Armor Dyes (1.3.0)

Been working with the dye station on PTS...

1) Why must the customized armor be bound to our account?

There is a thriving economy around craft skills for those who do not wish to invest time or skill points in crafting. For example, I craft, upgrade and enchant entire sets of armor and weapons. In some cases, these are constructed using a blend of specific craft sets. It takes a considerable amount of time and detail to get right (avg. 4hrs.) and there are many who would rather pay 20K gold and use that time playing.

2) Why do we have to unlock colors? The game has so many other more significant issues and even for me, this was over complicated. I just don't want to look stupid during levels 1-50 (as does most armors to date) and when my character becomes veteran, I just want it to have cool armor. Did we really need the game to penalize us with ugly armor until we unlock achievements? Even more confusing, is that some of the best colors are tied directly to AvA related achievements. It would be good to understand the bigger plan here as this approach diverts in an extreme way from the other crafting skill lines.

---

I am keeping this all in perspective of course. In spite of the LSD trip of laggy combat in PVP and ultra-neglected character styles (non-magicka)... I still enjoy the game very much and can only imagine the horrors of trying to keep such a wild and diverse customer base pleased.

Thanks

I couldn't of stated this better if I tried! I spend so much time on crafting not only gear for myself but for others also and to be what I can only think of as punished for what already seems like a great deal of effort I have already put into the research.

There is nothing complicated here. There are many colors to choose from, with many variations. No, maybe you can't have a specific red because it is reserved for the Emperor Achievement, but so? There is plenty of other red to choose from, and at very close 'tint'. Ebonheart Pact Red for instance. (just using Red as an example) Alot of the colors you may want are easily achieved.
A color that reflects a harder to get achievement, so what? Sounds rewarding to me....

And concerning the crafting point, this in NO WAY will effect crafting. People can put there own colors to your crafted armor. Why on earth would you want to pigeon hole yourself into selling a specific color crafted item versus the reg crafted item that can be colored by the purchaser? Doesn't putting a color on your crafted item narrow your market? So who cares if once you color its bound, under this logic.

Ultimately, your complaints center around you wanting to be and look however you want without any earning....this is what in fact makes no sense, imo.

I agree with Fissh. You kinda sound like you just want it all for nothing. What this game needs right now is something to work for. Having to earn those harder achievements will give many players something to work towards that are in their person favor.

All for nothing? We're still paying a sub fee, aren't we?

And some of us don't have a whole lot of free time to work towards those harder achievements but were really, really looking forward to being able to use the more decent colored dyes, as I'm hearing at this point in time that the "Freebie" dyes are a load of horse poo.

"Hearing"? So you don't even know then, correct?

How about this....since you pay a subscription fee....ZoS just gives you 4 maxed leveled classes with all the skill points in game, that way, you can pay to win everything you do....
What about those of us that DO want to earn something, whether it be a specific color or an achievement or whatever? Again, there are toooonnnnnssssss of colors, and the ones you may be looking for can probably be easily achieved. You should have a looksie before you complainsie. They provide you with options if you don't want to earn anything, but you want it ALL? Then what is left to earn?
Varsity uniforms are better then Junior Varsity still in the schools yes? That is for a reason. You earn your colors(letters), not buy them.
Its a simple concept, not trivial at all. This want, want, want, under the guise of "I pay money" seems frivolous...yeah?

Yeah, hearing or reading, whichever you prefer. From someone that was on the PTS earlier today and said they look like puke.

I'm so glad you have the free time to earn those achievements. Go you.

So because we're paying a sub fee that means we should get everything for nothing? Okay, guess we should all start at VR12 and have all the best gear because we're all paying. Just because there's a sub fee, that doesn't mean everything in the game needs to be handed to you. You don't have to pay real money to get these dyes like you do in other F2P or B2P MMOs.

Sorry, but I am going to have to disagree. I am very happy you have to earn the colors.

Where did the OP say she wanted 'everything for nothing'? Where did she say she wanted 'everything handed to her'?

Some people in this thread using so much hyperbole just need to stop.

She didn't say she wanted 'everything for nothing'. She didn't say they should all be handed to her for free. One poster even made up some lame 'example' where each sub gets 4 maxxed-level characters, etc. LOLOLOL. Come on, people... Don't exaggerate to try to sell your point - it just makes you look dumb, in addition to making you look like your comprehension skills are negligible.

The point is, dyes are COSMETIC, and nothing more. Tying them to achievements is -stupid-, plain and simple. It will be like GW - where the asspuke-colors are available to all, but the 'good' colors require a metric ton of time, or money.

Lame. I had hoped Zeni would go in a different direction than copying GW2, but alas, we can't all get what we want... even if that doesn't mean 'we want everything for free'.

Of course better colors are going to be reserved for people who are farther along in the game, there still has to be a way to differentiate between low and high level players (remember, the armor models are pretty much the same, only the color is different). I can understand low level players being frustrated, but it's something to work for. I'm VR12 and will have quite a few, but look forward to working for the even rarer ones that I don't have.

They could have made dyes drop and the good colors really rare. That would have been way worse. WTS black dye 50K! I'm pretty happy about how they are doing it. There's no way they would have just given us all the colors for nothing, they have to make a game out of it to keep us busy.

I dont know this actually got my friends interested in doing achievements with me and we have been having a blast. I think its working as intended.

A lot of people have been saying this game is lacking in the distraction content/rewards department. I think this is a cool way of keeping people busy without overly inflating gear and "item levels"

I like that some colors will have at least some prestige to them and that is pretty awesome :)

I'm a pretty busy woman. I have two kids and a full time job - just because you and I have busy lives doesn't mean we shouldn't have to earn things in our video games. Earning rewards is part of the fun. So what if we get it a little slower than others? it will still be there for us and we will feel the same satisfaction for having done so. We aren't robbed of anything and shouldn't take distraction content away from those that do have a lot of free time.

It is important to keep in mind the larger spectrum when wanting changes in an MMO.

Motifs are also COSMETIC and nothing more.. I am guessing you view that as being "-stupid-, plain and simple" as well?

Anyways, I am not attempting to bash you by all means, but.. The way they have it presented now brings much more value to the game. They need many more "rewards" such as this in the game and this here is heading in the right direction.

This is what I keep thinking. We have to keep in mind that there are only like 4 separate sets per racial style - the rest is just colour differentiation. If everyone was just given all colours right off the bat, you could potentially see someone at level 36 look identical to someone at rank V12. Which shouldn't be, really. Players should be able to show off and look impressive at V12, not match the lvl 36 beside them.

You also have to keep in mind that it's not like all gear is gonna be 'dull and boring' up till you get the higher achievements. Unless they're totally recolouring all the gear in the next patch (with the intent to make everything dull and boring by default), you'll still have the colours the pieces were shipped with. The dye is just a bonus on top of that. Every piece of gear isn't going to be tan tan tan because that's the only thing you've unlocked.

Personally I don't mind how they're doing it, it's getting me to get some more achievements under my belt and will give players more to do. From the sound of it they're doing it smartly too, by offering a few different avenues to attain essentially the same colour.

The thing is, it won't be a little slower for me. I'll be lucky if I see that purple color before the year is out. That doesn't even remotely sound like fun to me, it sounds like a carrot being dangled in front of me that I can't have.

How's that "I can't" attitude working out for you? Put in the time and it will be even more rewarding when you achieve that feat of unlocking your favorite dye. Which dye is it in particular? Is it a craft related achievement? If it is then let me know. I'll try to help you out.

Starting at 1:37. (Found the original version lol carry on)
