The Vagrant Jaeger - Templar 2H/Bow DPS Build

Jaeger = German for Ranger/Hunter, which is fitting for the following build, originally meant for the Battlemaster's Corner, I decided to chuck it up here since I doubt it would get picked for display (My pics were awful, like truly terrible).

Anyway, here, take a look at a slightly RP influenced build guide that has served me pretty damn well on single target bosses.

“Through Service, We Find Purpose.”

Many who worship and preach the word of the Divines dwell within the safety of church walls or travel in the escort of a companion or caravan, as such to preach their word in cities and villages with relative comfort. Some even strap on heavy armor and wield massive weapons and go on to fight on the front lines as Crusaders and Holy Warriors, something I myself used to do.

Then there come those who are like the current me, those that forsake the heavy, metal laden armors and unruly battlefield for the other side of war, the one many fail to take notice of. As the battle in Cyrodiil rages on, innocent people are being affected by the conflict and Daedra often run rampant, unchecked, and the forces of Evil amass constantly, readying to strike. That’s where my kind come in, Daedra-Scorned Templars, Holy Warriors of the shadow, wandering from place to place in order to hunt both Man and Monster alike. My name is Khivas Carrick, and I am a Vagrant Jaeger.

The build used on Khivas is actually two mini builds fused together, and calls for the following:

31 Health, 31 Stamina, offering the ability to take a hit should you have to and bolster the usage of the weapon abilities this build focuses on.

5 Medium Armor pieces, 1 Heavy, 1 Light. This gives a prime focus for the Stamina Usage through Regen, Cost Reduction, and Weapon Crit, and allows for the use of the Class Skills without a heavy restriction. All Armor will have the Infused Trait as to get the most bang for the buck while using Stamina Enchants on each piece.

A Two-Handed Sword (Named Bane) and Bow (Named Widow), both with Precise Trait (most Daedra and even people do not wear Heavy armor, thus Sharpened is not necessary). The sword will have a Poison Enchant and the Bow, Fire.

Jewelry that adds Stamina and is enchanted for Weapon Damage.

The Primary set of this is the Seducer to aid in the Templar’s lack of Magicka Management, allowing for cheaper used Class Skills and magicka regeneration, which as an Imperial, Khivas is a bit lax for. The secondary set is the Ashen Grip, for the HP and Weapon Damage bonus.

The preferred Mundus Stone to use for me is the Thief, but Warrior also works well with this build.

Without further adieu, I present to you, the Vagrant Jaeger.

Melee DPS - Two-Handed Weapon - “The Monster Slayer”

First Skill Slot - Spear Shards (Blazing Spear Morph) - This move is mostly used to utilize a lovely DoT and magic attack in Single DPS, and a lovely way to get some nearby allies some much needed Stamina. Can also be used for AoE assaults.

Second Skill Slot - Momentum (Rally Morph) - Bane is fearsome on his own, but with some proper incentive, he becomes even stronger. Plus the end of the skill heals Khivas, which is vital at some points in time depending on how hairy a fight gets. Seriously though, more weapon damage is good.

Third Skill Slot - Reverse Slash (Reverse Slice Morph) - Now before you wonder why I’m using this instead of Executioner, just know that when it comes down to crunch time, I’m not using any other weapon skill outside of Executioner, which has a damage cap, so that extra 18% is pretty moot. That said, you can’t beat that this is still an executing skill, and with the small but potent AoE, it helps when you need to clear out a mob of enemies, especially since this build lacks in AoE.

Fourth Skill Slot - Sunfire (Vampire’s Bane Morph) - What better way to put off would be foes and especially Vampire’s than to simply light them on fire courtesy of a sun inspired fireball! Simple single target boom with a single target DoT based burn. Does wonders on Lions, Tigers, and Bears (oh my!) and living and undead alike!

Fifth Skill Slot - Uppercut (Wrecking Blow Morph) - Bane’s speciality is the infamous “Spinal Tap”, which as you might imagine is Wrecking Blow. This is the bread and butter of 2H DPS, the reason for reasons. This is what makes an enemy weak to the usage of Reverse Slash. This Skill is your friend, hands down. Also makes great CC on single, lone enemies should you be able to use it.

