Templar: Power of the Light Changes

The changes made to this skill have made it very clunky to use in trials. If Power of the Light is recast before it explodes, there is no explosion at all. It essentially cancels the Power of the Light and reapplies it.

Was there no way to fix the stacking of Power of the Light without making a recast cancel the damage entirely? It just makes DPSing as a Templar even more limited. I saw no one anywhere ever complaining about Power of the Light, so I am curious as to what motivated the change?

There should be no way for a skill that takes 1.5 seconds to cast and then another 7.2 seconds to do damage, to do no damage at all. The power bonus granted by the skill shouldn't stack, but the damage should always occur.

Power of the light should be instant cast in my view. It does no damage, and in fact, while you're channeling that garbage you're NOT doing damage. So your team makes up for the fact that you did no damage during your cast, then it gives a little burst after. Net effect = Garbage. This is one skill that needs a fix. Either give it a sunfire DoT or make it instant I say.

Since Purifying light has no point, and the Dawn's Wrath Tree overall is absolutely terrible, something needs done with this spell.

It is a non-scaling wreck that caps too easily and its cast time, while OK in certain PVP situations, literally destroys the spell in PVE, aside from the fact that only one templar at a time can have the debuff on any single target.

Dark Flare suffers a similar issue: It doesn't hit hard enough for its cast time. Especially considering other instant applications of the healing debuff.

If the issue is that Templars can heal without a resto staff equipped and that is why they have to suffer such absolutely garbage mechanics in a ranged DPS build, then work a healing reduction into the passives for DPS when you have DPS abilities slotted.

But is that honestly an issue? Is it really? Grand Healing and Cycle of Life provide a big enough boon as it is, don't they, that the ability to heal without a resto staff equipped isn't some massive advantage?

Listen, as I've gone through leveling my Templar and playing it in Veteran Dungeons as all three roles, I've come to realize a few things:

    1) The Aedric Spear tree has two completely dead skills:

Focused Charge has an ICD attached to it and the risk of bugging yourself into not being able to do anything (I've died to this while tanking multiple times, where you stand there with the spear and your entire hotbar is greyed out) that it outweighs any benefit of the spell entirely.

Piercing Javelin doesn't work as reliable CC, and Aurora Javelin isn't worth the magicka for the amount of damage it does. Binding is a joke. It's worse than Focused Charge and that's saying something.

So 2/5 Aedric Abilities suck. They have no application outside of a new player mistakenly wasting skill points on bugged and bad abilities.

    2) Dawn's Wrath is the real doozy though.

Nova is one of the most expensive Ultimates in the game and since support is worthless in ESO, does absolutely putrid damage for the cost. There is no time ever that you shouldn't be using Bat Swarm or Meteor instead of it in AoE and Soul Strike in Single target considering how much more damage all three do instead of the cost. Bat Swarm's healing turns you unkillable more than the 30% damage reduction. Meteor's CC is miles ahead of Solar Disturbance's snare.

Sun Fire and its true Single Target DPS Morph, Vampire's Bane, don't hit hard enough or last long enough to really be worth the magicka that the spell costs to maintain.

DoTs may be a good answer for a class perceived to be too powerful if it can deal solid sustained and heal without a resto staff......they would also work well with the Resto Staff a caster DPS Templar would work well with Single Target.........but abilities like this don't hit hard enough.

Solar Flare has its DPS cut into by a cast time and a debuff that is eaten by other player abilities.........Solar Barrage can't surpass Impulse spam for the magicka cost. It does trash damage and kills the magicka pool of weapon-based players.......who have other better AoEs anyway that actually scale off their build.

Eclipse doesn't work 75% of the time. And in PVP, is negated by CC break. There is simply never any point to take this spell over the reliable Absorb Magic that exists in sword and shield.

And then we get to Blinding Light which takes the problems of Solar Flare and amplifies them by eating damage to deal a little extra damage that is capped to not make the spell over powered.

So with this said: Was there ever even an iota of a thought that people may want to play a Templar and deal damage competitive with other classes?

Or tank on a level equivalent with the other three classes that all have much better CC?

This is more of a thread for a specific mechanic issue associated with a change that was made in the latest patch not a overhaul this list of abilities and buff Templar type thread.

In this thread I am not asking for anything more than that they look at what they did to Power of the Light in 1.4 because it makes an already questionable even skill less reliable.
