Is luminous shards really that much the better morph?

Atm, I respecced my Templar from tank to more of healer/support character. But I still have the blazing spear morph. It's so awsome for ult generation. I'm really have trouble to decide if I want to keep it or go for luminous shards.

The main difference is that luminous shards additionally restores magicka over time. Is that small amount of magicka so much better and more worthwhile than using blazing spear? Blazing spear is still awsome for group support, and does way morw damage and ult gen. Why do so many people go for luminous shards on their healer?

if you want to be a friendly healer and group support, get luminous, no one gives a hoot about your dps in trials. Your job is to heal and throw down solar prison when your name is called :-)

But what if my blazing spear is helping me generate my ult faster to use it more times?

In trials, you should be able to gain plenty of ult simply through healing springs. Honestly, it doesn't make a huge difference. Like you said before, both are good. I'm just going off of what one of my guildies uses in trials and he seems to have no issue with ult gain. You're not gonna be throwing down nova every fight anyway.

IMO luminous shards is clunky and rarely worth using. It's only halfway viable for stamina builds, as the big thing is the 25% instant restore, the resource over time is not that awesome and magicka builds really get only that.

In my personal experience, healers don't want to carry many offensive spells, and they won't usually have much time to spam them either, so I tend to carry those which are highly damaging per cast, which for me is power of the light and blazing spear and that's it.

it is an awesome skill - your tank will kiss your feet for it(as they do have a horrible time in HA to manage resources), and does it really matter if you are doing 350 or 386dps as a healer?

Both are fine. I prefer luminous shards, but it is only beneficial if people are situationally aware and pick the damned thing up.

I'm in doubt, because it can also proc burning light and grants tons of ultimate and I think the tiny magicka regen is neglible.

Luminous Shards is much better in trials because Templars aren't DPS in competitive trials. They aren't tanks either. They are healers.

I made the switch to Luminous Spear a while back. I don't miss the ultimate generation, I still get to drop a sun on somebody once a fight (especially with Grand Healing critting so often). Plus now I get to throw spears at the casters and let them burn that much harder. Tanks love it, too.

It even works as a kind of "stand here" marker for PUGs.

The only scenario where I miss Blazing Spear is soloing. Enemies that aren't immune to the stun become utterly trivial. Resto heavy > Blazing Spear, repeat until dead.

Actually with blazing spear you have 7 chances to proc 250 damage, plus with your insainly high spell crit of healer build they will crit for more damage and gain you lots of ult. And its aoe so in perfect world its hitting 6 making it 35 chances if tank can keep them there.
in PvP I use blazing spear, blazing shield and puncturing sweep. The proc damage is actually HIGHER then the damage of any single one over a long period of keeping track of damage. That's why addons are good, try paying attention to what is actually going on.

If you use blazing spear and radient aura your tank already loves you. Personally I think b spear is miles better except maybe in 4 man dungeons.

    Amen.

I was in a group the other day where I was constantly throwing spears while healing and after the second boss in the dungeon had to remind the group, "feel free to pick up the spear for stamina regen. That's why I'm throwing them."

The response was hilarious, to me.

    "... oh."
