Need help beating good block/casting sorcs as a templar

Now dont get me wrong, i can beat most sorc on my templar no prob. But GOOD s/b..restostaff sorc im having an issue with.

Im a stamina build running 2-hand and bow.

They basically block cast mages fury/crystal shards while keeping up resto staff shield the whole time. I cant seem to CC them at all with the block casting going on.

Anytime i get close they just bolt escape out. Or if they do happend to mess up a block cast, they bolt escape out of range and get resources back.

The fight usually goes on like this till i mess up and let unstoppablle go down and i get cc'd and lose.

So with my current setup, is there a way to stop this person? If not, is there a build to counter that build?

If i could successfully CC them at least once i think i can win, but i cant seem to find anything in the templar skills to do it. The aoe spear thing seems too clunky to land. The throwing spear thing just gets blocked. Venom arrow barely works as its jsut block casted against.

Or do i need to just switch to some sort of magicka s/b setup of my own?

Im sure i could find builds to stalemate these sorcs, but im trying to find one that can beat it.

Halp!

No you can't. Honestly.. That build is working well vs scrubs who don't know how to block casting. It has very high burst and CC, but block casting with a shield completely negates its burst and you just end up burning all your stamina for very minimal damage. And you can't even weave light attacks to drain stamina because of streak. I feel you^^

Try to survive until their stamina is out and burn them down once you catch them off guard. But any good sorc won't let you to do that honestly. Really hard match for templar.

If you have extra magicka, you can use eclipse for stamina drain and some lucky reflects. Or, if you have some extra stamina, you can use s/b as secondary weapon for reflect. Since they can't disable it with staff light attacks, you can reflect some damage back at them and drain stamina. And use wrecking blow-crit charge combo as hard CC and crazy damage. But ofc most of the time they will streak away, so you need to time it well

If they try to streak away, just charge to them. Usually they will run out of magicka before you run out of stamina. Or they just die after a few charges.

try DK reflective scales and DGB.
they will bolt scape away to never come back = win (cause sorc just dont die)

Best advice EVER!!! OP just put few DK skills on your templar and problem solved :D

Seems only way how to counter them as your templar build is to survive while their stamina is out or try Blinding light. If this skill works you should be able to knock down enemy with heavy attack.

Magnum shot + Critical rush also is good combo, if sorc is out of stamina.

This isn't working in pvp. It only makes them miss but no knock down on heavy attack.

Hmm so 50% chance to set off balance is blockable or it simply doesn't work? Haven't really tested this skill.

to be honest you cant win vs a well played sorc, the best shot you have is to extend the fight so much that he is either annoyed and leaves you alone, or the fight will be added and decided that way, but with the current set of templar skills its impossibe to win on your own.

It does make them miss their attack by %50 chance, but the "set of balance" part isn't working in pvp as the way it works in pve. If they miss an attack, they just pushed back(same as in pve) but you cant knock them down with heavy attack while the effect is on. So the 6 second set of balance effect has no use in pvp.

Also this part, (from 1.3.3 patch notes)
"Blinding Light: This ability can now cause enemies to go off-balance when they are blocking."
    isn't working in pvp aswell.

This part of skill is clearly for PvP, haven't seen any NPC who's blocking where so fearsome that I need special skill to counter it.

In theory, with that skill, templars should be nightmare for block casters. From caster's viewpoint: 50% chance that you waste your attack and will be knocked the *** down. Sounds pretty dangerous.

Anyone reported this skill? Is it bug or working as intended?

Yeah it has very good potential in theory.

I think the whole "off balance" subject is disabled in pvp. Even if you interrupt your opponent, or block a heavy attack you cant make them off balance. If i'm not wrong, devs responded on this issue that it's intended and working correctly, when early months of the game.

But it's working as it writes in the tooltip, only when fighting with keep guards and such. Lol.

