What do you gain by improving a weapon to Epic qualtiy?

I just improved my Restoration Staff from Superior to Epic and the only thing that increased was the cost of the staff when up 4 coins.

Superior Quality Restoration Staff before improvement:

Damage 113
Flame Damage 39
Level VR4
Value 64

Superior Quality Restoration Staff improved to Epic quality:

Damage 113
Flame Damage 39
Level VR4
Value 68

Ok, so I spent 5000 coins on crafting supplies to raise the value of the staff 4 coins? Am I missing something here, or is this a bug? When I improve armor, the damage value and traits increase.

You get OMGorange coloured pixels and a sense of superiority over others, that's what 'epic' gear is for isn't it?

at low level the color/upgrade on your weapons means nothing. the higher lvl you have the more difference you will see when you upgrade items.

from level 1-50 green items is all you need and you can easily switch out lower level items for higher lvl items you get as quest reward or drops all the way up to veteran level.

at veteran level blue gear is all you need. purple and gold upgrades is best at end game at max level.

save crafting materials you get rather than waste them at low level.
Besides you out level gear fast between 1-50 so upgrading wount do you any good.

Still.. The dmg should upgrade? I too like to give my level 4 alts blue/purp weapons so they can storm through the early content easier (less skills, more dependand on weapon dmg)

Yes, the damage should have upgraded. But, not that much at L4. It's a rounding thing at this low level that causes the increase to not show up.

Besides, I make gear sets for my L4 characters all the time, never take it past Green. As soon as they reach L6, they get new materials and new glyphs to use, so anything above L4 Green is a waste. I make them a set of L4 Green, then L6 in Green. This gives them all the power they need to survive until L8. I suppose you could take the effort to take the L6 to Blue, and then use these two sets as hand me downs for other alts.

I don't know what the OP is listing as "Level 4" but there is no level 4 weapon that does 113 damage no matter what quality it is.
That damage on a Superior (blue) Staff looks to be lvl VR4, or around VR4. And going from blue to purple it should have gained around 5-10 base damage. It could just be a /reloadui issue he's seeing.

Sorry for the confusing post, but my character and weapons are at the VR 4 level, not level 4. I edited the OP to reflect this.

Just checked the damage level, and it didn't change. Also staff doesn't have any traits, so I don't know if makes any difference.

Orange is legendary, epic is purple.

    to OP:

Yeah this seems bugged. You should always see some kind of scaling in damage and trait value. Unless restro staves do something different.

Improving an item will also increase any traits on the item. Depending on the trait, that can add a lot to the improvement.

This is not the way it is supposed to work. You should put in a support ticket in game.

I really don't have much luck with the support ticket, I get quicker information by posting to the players.

Seems like from day one I been having nothing but problems with this game.

i found some levels increase go up a lot in damage some just a little. i all ways see some jump if i upgrade to legendary ... it maybe small but there should be one at vr levels. Sounds bugged to me. me personally i doubt 1 or 2 weapon will make huge difference in damage, but u also get a larger trait improvements and any set bonus seem to scale with quality too.

I just tried to improve the "Robe of the Necromancer" from fine to superior quality and none of the stats improved; its original condition was:

    Armor: 138
    Rank: VR4
    Value: 49
    Magic: 85
    Infused: 14%
    Quality: Fine

After improving it to superior, the stats stayed the same. My character (VR5)has all of the clothing passives and the clothing level is 50.

    Shouldn't this item be upgradable?

The trait on the item would have increased depending on the traits effect.

I never have this issue with heavy armor, just with the wood and clothing crafts. So I wasted my time in maxing out my character on these two crafts because even though I can craft an item, the item states don't upgrade.

Everything is working now, so I don't know what happen, but the light armor and restoration staffs are upgrading correctly now. Maybe I'd been having a sync issue on something?

Anyway the case is close, thanks everyone for the invaluable information posted here; I still learned some things, so the post wasn't a waste of everyone's time.

    Thanks again.