Ultimate - Dawnbreaker (Flawless Dawnbreaker Morph) - A simple AoE attack that offers semi decent Single Target use as well due to it’s ease of generating Ultimate and Ultimate Cost. The real reason for this being here is thanks to the bonus 13% Weapon Damage it provides, making Wrecking Blow and Reverse Slash stronger.

Ranged DPS - Bow and Arrow - “The Witch Hunter”

First Skill Slot - Spear Shards (Blazing Spear Morph) - Same purpose here as for Melee; Single Target DPS, Melee Stamina Support. Only difference is this time it’s dropped from afar.

Second Skill Slot - Sunfire (Vampire’s Bane Morph) - Again, same purpose as before; Set on fire, point, laugh.

Third Skill Slot - Poison Arrow (Venom Arrow Morph) - Borrowing from the pages of Witch Hunters, Spell Casters think they’re cute to pop people from afar with spells that have to be channeled or casted. This stops that, and leaves a nasty venom in you to boot. Oh and it leaves most targets stunned long enough to knock them down with a heavy attack. Useful little utility move, good for both PvP and PvE.

Fourth Skill Slot - Eclipse (Unstable Core Morph) - Another thorn to spell casters, this one serves to help prevent them from using spells, or at the very least make them waste time and stamina breaking free while you pluck them with so many arrows they resemble your Aunt Jemima's pin cushion collection. In PvP, an enemy that’s a caster will waste their Stamina to break free, which normally isn’t that bad for them, until they can’t break free again and end up unable to even dodge out of the way of an angry <insert “something” here> screaming their way.

Fifth Skill Slot - Snipe (Lethal Arrow Morph) - A special attack meant to be both the bread and butter of this spec but also a special “Nope!” to Werewolves, Lethal Arrow makes healing difficult, hits like a truck, and brings down most enemies with extreme proficiency. However this is for ranged use only, try your best not to use this at close range, ok? Good for both PvE and PvP.

Ultimate - Dawnbreaker (Flawless Dawnbreaker Morph) - Same reason as for melee, however this is largely useless to use from afar for obvious reasons. That said, one can easily substitute Soul Assault for the Ultimate instead in this build, adding in a massive use of burst damage and more importantly, in PvP against a single foe, it makes for a great way to destroy an enemy quickly and brutally.

Optional Sub-Builds:

The Jaeger also has multiple other builds within it, using Dual Wielding and Resto Staffs to great effect, with DWing being backed up by the bow and the Resto Staff being backed up by the 2Hander, should players wish to hear what they are, simply PM @Khivas in game on the NA Ebonheart Pact or send me a message here on the forums to @Khivas_Carrick!

You needn't worry much about health being too low. The idea is that you're supposed to avoid the high damaging attacks in the first place, and the extra bit of health provided by the 31 spent in it along with PvP buffs (everybody does Buff Servers for a reason!) ensures that you survive damn near everything that the tank doesn't pick up, which shouldn't be much at all.

    Also you're welcome.

Interesting how two different builds using the same weapons can differ so much. For my main two hand I use cleave as it gives a good return on ultimate points. I use the Aedric spear ultimate that does decent AE damage and can be used a lot in a fight. On the bow bar I have snipe, venom arrow, and the knock back bow attack. That along with spear shards and the single target Templar heal rounds that out. Then on the second I have the spear charge (probably substitute with cleave once fully leveled), the damage shield, Aedric spear, cleave, and again the single target heal. With the main ultimate that I use being the Aedric spear one.
Two different strategies. For single target I initiate with snipe then as that is in the arrow I use venom arrow. If there is enough space I use the spear shards to stun then snip again. If not I use the bow knock back for space and stun then follow with snipe.
For groups I use Spear Shards, charge, shield, aedric spear, then cleave. Generally at this point the ultimate is up which after firing the group is dead or dwindled down to one. I also use this with bosses although I might use snipe or if applicable silver bolts before I throw my spear.

I think it is great that concept builds can be utilized differently.

I take it you're not at full Veteran Level? Because what you're using sounds like a leveling build than a trials, dungeons, or hybrid support build.
