Why are Night Blades the only class without a "defensive cool down"?

Shadow Cloak + Shadow Barrier passive for maxed out spell resist/armor? maybe-ish... kinda a defensive cooldown? not really a damage absorption shield tho...

I put cloak in a category of class defining skills. Skills like Streak and Dragons Blood. Plus cloak doesn't work. We wont even go there for now though.

because agony was so OP that they had no room for a shield or a self heal
Banned for Naming and Shaming exploiters. Great ideology ZOS.

As much as we're dragging in back up, people posting here are right, if cloak worked this wouldn't matter.

Defence? We don't need no stinking defence!
Ilol I wish we had something. 1vs1 against a dk I just try to run away now. It kinda sucks just waiting to find someone not paying attention to make a kill. Fun sometimes tho but id like to at least feel like I can go toe to toe against all classes. Imagine arenas? It would just be dks fighting other dks.

I would like it, if they would adapt the vanish skill from WoW in ESO for our Dark cloak. Maybe than it will finally not be bugged like the last 4 month.

    WoW Vanish:
Allows you to vanish from sight, entering an improved stealth mode for 3 sec. For the first 3 sec after vanishing, damage and harmful effects received will not break stealth. Also breaks movement impairing effects.

    ESO Dark Cloak:
Allows you to vanish from sight, entering an improved stealth mode for 2.5 sec. Damage and harmful effects received will not break stealth. Removes 1/2/3/4 Dots or Debuffs.

I'm not sure if that;s true. Sorc. also has BE, DKs also have Dragons Blood, Temps have all sorts of heals. Even when cloak is fixed NBs will still be lacking/missing.

Let's not forget that absolutely anyone in the game can:
    a) Become invisible.
    b) See us when we are invisible.

I haven't found recipes for potions or skill points that would let us use blazing shield, igneous shield, hardening ward, BE, dragon blood, or that would not let others use them if we drank those potions next to them or just have skills toggled.

Well the thing i like about my nightblade the most is vanish+supriseattack= stun. So maybe that's what's defining them or something..?
Anyways, NBs are lacking a survivability tool against people with magelight, plain and simple.

Yeah, I would love that too. However, playing a NB the way I see him - as a physical-damage dealer - you can't use this combo more than once. You do your ambush, go invisible and sometimes don't even have magicka to use your veiled strike. Even if you do this time - that's it. The fight is over for you, you become a free frag if you didn't manage to kill with this combo. And most likely you won't, because everyone can diminish or outheal that damage easily.

Nightblade is the assassin class in Elder Scrolls Online. He uses the advantages of shadow and night to perform sudden attacks and deal a lot of damage from stealth. Hidden attacks are always unexpected and each attack from stealth deals extra damage and stuns the target. They are friends of the night and like to use magic to weaken their enemies.

I have to say, best way for myself to Melee as Nightblade is to go the way of the Mageblade. Equip 2 Swords for the 5% Bonus DMG from DW passive Twin Blade & Blunt, as well as the 6% more WeaponDMG from offhand to increase WhiteDMG. Skills used: only from our class

    1. Ambush (Ranged Stealth Attack against ML user and 36% DMG Buff to next ATK)
    2. Surprise Attack (Main DMG & 4 sec. Stun out of stealth)
    3. Funnel Health (Ranged DMG & ~130 Heal/2sec.)
    4. Dark Cloak (Stealth..if lucky :( )
    5. Siphoning Strikes (Obvious, give away a little DMG for great Magicka/Stamina Regen)
    6. Soul Tether (Awesome Ultimate, 4.5 Sec Stun, ~120 Heal/s, nice AOE DMG)

With Funnel Health and Soul Tether you get a really nice combat heal of ~370HP/2sec, and build up pressure on your enemy with the Tether Stun, forcing him to Break free or take the DMG.

