Gaining XP on PTS Vet Content versus Gaining VP in Vet Content on Live

The amount of XP needed for next VR rank is lower than the amount of VP that used to be needed. But I seem to be gaining XP at quite a reduced rate compared to VP. For example, I just cleared a World Boss in VR4 Malabal Tor and got like 2381 XP. I think I used to get like 36000 VP or 42000 VP or something like that for clearing an area on that map. I have always been someone who has to clear everything in a zone before moving on. It is kinda OCD, but that is how I play.

This obsession with completing content has always served me well for leveling, from Level 1 all the way to VR8 (where I am now). I never once had to mindlessly grind mobs in this game. But the VP-to-XP change seems to have made exploration and turning map markers white much less worthwhile and grinding mobs much more worthwhile in Vet Content. Grinders always had Craglorn but us Completionists still had a good option.

Running Vet Dungeons was also a good option. I couldn't find a group to do a Vet Dungeon on PTS so I don't know how XP works in them with 1.5. They give very good VP right now, but I seem to recall that was not the case with XP in Level 1-50. Normal Level 1-50 dungeons used to give measly XP, I think. I hope Vet Dungeons are not now like that.

I am kind of disappointed if the new change makes Vet Content require more grinding.

And I hope this will not continue into the Champion System. If faceroll grinding zombies in Coldharbour will give you a Champion Point way faster than doing a group dungeon, that would stink.

thats the thing though grinding tends to be faster anyways as it is. If you grind burial tombs for example in a train you can level about 10x faster then grinding quests. Also it would be hard to just calculate this anyways because speed is based entirely on your dps kill factor and how fast you read or skip quest content etc. I can spend a hour on a quest and earn 2% of my level for example or go sight seeing for an hour or i can go and grind burial for an hour and get 30% of my level.

I think they said it will roughly take about an hour to earn a champion point from basically doing the things you want to do be it grinding or questing but I do not think its going to be an exact science. I know going down to a little over a million experience in general is not bad at all compared to the vet grind. But I do agree with you if they are only giving out experience thats really low on a scale it should be upped. What I think would make both parties happy is a % based experience gain for mobs and exploration, that could easily fix this issue.

The way it works on live varies depending on your rank. You gain anywhere from 0.8% - 1.3% (something like that) of your level per Craglorn world boss. There are good levels and bad levels. VR1 and VR2 is pretty bad, it might even be faster to just quest those levels. VR3 is great, and then it starts to go down again until VR8 which is the worst, then it goes up a bit, and then down again. I'm not positive. It's a really weird, unnecessary system.

The point is, you typically have to kill "about 100" Craglorn bosses per level. Tower grinds typically kill bosses once every 2 - 2.5 minutes. Upper Craglorn is like double that. I haven't gotten a chance to try other grinds because giving tens of thousands of players five different places to level in groups of 12 is dumb.

I tried to download the PTS to do some XP tests, but I didn't have enough room on my SSD and I didn't really care to put in any more effort past that. Hopefully someone else will do it.

There is nothing hard to calculate. Nobody is talking about XP/VP per minute gain values.
It is all about having some certain ammount of XP/VP from same content/quest/boss.

And op is saying that this ammount was nerfed into the abbyss.

For my second toon I preferred to "grind" quests by skipping through asap no reading because fight grind is too mind numbing, if they Nerf exp this much for quests it seems we won't be leveling any faster like they suggested.

I hope this isn't the case. If we go back to XP and level slower than we did with VP then someone at ZOS needs more coffee.

It is the case unfortunately. I tested out the boss at Abandoned Farm in Stormhaven on my EP VR2 character. On live it was 7527xp, on PTS it was 1922xp.
"it's important to state that our decision to go with subscriptions is not a referendum on online game revenue models. F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days." - Matt Firor

So they need to make it at least 4x less xp required to gain a level just to level at the same rate questing! any idea of the ratio? I'm not in the mood for math.

    Apparently neither is ZOS.
