Blood Altar--Why is it not more popular?

I'm not coming from a position of experience at all with healing, so I'd simply like to know why I don't see this heal more widely discussed. Great health regen or over 50% health regen on a synergy that can be pressed easily upon massive damage, saving the healers their magicka.

Is there something I'm missing?

Grouping made it hard to do the Undaunted quest at first so people moved on to leaving up other skills.

Synergies are horrible and impossible to reliably activate when more than 2 or 3 are present. Also, 50% boost to health regen really isn't much. I can layer 2-3 healing springs and provide dramatically more healing without wasting the extra skill slot. Blood altar is essentially worthless at this point.

It's quite nice at lower levels for healer support.

It's also nice when the group has to be split up or you don't want to take a healer with you. Used it with my tank when we were duoing Craglorn and had to kite a lot.

For standard situations it's not very good: no self heal, only others can use it and it has a cast time to summon.

Hopefully blood altar is one of many spells that gets improved with 1.6 (pretty much all of the undaunted skills suck, tbh).

Because it's a poorly designed skill that was implemented badly, for reasons that mostly have already been noted above. Almost anything is better to slot.

In the situations where you would need it most, you're likely not going to be in the AoE.

The base level effect is meager, at best. Health regen is never going to be the difference between winning and losing a fight if it's down to the wire.

As such, since you have to be at 60% health or lower to activate the synergy and it doesn't work (synergy) for the caster at all, other heals usually take its place.

There are some situations where it has merit. They are just few and far between.

In Undaunted situations, what it was built around, you are actually far less likely to use it to full effectiveness than elsewhere.

Boss drops an AoE on top of your +15%-30% regen...easy to see who's gonna win that battle.

They really should just rework the ability. Have it suck life out of enemies within the aoe and give it to allies within the aoe.

I don't use it regularly, but it occasionally finds itself on one of my tanking bars in a dungeon just for added healing, but only if I have a free skill slot.
