Kill the Night Terror - another OP boss

In Vaermina's Gambit, the final boss is to 'Kill the Night Terror'.

Apparently all you have to do is kill King Emeric - which looks easy because he goes down in health quite quickly.
BUT - when he gets to about 10% he simply regenerates - every time. I have no idea how to defeat this. Is it a bug? Intended? Some hidden trick?

HELP!

Usually in this kind of situation there is a mechanic you haven't noticed, like Doshia's health globes. I am not familiar with this fight but you sure there isn't another mob healing him? Or floating stuff?

Can't see anything. I searched the chamber while my pet held him off - couldn't find anything useful.

It's possible he's jst got some sort of mega-heal ability at v. low health that you need to interrupt. I didn't notice any animation though.

He's not difficult - you just can't kill him!

There's no trick to this fight. You're just not allowed to kill him before he's done saying everything he's supposed to say (at which point he turns into his real form and you can finish him off).

Okay, is there a strategy to beat his final form? I'm a lvl 24 imperial templar, the quest is still hard to impossible for me. I give it everything I have, but he still manages to kill me. Any help at all would be appreciated. I've tried kiting him around while I heal, but his skeletal minions always catch up to me, as if they know exactly where I'm going to be at any given moment. Help???

I just beat this guy and it didn't seem very hard, just avoid the little red spots on the ground. I didn't really notice the skeletons that he summoned. I did notice that he did not take as much damage as I am used to dishing out, in other words it took me longer to kill him.

But over all he didn't really seem that difficult. Oh, I beet him as a lvl 24 Nightblade with a two handed sword.

He has four manifestations, king emeric, sir Hughes, hosni something or other and then the final boss, each one gets progressively harder, I killed the first two by dodging around and using my bow, just don't let them back you into a corner or you are dead, the third I got to half health straight away using my ultimate, with the fourth you can one shot the skeletons if they get in your way, they're not especially tough.

Also, the first three have a dash attack and when you dodge they will often dash straight into a wall which stuns them so you can get in a bit of damage on them there too. If you lose too much health you can give yourself a break by running out of the door and round the outer corridor and back in. I'm lvl 22 NB, I managed it but only after I died several times :)

I am unaware what you are doing wrong there when I found it being easy as under-leveled tank and still was able to out DPS his sustain. But wait till you get to 35 and higher level bosses, there are few way nastier than this.

All of these solo encounters are very build specific.
If you happen to get lucky, you are wearing the right gear first time. If not, you might have to respec just to get past one particular 'boss'. It's particularly bad for ranged single-target DPS classes. Mostly you are stuck in a small space with multiple melee enemies in your face.

It's not a very good game design. I'm afraid the only thing you can do is either change your build for the fight or simply wait until you are seriously over level so you can go in and one-shot the b@^%$^£ !

If you're just asking for advice, you shouldn't use a title like that; it sounds like you want it nerfed.

@Censorious , you should check out this thread if you haven't already, and maybe you shouldn't assume something is badly designed because you have trouble with it.

Nerf is the wrong word. They need reworking so that they can be completed without major changes to builds.

I have no problem with the game generally, I'm just finding it irritating that I have to keep making adjustments that don't suit my PvP playstyle build.

Most encounters of this type are heavily biased on favour of melee builds. That is bad design.

If you are having trouble with the last stage, try using more basic attacks and save mana/stam for 'oh-crap' moments. Though, you probably won't have any trouble because basic attacks seem to do more damage than abilities.

Doing my fancy NB moves, popping pots when low, he whipped my butt four times. Then, I read posts here saying he's easy, so I tried just basic attacks and used a leech-health ability once. He went down in what seemed like less than a minute. Seems like he has a high resistance to everything but basic attacks.

The first time I fought this it glitched and I had stage 3 chasing me around while he had no health. Hitting him did nothing but the door was usable and I escaped. But for the record, there is a bug where he's unkillable. I think I just got him stuck between phases somehow.

The whole class-balance vs sucking argument is getting old. Both sides are right sometimes. In this case, the problem is getting too attached to your playstyle.

If you have trouble, it might not be a class issue, but that you have played one way so much that you got stuck playing that way, maybe thinking it could beat anything that wasn't unfair. Then a boss like this makes you think he's impossible to beat, but really he's kind of a *** cat.

Then you go online and people say it's too easy and therefore you must just suck. Really you just need to be okay with death, and experiment when you get stuck. Get outside your box when necessary.

I killed him as a Rank 2 NB, so he doesn't get any harder, it seems.

Just wanted to add that I had shock enchant on both daggers. Not sure if that was helping, but it seems worth mentioning.

Had some issues with the 3rd incarnation as I was saving up my ultimate but that was a mistake and I died 3 times before finishing him off. The final incarnation was very easy and only took a few seconds to kill (level 21 DW NB).

Once you have the mechanics of the fight down its not too bad. The first 3 incarnations are pretty straight forward. Use knock downs, knock backs, stuns, and rooting attacks to gain the upper hand then use ranged or melee (depending on build) to take down their health. Once they go into regen mode - back away as they will stun you if you are too close when they reincarnate.

The final boss is a kiting fight. Ignore the skell adds but be sure to avoid the aoe circles and the boss's cone attack (also shown in red). You can kite him around pillars, out the door and down the hall etc.

Confirmed what @Jin says above. I wasted a lot of time using NB abilities on the Skeleton Boss, died several times. Read this thread, used only light and heavy attacks and he went down fast.

I may well be wrong, but he seems to have five forms, not four: King Emeric, Sir Hughes, Hosni Whatchamacallit, and General Godrun (the Orc), and then the large skeletal form, the Night Terror. (That was Vaermina's lover? No wonder she's so spiteful....) The last one actually pinned me against the wall and I thought I was done for, but I was playing as a Level 23 sorcerer and popped up a Storm Atronach on him, and he was so busy with my clannfear, Twilight Matriarch, and Storm Atronach that he never got around to killing me before he was dead himself.

(Often, the sorcerer's ability to command two and occasionally three other beings seems to confer a massive advantage over other classes in that it splits up attackers and confuses enemies, who are sometimes almost as ADD as the dragons in Skyrim. I can recall a number of occasions when my health was running low but my attacker made the fatal mistake of switching targets away from me because the clannfear had bitten him in the butt or something like that.)

You know, ZOS's already fixed the banker. She only says the first phrase now and doesn't continue to talk about borrowers and lenders... huge relief! :grinning:

The fifth form, the Night Terror, sometimes gets bugged and will not die despite health points at zero. I finally threw my ultimate to draw aggro and exited the palace (!). When i re-entered, had to start the whole sequence over but the Terror was no longer immortal and went down fairly easily.
