I'm at a Loss? Please help me understand?

The Dual Wield attack "Hidden Blade Morphs" see to be bugged or I am missing something, my problem is "Heated Blades" seems to crit a lot harder coming from sneak then "Ember Explosion" even though "Ember Explosion,s" tool tip reads a much higher damage number, does ranged attacks have a lower crit value then attacks that are 10 yards or less?

    Not sure I follow. Heated blades and ember explosion are morphs of the skill names Sparks. Are you meaning the morphs of Hidden Blade instead?

    Yes the morphs, I tried both and "Heated Blades" does far more crit damage coming out of sneak the "Ember Explosion" but the tool tip says that Ember Explosion should do more damage, I am thinking that in this game crit damage is lower on ranged attacks.

    You seem to be indeed talking about hidden blade and it's morphs as the first poster thought, but the names you're giving for the morphs are incorrect. The morphs for hidden blade are called 'Flying Blade' and 'Shrouded Daggers'.

    'Heated Blades' and 'Ember Explosion' are morphs of a different ability: Sparks. As the first poster mentioned.

    But back to the issue, the reason 'Shrouded Daggers' does more crit damage coming out of sneak than 'Flying Blade', is that melee abilities have a higher sneak damage multiplier than ranged abilities.

    I'm not sure what the exact range cutoff to attain this value is, we can assume at least 10m though if 'Shrouded Daggers' has a 10m range as you mentioned :)

    On a side note, keep in mind that against other players (PvPing in Cyrodiil) these damage multipliers behave much differently, and are weaker versions than you would get on npc enemies.

    Hope that dispels some of your confusion.

    EDIT: Just did a little bit of testing and napkin math, on regular pve mobs melee abilities get around a 3.5x damage multiplier and guaranteed crit from stealth, ranged is getting more like a 1.75x multiplier.

    Although because of longshots it was a bit harder to test, I would say ranged abilities that qualify for a from stealth bonus get anywhere from a 1.5x to a 1.75x multiplier. I would do some testing for PvP but I have no cross-faction buddies who would be willing ;)
