum. It's ok to make this dude tough...the prophet should heal the player and not let her die.

Hope this helps.

Templates are used on the character creation screen. In the upper left corner there is a pulldown menu.

My connection was extremely unstable this time through. I got kicked out quite often and it was frustrating just to get through it. I did not find my weapon of choice in there. I did find multiple copies of every other weapon in the game.
