Fire resistance. Really bugged? Or really... no words.

I tested with a VR12 character versus a VR1 scamp.

With absolutely no armor on, I took 264 from his little bolt attack every time. No variation.

With 1120 fire resistance from an ammy, I took 183 damage.

With 2240 fire resistance from an ammy and a ring, I took 183 damage.

With 3420 fire resistance from an ammy, and a ring, and a ring, I took 183 damage.

Does that sound right to anyone?

Or is something bugged?

Edit: Just tried with 3770 fire resist and still take 183 damage.

Maybe the spell is mitigated by armor or atleast not by fire resists?
I know fire resists does nothing against properly geared players in pvp. Should work in pve though.

Resistances have a hard cap. Trying to get above that cap (which isn't shown on the character sheet) provides no benefit.

I had thought the hard cap was at 25%, however it appears you are mitigating about 30% of the fire damage.

So doesn't sounds bugged but working as intended.

Hiding the hard cap on stats is a time-honoured TES tradition! :)

Fire Resistance get's added to Armor or Spell Resistance, as appropirate for the attack.
The summed value is fully subject to hard- and softcaps.

Spell Resistance is based on Level, so you never where unprotected in the first place.

The most common number is that Armor/Spell resistance hardcaps at 50% agaisnt equal level foe.

    In short:
Elemental resistance will work as either kind of armor, but only against the right element of attack.
It is more effective (more points per enchantment) then Spell Resistance or Armor Enchantment (and that is before you count it counting as either of the two).
It won't do you any good if you are able to reach hardcap anyway.
It will never be able to fully counter the vampire/WW vulnerabilities. The attack get's doubled before defenses and defenses are hardcappd at 50% mitigation, so at best you get the damage of a truly unprotected person.

Most fire is a spell so spell resistance takes up most fire effects but not enough too reach hard cap for most players............... one fire enchant will reach the cap on it. different races and builds will have different results and if ur spell resistance is capped u may not need any enchants ... thats how i understand it....

So having 3 pieces of maxed out fire resistance jewelry is actually not doing me any more good than having one would? Grrrreat. :(