But well, for myself, I don't care if my attacks consum Stamina or Magicka. I just want to play a Dual Wield Assassin, and with my setup, together with Night Silence & Torug's Pact I can do that more than good. ;)

    Quoting a description from a fan-site?
Here is your official description. Not a word about magic and class abilities scaling from magicka and being used only in magicka-based builds.
Nightblades are adventurers and opportunists with a gift for getting in and out of trouble. Relying variously on stealth, blades, and speed, Nightblades thrive on conflict and misfortune, trusting to their luck and cunning to survive.

p.s. Your build.. How do you even have magicka to use your skills? Are you wearing light armor and DW is only for weapon-attacks passives? ( you don't deal much damage with them).

p.p.s. That's what I would like to play, too. Use A LOT of my class skills because hey it's my class, but be in medium armor +phys. weapons and of course, expect to dps good with them.

Ofc. it is LA that I wear. Even though LA has the best looking Assassin Style Armors in this game.
DW is for the 5% overall DMG Bonus (Yeah I could get +10% from Resto Staff), the access to a 4th passive from my two Armor Sets, 2 different weapon enchants, as well as animation cancelling with Light Attacks and Surprise Attack.
I have to say, that I only play Solo PvE and all PvP with this build. In Dungeons, I play SnB Tank, cause its more fun than the DPS role.

I like two daggers myself, in 5 LA and two daggers with the precise trait on them I have a 40% crit chance, when Shadowy Disguise is used I have a 140% chance to crit so at that point no amount of Impenetrable will stop them from being crit.

People forget that Impenetrable can still effect Shadowy Disguise, with two daggers no amount on Impenetrable will stop me from getting a critical.

Probably should be titled "only class without a shield" .
    • I would say Cloak is our best defensive against burst/sustained damage, if it worked in all situations.
    • There is also blur which I like to use but would never rely on to save my life.
    • Aspect of Terror is also a good defensive ability and gives us the one unique blocking counter. (unless the enemy knows how to bypass it and keep up their bracing buff during fear)
    • Shades is also a good defensive item for dropping enemy damage by 15% (doesn't stack if you use the two shade morph)
    • Veil of blades ultimate is a really good defensive ability and arguably in the game since it provides 60% damage mitigation. Granted it has drawbacks such as being stationary.

If we were to pretend that cloak worked, it needs to not be able to be countered from magelight and detection potions. Light armor casters are not taking magelight to counter the NB cloak, they are taking it for 20% crit. It should still reveal sneaking targets.

As for detection potions, one of the cheaper two plant potions (Cornflower, Wormwood) in the game should not negate cloak for 10-13 seconds. Sneak yes but not cloak. A NB would then be required to maintain cloak for 10 seconds which is difficult to do if wearing medium armor with out a Magicka potion. While in cloak, a NB would still be susceptible to AOE, stuns and snares such as talons, bombard, encase, streak and blazing spear.

If a cheap potion can counter an expensive magicka-based ability then we should be able to make a potion with Blessed Thistle and Water Hyacinth that causes all shields break instantly and bolt escape is grounded (pun intended) for 10-13 seconds within 28 meters of the potion user. As Nightblades spam cloak and it fails, it would be nice to see the other classes spam shields and have them fail wasting valuable resources because I used a potion.

    Two daggers are nice, too.
But I like Dark Cloak more than Shadowy Disguise, even though it is bugged like hell. There for I'm only at 26% Weapon Crit with Daggers, means I won't crit anything with 3 Armor pieces that has Impen. on it.
I used Sharpend on both swords for 10% more Spellpenetration.

Actually that's not a bad idea either, I could run two swords with +5% damage from Twin Blade and Blunt with 10% penetration and made from the Torug’s Pact set for another 7 spell damage and keep all my armour Seducers/Light of Cyrodiil. (I can sit around 2450 magicka with NB passives).

I'd managed around 40% crit with two medium, two daggers from the Hundings set and the precise trait.

Ah okay. Well I`m using Night Silence and Torug`s Pact. I just can`t play without the 60% Bonus in stealth and I don`t want to go FOTM Vamp.

Even with my Stamina Build I use Night Silence, just love it as stealthy Guy.