Its hard to beat any class doing this when you are using any kind of stamina build. They block all of your attacks, deal high damage, and you will run out of stamina roll dodging their furies, shards, talons, and whatever ranged spell from whatever class you are then fighting.

You cant beat these builds unless you can outlast them and burn their stamina, or if you take up block casting yourself.

Dont worry though, the CS is coming up, and im sure ZOS is looking into it.

Until then, here is my advice to you:

Use momentum from two handed to heal yourself; the HoT effect should still be applied even if you switch to your bow, If you have ANY abilties that can wear down stamina quickely, use them(not biting jabs spam, that will not work as most people simply side-step it)

Aside from that, the best you can do is try to outlast them if possible:(

Well, i have recently faced templars that somehow knocked me back while i was ATTACKING, NOT while blocking, and they did not use any visible knockback skills.....

That is because you miss your attack. (that knockback is the same animation as biting jab's knockback.) But the point is off balance effect granted for 6 seconds which is that little flying circle animation on your head, which is supposed to knock them down to the ground when you use heavy attack... That's not working.

And this, "Blinding Light: This ability can now cause enemies to go off-balance when they are blocking."
    not working at all.

Templar. Just like the same way when you block a heavy attack of a mob or interrupt, after then you use your heavy attack to knock them down while they are off balanced.

Defensive stance with blazing spear works pretty well. Throw in radiant aura and purifying ritual and you should be able to keep unstoppable and def. stance up long enough to drain stam or make them bored and bolt away.

Sorc here, I don't block cast (i only block when needed, never needed to Block Cast)

That being said, Block casting is a real pain for stamina users to deal with. Its bad enough for us magic users. Penguin has the best advice here, Slot radiant aura, and keep Unstoppable up, it then becomes a matter of resource management.

Also Ecliple is very good skill to use as well.

they can - but block-casting magicka based characters can't break it very often...

Sorc here: I would try working eclipse into your build. Play somewhat defensive, when he starts pushing hard toss it on him and follow up with some hard counter damage. Your bound to put a drain on some of his stats doing that. Also look for when he takes a potion. When his potions are on cooldown is a good time to put some pressure up.

But you are right, this is a pretty easy fight for the sorc.

Not really easy for a sorc either, I've had fights go on for 10 plus minutes. If the templars is good at putting up Sheilds they can live forever, even through full assault ultimate on them and running through mines. Those intant full heals are pretty op, i mean powerful.

What drains stay the quickest from a templars is biting jabs and Eclipse. And if you use a bow you have to in the bag with a sorc not being able to escape the range of it if they want to do damage.

How can a sorc beat a good templars? What's the best way to break that near impervious defense.?

I find crushing shock works well. Keep range and keep pounding, heavy attack when they roll doge (I use lighting staff). I also have been using shattering prison, it helps keep range and force roll dodges/can stick them in negate. If they try to snipe it is usually a fast fight with crushing shock. If they are a stam templar you can run them out of mag pretty quick by just keeping damage up with crushing shock/light attack/heavy attack. If they are LA templar it can be a long fight but they generally aren't going anywhere and die in a negate once they are out of stam.

If medium armor user, pickup Twin Sister Set

Its dot goes through block, I slowly just eat them up fairly easy...Either the Sorc runs away from me on my DK, or I just burn through them.

you can pretty much accomplish the same thing I as a Templar as its very similar in setup.

I use a combo of dark flare, healing staff, eclipse, breath, immovable, on my healing staff bar. On S&B defensive stance, invasion, bitting jabs, blazing shield and restoring aura. 7/7 cloth warlock/ impenetrable undaunted.

Keep up immovable (no cc but also procs extra damage from undaunted), keep reflects up eclipse when they drop gaurd. Real damage comes from heavy staff attacks. Invasion when they blink. Bitting jabs to stunlock. Ulti of your choice I like bat swarm though meteor or SA is solid choices.

Real pro of this build is the heavy damage gained from undaunted and cut off of Heals from dark flare. Everything else is just rubbering sorc's glue.
    Works well for me...
